=== Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life [04:05] I really need help with cmd line for dirs strting with "."! I'm horrible at resolving those issues. PB on this at: https://pastebin.com/V3pXyC8A [04:05] Esc476 was added by: Esc476 [04:26] TBotNik: this isn't really a kubuntu issue, so you might get better help in #ubuntu which is a much larger channel [04:28] Hey all, for some reason kwin is not starting on boot in kubuntu 18.04 (and now 19.10 after dist upgrade) I can get my boarders back by simply running kwin in krunner. Not sure why this is happening.. [04:33] that's odd, @Esc476 [04:34] you could possibly search in your [04:34] oops, your ~/.config folder for kwinrc or so [04:34] and see what it says [04:34] sure [04:35] 18.04 is old but should be still functioning [04:35] oh [04:35] in 19.10 for sure [04:38] hmm, never poked around in kwinrc but under [desktops] the Id are some wild strings [04:40] Id_1=e5502c39-d7cd-443e-9ab8-c00a1868ca41 โ€ฆ Id_2=5afd8285-d9fb-4c03-8f39-35e130408f0 [04:41] Probably just a way to identify the 2 virtual desktops, but its all that looks odd.. [04:41] unless you have set up kwin with special rules or so you can safely just move the .rc file [04:41] or just right click and rename as kwinrc.bak or so [04:42] No special rules. This is my media center, it needs to be as basic and possible for spousal approval haha [04:42] login again and you'll have a fresh file [04:42] or you can edit it and test [04:42] it's just text [04:44] yep renamed, rebooting now. This system has giving me more problems than anything else and all it needs to do is run kodi and firefox haha [04:45] ah [04:46] I think there is a kodi-os sort of deal [04:46] or used to be [04:47] Ya there is, but we use various streaming services. lol after reboot, same issue, no borders/kwin [04:50] I rember back in like 2012 I would specify what decorator/compositor/window manager etc all in a boot file on arch. would there happen to be anything like that but specifically for plasma? lol === rynot_ is now known as cart_man [05:21] @Esc476 it's possible that there is a file in ~/.local [05:21] some of those have binary bits but most are text [05:24] Not seeing anything for kwin, but I'll have to dig more tomorrow. I need to call it a night. Thanks for the help! [05:27] niters [06:14] Melsnhyfe Okon was added by: Melsnhyfe Okon [06:15] https://yt.vu/MoJ1GrH_-tk [06:35] greetings, For the past week or so, 'sudo apt update' says 'you are up to date'. This is unusual to me as before there were updates everyday and every moultiple times on the same day. [06:36] s/every/even [06:38] isomari: Do you think the repo is lying? [06:40] I've had that happen before, and I just take it on face value. Missing an update or 10 across a number of packages given most development is extremely limited & incremental, is likely of no real concern. My $0.02 [06:41] isomari: many of the paid and volunteer workers have been on holiday [06:42] valorie: OK, thanks [06:42] I haven't seen many packages being moved into the archive in -release [06:42] but cosmic is still updating constantly. [06:42] and most work is on preparing and testing the next LTS (20.04) [06:42] you're right though, not many updates the last couple of weeks [06:43] cosmic is... 18.04? [06:43] 19.04 [06:43] 18.10 sorry [06:43] 19.04 is almost eol [06:43] 18.10 IS eol [06:43] !eol [06:43] End-Of-Life is when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop. Make sure to update Ubuntu before it goes EOL so you get updates promptly for newly-discovered security vulnerabilities. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOL and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more info. