tigerdogI upgraded Xubuntu from 19.04 to 19.10.  Pulseaudio cannot remember which output device to use.  When the system starts, it defaults to HDMI output and I change to my audio card.  When the system is restarted, or just resumed after sleep, it's back to HDMI.  How do I make the selection stick?  This did not happen with previous versions00:41

xubuntu2wformerly the layout was valid for all the windows...10:48
diogenes_xubuntu2w, right click on keyboard panel plugin > properties set it to global.10:50
xubuntu2wthanks, I will try10:50

Noboru55diogenes_ hey, guess what?13:01
diogenes_Noboru55, Sponge Bob is real?13:01
Noboru55diogenes_ lol, no... the xubuntu 19.10 worked but not enlightweight here13:04
Noboru55had to back to 18.1013:04
diogenes_Noboru55, what is not enlighweight?13:04
Noboru55all .. since the pendrive with xubuntu 19.10 till after install13:05
Noboru55the thunar was a little lag... and do not how to explain because my awful english13:06
Noboru55but the 18.10 works better to me13:06
Noboru55the teme in live usb xubuntu 19.10 is great, with nice icons... but after install it change to other thing a little ugly, the thunar shows yellow directories and... the desktop icon is weird... well.. 18.10 is ok to me13:07
diogenes_Noboru55, hehe all of that is easy fixable but ok, if 18.04 works fine then all is well.13:08
Noboru55diogenes_ yes, the theme is fixable but i do not know why the 18.04 works better,  and its lts13:10
Noboru55but it was good to take a look in 19.1013:10
diogenes_Noboru55, hopefullt the next stable LTS will work even better.13:11
Noboru55yes, i will wait ... if i dont get a macbook before13:11
diogenes_:(13:11
brainwashhow are the desktop icons weird?13:11
Noboru55brainwash the live usb is something like black and stylish13:12
Noboru55after install it turns not the same13:12
brainwasha screenshot or photo would help13:12
diogenes_Noboru55, most likely it re-used your configs from the previous installation.13:12
diogenes_if you preserved /home.13:12
brainwashregarding the yellow directory icons, it's a change in the icon theme13:13
diogenes_and also that could be the reason of a laggy experience too.13:13
Noboru55maybe13:13
Noboru55anyway i will not install again the 19.10... for while... maybe later13:14
Noboru55so i can make some changes to see how it works13:15

netuserhi19:08
netuserwhat is the difference of lubuntu an xubuntu19:08
geniiLubuntu bases their desktop on the graphical system of LXDE, Xubuntu uses XFCE19:09
netuseroh thanks19:09
netuseri think lubuntu is like windows xp,sorry for my english19:10
geniiThere's an older, but still relevant comparison and explanation of the main differences here http://mygeekopinions.blogspot.com/2011/08/lxde-vs-xfce.html19:11
Noboru55Hello everybody, is some configuration for games in Xubuntu 18.04? When i run diablo 2 via playonlinux all my desktop get a different colour, like high contrast...19:44
Noboru55if i close the game  the system back to normal19:44
diogenes_Noboru55, try with predefined resolution19:45
brainwashcolor depth is reduced19:46
Noboru55brainwash is there way to fix it? because the game get a color reduced too19:46
Noboru55diogenes_ i did not do any change.. there is no option to change it in graphics wine configuration19:47
brainwashyou can configure wine to run an application in a virtual desktop19:47
brainwashbut not sure if that fixes the problem19:47
Noboru55i see19:48
Noboru55thank u, i will try something.. did not find nothing about it on google..19:48
brainwashthat is surprising19:49
brainwashI'd think that you would find several search entries for this problem19:49
diogenes_a similar thing hapened to me on quake 3 so i went to quake settings color and switched to 32bit color.19:50
Noboru55diogenes_ i made some changes inside diablo 2 too.. and its better but now perfect19:50
Noboru55brainwash only windows similar problems19:50
brainwashNoboru55: does it happen with windowed mode too?19:54
Noboru55brainwash yes, and in full screen too19:56
Noboru55brainwash in the opening of the game its ok... when i click to get the options... so the color change like i got i 256 color or something around it19:57
