[09:34] how does one install linx with raid [13:59] Hello there ! [19:59] danielmkarlsson was added by: danielmkarlsson [23:45] hi [23:47] I'm having some issues with getting ubuntu loading to desktop [23:47] can anyone help? [23:48] I can try. I am not sure what you mean by "getting ubuntu loading to desktop" [23:50] so basically I have installed from a Live USB that works fine, and after restarting it worked, then updated, now loading to just either a black screen, OR, a terminal, upon logging in and typing startx, nothing happens, and reinstalling gnome did not with either [23:50] gnome? which ISO did you install? [23:51] Ubuntu Studio 18.04 [23:51] So why would install gnome on top of that? [23:51] ubuntustudio does not have gnome [23:54] idk, it's what my friend recommended [23:54] but it didn't work so. [23:55] if it helps it's been 10 years since I've used Linux, my last distro was called #! [23:55] If you want gnome as a desktop it is bestter to install ubuntu (vanilla) and install the Studio sw over top of that [23:55] Well, the whole issue was, the live USB worked (still does), but after installing to my HDD, would no longer let me have a GUI [23:56] ubuntustudio comes with xfce as a desktop, which is pretty close to the way gnome used to be with gnome 2 [23:57] black screen, maybe nomodeset is your solution [23:57] !nomodeset [23:57] A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter [23:57] That is odd. I would not expect that to be a desktop gui problem so much as graphics drivers [23:57] and if it is pretty new hardware, other options might be needed.. [23:58] It also won't recognize my nVidia drivers as well [23:58] 1660 Gtx [23:58] something about nouveau [23:58] Still, it should have installed thing much the same as the iso live session [23:59] should I just reinstall it?
