geniiFoxBook: There is a way to correct it on this guy's run-through of installing Xubuntu on that model https://www.bobjohnson.com/blog/adventures-with-linux-xubuntu-on-a-toughbook-cf18/00:07
CrazyLikeAFoxgenii: Oh thank you, Ill give that a read through (this is my main laptop)00:08
CrazyLikeAFoxmy particular one is a mk5, but stff for the 4 should still apply00:09
geniiIt's fairly comprehensive and well-written, from what I've read of it so far00:09
CrazyLikeAFoxyeah, looks like just the ticket, but it address all my issues00:10
CrazyLikeAFoxother main issue is, I need something to read the old HDD to do a bitwise type copy over to the new larger ssd00:11
CrazyLikeAFoxthen I should be able to use gparted to add a partition into the blank space and fix the mbr if need be00:12

CrazyLikeAFoxOh, I got the usb drive cradle to work, and got the old drive migrated in- sudo dd if=/dev/sdc of=/dev/sda (it took a bit over 2 hours to push 60gb over usb 2.0)03:11
CrazyLikeAFoxHrm, I need to figure out how to get the windows bootloader to invoke xubuntu though03:12
geniiNo, rather you should use GRUB to choose between your installed operating systems. Windows bootloader does not know about any other operating systems except Windows03:51
tomreyni think you can actually convince it to boot another efi boot code such as grub's stub04:40
tomreynfor a multi boot system wihch involves an OS which is notorious for just overwriting things it doesn't know about, going with this systesm's boot loader could actually be an option (if it doesn't loose the boot loader configuration also when it overwrites it)04:42
CrazyLikeAFoxI did find a couple different approaches, but ti looks like the windows vista+7 loader (win7 partition has the boot flag and is the primary OS of the laptop) and no uefi is the ideal case to make it work04:44
CrazyLikeAFoxand that is my current case04:44
CrazyLikeAFoxbut that'll be tomorrow or this weekend04:44

DarkTrickWouldn't it be nice to have a "scroll distance setting" for mouse settings?11:16
DarkTrickIs this something for xubuntu or upstream?11:17
well_laid_lawnit depends on the program11:26
DarkTrickwhich programs are there?12:28
DarkTrickxinput, ... ?12:29
brainwashDarkTrick: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/issues/18512:32
DarkTrickbrainwash: Thank you for the link12:50
DarkTrickIt seems like they are just testing a libinput implementation12:51
DarkTrickI'm not sure if libinput is the right place, but I'll wait and hope12:52
brainwashDarkTrick: there are links to other report too13:00
brainwashreports13:00
brainwashbut I've only read the bare minimum13:00
DarkTrickI have to admit to also skipped the middle parts.13:01
DarkTrickIt seems like a long discussion over the years13:01

xubuntu20wHello, my apologies if this is the wrong channel, feel free to redirect me. I am running Xubuntu Voyager GS, but it doesn't seem very smooth at switching between user profiles. Things work great for the first profile to log in, but when I switch to the next user, it defaults to a low resolution with no option to change it.18:55
diogenes_xubuntu20w, rename .config dir for that user.18:58
