Does anyone know what this is and how I can remove it? [08:36] It is apt/dpkg saying a reboot is required to complete the update process. [08:37] I'd like to avoid this as a system notification through my desktop GUI [08:37] I read all the `apt` messages when I ran `dist-upgrade`. Is it possible to remove this KDE Daemon? === linux is now known as linux_ === linux_ is now known as linux [10:18] (Photo, 1059x760) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/7PmWVAb8/file_19865.jpg === james is now known as Guest1475 [10:31] Ooh nice. Do you know what component triggers the notification? [10:59] @Schyken, Mostly kernel updates I think, which create the file /var/run/reboot-required [11:08] Hiyas all [11:33] Hi BluesKaj!!! === arjun is now known as Guest62161 === pascal is now known as Guest36867 [13:14] hi [13:15] which one is better Ubuntu default or Kubuntu? === kab0m3 is now known as kab0m [13:17] !poll | user|75491 [13:18] !polls | user|75491 [13:19] hmm anyway we don't do polls here user|75491, it's up to you to make up your own mind about ubuntu and it's flavours === monkle is now known as elknom [13:56] Hello after upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04, I'm receiving "Temporary failure in name resolution" when I ping google.com. WiFi says it is connected, and other devices on the network work. Do you have a suggestion of a resource I could use, or something to try? My Google Fu has not found a working solution yet. [14:08] elknom, open a terminal and run sudo systemctl enable network-manager, then sudo systemctl start network-manager. A reboot might be required. [14:09] Peter crafford was added by: Peter crafford [14:18] BluesKaj: Those commands can be combined into `sudo systemctl enable --now ` [14:18] I have taken these steps, it's still doing the same thing [14:18] elknom: What is the contents of `/etc/resolv.conf`? [14:20] Hmm will be interesting to convey through Android. [14:20] It looks like there are four lines, all commented [14:21] Ty [14:21] That sounds like a problem ;) [14:21] Add `nameserver 8.8.8.8`, or some other resolver. [14:27] DNS should be set in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf [14:30] derEremit was added by: derEremit [14:31] hey, I just upgraded one machine to focal :D … just noticed krunner shortcut changed from alt+space to super+space … is that intentional? [14:35] Okay here is the screenshot of resolve.conf [14:35] resolve.conf https://imgur.com/gallery/dS6M8RJ [14:35] Brr resolved [14:35] * lordievader runs [14:36] elknom: If you are using systemd's resolved, your resolv.conf is not pointing to it. So that is never going to work. [14:37] works here [14:38] Oh, right this defaults to localhost in case of no config. [15:04] Okay I've been through several iterations. Do I need to find the IP of the network router to enter here? [15:06] elknom: Are you using systemd-resolved? (`systemctl status systemd-resolved`) [15:10] Systems status systemd-resolved https://imgur.com/gallery/xxlCcRd [15:11] It looks like that is what it is trying to use [15:24] In that case, instead of `nameserver 8.8.8.8`, add `nameserver 127.0.0.53`. Like it says in the comment. [15:31] When I entered it, ping still fails. When I restart, it overwrites the file and removed it. When I run "systemd-resolve --status", I get "unrecognized option --status" [15:34] I'm not sure where to go from here [15:38] 127.0.0.53 does respond to ping requests [15:40] I get that resolve.conf becomes an output when you use systemd-resolve, instead of a source file [15:41] But don't understand what the issue with systemd is [15:43] Okay I'm running out of time to resolve this for now. I'm going to have to come back to it later. I've read in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI that I should mount ( or at least so I understood ) windows efi partition on /boot/efi however the installtion program does not give me any options to alter efi partition. Telegram supports inline imagery. [20:12] the text you see is replicated from the IRC channel on freenode. As people are on both. reason you see hte names as as those are posts from the IRC room. [20:13] Ah, so so the IRC people can post images? [20:13] that what they would use to [20:19] What I don't know is if messages from telegram are duplicated into the irc room. [20:19] looks like they do [20:23] Not sure if this is a bug or just an "issue" But when you change cursors while they change in general the "total effects" do not stick until you reboot. [20:24] I'll give it a try [20:24] Example. open dolphin and change your cursor. in the title bar you will see the new cursor. But they go into the file section you will see the old cursor. [20:25] @freak_502, Yeah, I can confirm the same behaviour here [20:25] granted after the reboot that is no longer present. [20:26] What about just logging out/back in? [20:26] I would do it right now but I can't end my session 😅 [20:26] never tried that [20:26] brb [20:28] yes looks like logging out and back in works as well === juboxi is now known as jubo2