brainwashpersonally, I would test it on another system also20:01
brainwashother than that, you should check the winehq and/or playonlinux channel20:02
Noboru55ah.. good idea.. im going to do it20:02
Noboru55thank you20:02
Noboru55Hello, the Xubuntu is almost perfect, but i get a black screen every time i try to lock the screen20:24
Noboru55and only the power button works when i lock the screen20:24
Noboru55someone knows how to solve it?20:25
Noboru55diogenes_ can you try to lock your screen to see if you can back to the desktop20:25
Noboru55?20:25
buttros_Hello everyone! Does Evolution Office Suite plays nice with Xubuntu? Or it looks out of place in xfce?20:30
Noboru55LOLLLLLL20:39
Noboru55the Lock screen is not locking the screen.. i get i black screen and nothing works... so i tried ctrl+alt+1  an for my surprise i saw the tty120:40
Noboru55so i treid ctrl+alt+7   and i saw a message.20:40
Noboru55The screen is locked, you will be redirect in few seconds to the password screen20:41
Noboru55it was really funny... but everytime the screen is locked i will need to do it?20:41
Noboru55i mean change ttyX to tty7 ?20:41
Noboru55i wanted something like... screensaver  if possible20:41
diogenes_Noboru55, my lockscreen works flawlessly with xfce4-screensaver.20:50
Noboru55diogenes_ ok, thank you..20:51
diogenes_np20:51
Noboru55diogenes_ can you set a picture like screensaver?20:53
Noboru55i see no option to do it, only the power management and the desktop wallpaper...20:53
diogenes_Noboru55, i haven't dig into that because xfce4-scrensaver is a fairly recent piece of software to as of right now it might lack some customization options but i suppose it's definitely possible to set up any background for the screensave if you mess with the code.20:56
Noboru55diogenes_ i do not find this xfce-screensaver  i will try install xscreensaver20:59
diogenes_Noboru55, ah i forgot yo are on 18.04 and it's introduced with the newest 19.1o and xfce 4.14.21:00
Noboru55diogenes_ oh...21:00
Noboru55let me try something here21:01
Noboru55diogenes_ worked, the xscreensaver, i guess the xubuntu 18.04 doesn't have some screensaver software21:13
Noboru55diogenes_ i will install again the 19.10 to make some changes and see how it works in games too...21:14
diogenes_Noboru55, up until xfce 4.14, xfce had no screensaver/screenlocker whatsoever, all what distros were using (xscreensaver, light-locker) were 3rd party software, neither developed nor maintained by xfce, the 4.14 has officially introduced the xfce4-screensaver (a fork of gnome-screensaver) so now you have a dedicated xfce developed screensaver.21:16
Noboru55great!21:18
Noboru55i need a perfect system to ... to delete the windows of my wife...21:18
Noboru55so.. that's the reason i am doing some tests and being a little.. u know like a newbie here21:19
Noboru55but her laptop is better than mine, 8gb ddr4 intel i521:19
diogenes_and you picked a pretty good distro, xubuntu has always been super reliable to me.21:20
Noboru55i agree... xubuntu is better than any other flavour21:20
diogenes_agreed21:21
Noboru55pendrive ok, going to install it21:22
Noboru55see u in the future21:22
diogenes_good luck21:22
xubuntu82whi all!23:24
xubuntu82wCongrats on Xubuntu 19.10.  It's a pretty clean and modern install.  I installed it on a Dell 7590 XPS 15 OLED and out of the box it was suprisingly complete.23:25
xubuntu82wI had to tweak scaling, synaptics trackpad and OLED brightness but that's to be expected.23:25
xubuntu82wOne question: I have 2x scaling running and it mostly works, but for some reason the default window drag areas and gadget sizes are still 1x scaling.  Same for cursors.  It makes it hard to resize windows and click gadgets.  For some reason Chrome window and gadget sizing is fine.23:27
xubuntu82wAlso by default scaling isn't working on the display manager, but after logging in and having the screen lock the scaling in the login box is correct.23:28
brainwashxubuntu82w: you need to change the window manager theme23:30
