(meaning when you don't log in via vnc)? [14:40] cus i have a really old PC with low specs and i was wondering if I can free up the main memory when VNC isn't been utilized for that weekly administrative upkeep [14:40] cus I just imagine that X Window and all that take up ram [14:40] does it? [14:41] explore: vnc is a security risk these days, cant you do your work over ssh? [14:51] can i forward vnc over ssh? [14:52] i remember a long time ago it was easy to setup vnc over ssh [14:52] !vnc | explore yes [14:52] explore yes: VNC is a protocol for remote desktop. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VNCOverSSH describes how to use it securely. It works best over fast connections, otherwise look at !FreeNX [14:52] lotuspsychje: so back to the question of resource utilization [14:52] when i am not using vnc connections, i am hoping that X window and VNC server will just swap to disk and leave the main memory alone [14:52] is that the case? [14:53] or will they gunk up the main memory? === Napsterbater is now known as Guest51688 === Napsterbater_ is now known as Napsterbater
