xubuntu96wI am trying to install Ubuntu on an old Celeron D processor desktop with 512 MB RAM and get an error with Ubuntu 10.4 "Kernel requires a x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. "02:06
xubuntu96wI am considering installing xubuntu now, sice some posts on the internet indicated that xubuntu will be better suited for such an old machine02:07
xubuntu96wCan some one suggest the appropriate version of xubuntu to use?02:08

deadromhi. had xub16.04LTS, then 18.04LTS for years on a Thinkpad T530 with 2 monitors on a docking station. I suspend-to-RAM when machine is not in use. worked fine for ages.16:02
deadromthen replace the T530 with a Dell M4800 mobile workstation, migrated the SSD over and so far it works really good but: when waking up from suspend all sort of things happen with the monitor setup. sometimes 2 mirrors 1, sometimes I lose one monitor, sometimes 1 gets stretched to 3840x1200, and the "config displays" thing pops up16:04
deadromhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/p/msFNSy9QtH/ this script *mostly* sets things back ok, but I think it's an issue with how the docking station powers up. I think the ports are powered up too late so xubunut forgets, then rediscovers the monitors after resume. any idea what to do about that?16:06
brainwashdeadrom: does it happen when screen locking is disabled?16:15
deadrombrainwash: is disabled.16:15
brainwashXfce 4.14 has improved disabled handling, but it's only available in 19.10 or via PPA for 18.0416:16

diogenes_deadrom, you could try to setup monitors with xorg instead of user settings.16:17
deadromdiogenes_: https://xkcd.com/963/16:17
deadrombut good point, I never checked xorg.conf for old cruft from the Thinkpad era...16:18
deadrombrainwash: stable PPA?16:18
brainwashhttps://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/+archive/ubuntu/staging16:19
diogenes_deadrom, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhiLWxJgiAo&list=PL_SzaGshm1xfgTnMtW9A50ff2JokazGZx&index=4&t=0s16:19
brainwashI guess you can call it stable16:19
deadrombrainwash: gonna try16:21
brainwashXfce 4.14 allows you to save and restore display profiles16:21
brainwashbut still, it's not guaranteed that it solves your problem16:21
brainwashand installing 4.14 may bring in new issues too16:21
brainwash(whiles fixing many others obviously)16:23
deadromdiogenes_: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KJzCnXqMJv/  <- that's some old cruft there from my last machine... the 5400M, the display names espacially.16:24
deadrommaybe I go clean up there first16:24
xubuntu76wHi, good afternoon19:44
xubuntu76wIt's ok to use Xubuntu with AMD Ryzen 3 2200g?19:44
tomreynhi xubuntu76w, i don't see why not. you may want a recent kernel, though19:48
geniitomreyn: AFAIK there are still no GPU drivers for it20:14
tomreyngenii: i think DCN1.0 is supported since linux 4.16, but 5.0, 5.2 and 5.4 may have improved upon it.20:28
geniiHm20:29
tomreyni dont have first hand experience though20:30