brainwashthere is a hidpi variant of the Default theme23:31
xubuntu82wok let me try that23:31
brainwashXfce Settings > Window Manager23:31
xubuntu82wah default-xhdpi?23:31
brainwashyes23:32
xubuntu82wexcellent it works23:32
brainwashcursor size can be changed via the Appearance settings dialog23:32
xubuntu82wthere are other hidpi themes i assume23:32
brainwashoh wait. Mouse and Touchpad23:33
xubuntu82wi fixed touchpad23:33
xubuntu82wthat was some sort of driver conflict23:33
brainwashbut you wanted to adjust the cursor size23:33
brainwashthat can be done via the Mouse and Touchpad settings dialog23:33
xubuntu82wyes.   the cursors are 1x23:33
xubuntu82wok i'll check that23:34
brainwashregarding other hidpi wm themes, I'm not aware of other themes offering these variants (yet)23:34
xubuntu82wcusor size23:34
xubuntu82wincrease to 48.23:35
xubuntu82wi wish there was something like an install template so that you could set it up and share it.23:36
brainwashyou can do that via xfconf-query23:36
brainwashit's a command-line tool that can change Xfce settings23:37
xubuntu82wok.  i was thinking something more comprehensive that could do driver fixup, but you could do that with a bash script23:37
xubuntu82wok this is strange.  all of chrome is fine except the chrome specific cursors which are 1x :)23:38
brainwasha guide?23:38
xubuntu82wif i point to the desktop the cursor is the right size.  if I point to the chrome window it goes to 1x.  wonder if it needs a restart.23:39
xubuntu82wweird cuz all of the rest of chrome is properly sized23:39
xubuntu82wi really appreciate all the work on this distro.  really clean.23:39
xubuntu82wtried to use Pop!_os, but egads horrible UI23:40
brainwashcould be bug 170287323:41
ubottubug 1702873 in libreoffice (Ubuntu) "[snap] artifacts when using HiDPI display" [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/170287323:41
brainwashwhich was fixed though23:42
xubuntu82wi'll see if it happens in libreoffice23:43
xubuntu82wno it's fine in libreoffice writer23:43
xubuntu82wthe version of chrome i'm running is the deb from google.  let me see if it happens in firefox23:44
brainwashlibreoffice is probably not installed as snap application23:44
xubuntu82wcorrect.23:44
brainwashso.. chrome actually isn't either, or?23:44
brainwashif you installed via deb directly from google23:45
xubuntu46wok this is me in firefox and i'm not seeing the same problem.  must be something wrong with chrome23:46
brainwashmaybe this https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=37615623:47
xubuntu82wright it's just google chrome deb23:47
brainwashreport is from 201423:47
brainwashbut the latest comment is: "How is this still an issue in June of 2019?  It's both Chrome and Chromium."23:47
xubuntu46wwow.  that's a 5 year old bug23:48
xubuntu46wyes agreed23:48
brainwashhard to believe23:48
xubuntu46wnot too hard ;)23:48
xubuntu46wpriorities at google are something like (1) sell user data at highest price without totally being caught ......... (4938943) fix chrome cursor scaling issues on Linux.23:49
xubuntu46wBut xubuntu is shiny23:50
scribe64yes it is23:52
xubuntu46where's so more data.   the cursor scaling issue is also showing up in thunar.  it's the input pointer cursor for input fields.23:53
xubuntu46wnot the blinking insert thing, but the input pointer cursor.23:54
brainwashso, text cursor?23:54
brainwashthe I ?23:54
xubuntu46wit looks like a capital I with the bars above and below23:54
brainwashright23:54
xubuntu46wits fine in firefox, but thunar and chrome have the 1x scaled version23:55
brainwashnormal cursor is fine?23:55
xubuntu46wyou mean the blinky insert position thing?23:55
brainwashmouse cursor23:55
xubuntu46wok yeah sure.  that's fine23:55
brainwashoh well23:55
xubuntu46wunlike in chrome where both cursors are screwed up23:56
brainwashyou did not mention that detail earlier23:56
xubuntu46wsorry23:56
xubuntu46wi wonder what affects just that cursor23:56
xubuntu46wprobably some misc gui resource didn't get updated23:57
brainwasha strange one for sure23:58
xubuntu46wi'm going to logout and see if the login dialog is fixed.23:59
