altendkyi have a lenovo p1 gen 2 with intel 630 + nvidia T2000 max-q graphics and i'm having trouble getting consistent recognition of a display on the hdmi output.  i am trying with both a tv and a monitor.  any ideas how to get some useful info for debugging this?  the 'switch to external screen' bar pops up consistently when unplugging or plugging in a display but only occasionally is the display available.15:20
user|39766Can you recover an ubuntu machine with a kubuntu install disk?16:02
altendkyuser|39766: recover from what?16:05
user|39766On the login screen it kept saying 'authentication failed16:05
user|39766and wont let me type my password16:06
user|39766tried to reboot, but it spat some sort of mumbo jumbp.16:06
altendkyi'm not really sure exactly what's different but my external display is now tending to work.  i did use the leave>reboot instead of `sudo reboot` so maybe it just needed that once or twice.  though i don't think it's 100% quite yet.  but tending to work is a good start16:31

IrcsomeBot1<avinash512> @Crell, Same. In fact all 19.10 ubuntu family releases had erratic behaviour on my laptop. Sticking with 18.04 LTS as it runs smoothly.19:38

mahavishvarupaHello, does Kubuntu have any of the Canonical data mining / ad malware installed by default?20:36
bpromptmahavishvarupa:  no that I'm aware of, however I'm on 16.04, not sure if 18.04 or 19.10 have added any, however you can just install them I take it from the repositories20:41
mahavishvarupabprompt: the point is that I don't want that stuff on my machine.20:43
bpromptmahavishvarupa:  then I guess you're golden =)20:43
mahavishvarupathanks bprompt20:44
bpromptkinda misread some, I understood some anti-malware... nope, but you meant, data mining as for data reporting or feedback.... that I'm aware of20:45
bpromptbut as I said, I have 16.04, dunno if 18.x or 19.x versions have it20:45
mahavishvarupaDoesn't something in standard Ubuntu send data to Amazon?  I can't recally of the top of my head.20:46
bpromptnot that I know of20:46
bpromptsome installed apps do stuff like that like webbrowsers, but that's a third-party choice20:47
mahavishvarupahttps://www.gnu.org/philosophy/ubuntu-spyware.en.html20:47
daxthat page is extremely out of date20:48
daxthere's still an amazon shortcut on Ubuntu (not Kubuntu)'s launcher, but it's literally just a web shortcut, it doesn't send any data that isn't normal web browsing data20:48
daxthe whole unity amazon search thing's been dead for years20:48
mahavishvarupaOK good.  I ask as  I'm considering moving to Kubuntu.20:49
mahavishvarupawhere do I get a minimal or netinstall iso for Kubuntu?20:56
mahavishvarupaCan't seem to find it anywhere, if it even exists.20:57
bprompthmmmm21:01
bpromptmahavishvarupa:  I don't see one, not for Kubuntu21:03
bprompton the other hand, the iso is just over 1Gb21:04
=== kubuntu is now known as Ur-Overseer
mahavishvarupareally Kubuntu's iso clocked in 2.4GB when I just looked now.  Any way I'm going to use the netinstall and just apt-get install kubuntu-desktop21:05
=== mkv is now known as m4v
bprompt2.4? maybe21:08
bpromptmahavishvarupa:  tis simpler to just get the .iso instead of installing kubuntu-desktop21:08
mahavishvarupabprompt: I'm moving from Arch so doing stuff manually isn't an issue for me.21:14
bpromptmahavishvarupa:  well, chances are, there'll be very few apps from the iso that you won't need, and you remove those, but there are very few, I use Kubuntu, however I don't run Kwin, KDE's window manager, I run LXQT, much faster and flexible, however I do use quite a bit of the kde apps and QT apps21:26
mahavishvarupabprompt: this whole thing is because my usb stick isn't big enough!!21:27
fuzeis it possible to upgrade from 18.04 to 19.10 directly?22:02
fuzeor is it best to go to 19.04 and then 19.1022:03
bpromptfuze:  since 18.04 is LTS and 19.10 isn't, sounds more like a downgrade :P22:04
fuzebprompt: Its just for personal use so i think it would be better. lots of bug fixes22:05
fuzesoftware updater only find 19.0422:06

fuzeI guess its Disco Dingo time22:08
bpromptthought Disco was dead? maybe not, I better get my bellbottom pants out of the closet then22:09

InteloWhich settings in kubuntu hides the password chars visible to on login screen?  I want to hide so no one can even count how many chars of password I have?22:37
geniiIntelo: There's no direct way to do this, but you can simulate this behaviour by editing it's configuration to make the text colour the same as the background of the text entry box22:59
genii..this doesn't prevent someone from highlighting what's in the box however to see how long it is23:00
Intelogenii, ok. thx. which config?\23:31
Intelogenii, and also what about the very initial password that is used to decrypt hdd\23:33
geniiIntelo: For default Breeze theme,/usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/theme.conf file, the line reading color=#1d99f3 change to all white by color=#ffffff23:44
genii..or not23:44