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades [06:44] LTS releases are supported for 3 to 5 years [06:44] regular releases for 9 months [06:44] 18.10 will get zero updates [06:45] I'd be surprised if 19.04 gets any more [06:45] I'm going to update it this week. But it's still updating. even today. [06:45] 18.10 I mean [06:45] that is eol [06:46] 18.04 is an LTS [06:46] I know. I'm saying that 18.10 is still updating. [06:46] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases [06:46] that's weird [06:46] I just did an update this morning. [06:47] what does About system say about it? [06:47] or inxi -F [06:47] or sysinfo [06:47] Sysinfo for 'valorie-Oryx-Pro': Running inside KDE Plasma 5.17.4 on Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) powered by Linux 5.3.0-7625-generic, CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz at 2638-2926/3800 MHz, RAM: 31515/32061 MB, Storage: 332/1144 GB, 275 procs, 123.95h up [06:49] didn't have sysinfo installed. [06:56] yes [06:56] as in do-release-upgrade [06:56] ok [06:56] yes [06:56] you have the EOL link if there are problems [06:56] ? [06:57] Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? [07:18] * jaafar is not having much luck with them [07:18] It's supposed to be possible to launch an action if something copied to clipper matches a regex [07:19] There is supposed to be a menu item somewhere called "Enable Clipboard Actions" and I cannot find it anywhere [07:26] It is somehow working now [07:27] Still no "enable clipboard actions" setting but a lot of googling indicates that C-M-x in the right spot is supposed to do it [09:27] I need some help adding ncomputing to my sysetm server that is running kubuntu 19.04 as I have just worked out the issues and have just got the system running smothly [09:28] I have Ncomuting L300 series, each platform so different that when you upgrade from on version to another that previous application dont work anymore. [09:47] building fewer dependencies on proprietry systems could possibly help there. [10:04] Hi all, is the authentication problem with google still there? โ€ฆ I can't access to my google calendar or gdrive from kubuntu [10:07] kio-gdrive and mail is definitely still broken because Google has decided not to allow the KDE keys [10:09] Yes, how sad [10:13] Hello! Anyone who can confirm if chrome is recently unable to fullscreen video players in youtube? I suspect this is related to highdpi screens. [10:13] does kubuntu use x11 or waylands? [10:14] x11 [10:15] you can install and run wayland though [10:16] What's the purpose of wayland? I mean why you should choose it? [10:31] I am curious, I don't know the differences between wayland and x11 [10:31] IrcsomeBot1: https://wayland.freedesktop.org/ [10:32] IrcsomeBot1: there is a good explaination [11:11] HELLO [11:15] hi [11:23] Uh hi [11:25] ๐Ÿœ [11:26] happy new year [11:27] Hey thank you. It's def. one of those years. I guess I just bropught about 5k clients with me just now/: [11:33] no idea [11:39] hi everybody I am in a bit of a pickle .... where does flatpak install file when used trough Discover Software Manager? and where does snap? [11:43] I installed flatpack through snap and it mirrors through the ubuntu software manager that ships with the release. [11:45] zzxo: yes, but where are the files? [11:46] let's say I install freecad through flatpak, where are the freecad files? [11:47] flatpak can br in /var/lib [11:48] but when you did install flatpack frmo snap this mean your FP is in container [11:56] Alabalistic: I know it is in a container .... but where is the container with the file/s? [11:56] Alabalistic: if it is in /var/lib, why does it not require root password to install? [11:57] I cant find flatpack in the snapcraft.io store [12:00] hmm [12:02] /var/lib/dpkg/info/ktouch-data.list [12:02] /usr/share/ktouch/courses/tr.xml [12:03] this is all I can find for one of my snaps [12:03] ktouch [12:05] https://hackernoon.com/managing-ubuntu-snaps-the-stuff-no-one-tells-you-625dfbe4b26c [12:17] Thank you .... [12:20] No problem [12:22] Hey folks [16:57] Hello ! :). [17:23] alt-tab isn't working in my latest plasma5, anyone know why? I have the global shortcuts set to next window [17:45] (Photo, 1280x832) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/CntdhWig/file_21576.jpg Giving Discover a shot. [17:47] i am having troupe setting up ns testing the strack [17:47] @Schykle, Why so many updates? Are you updating from ppas? [17:47] pastbin.com/CVLq8MYW [17:47] @Franzpow, Just added the backports PPA :3 [18:45] Hello. I usually, for some reason, created bootable usb's with windows and rufus. It created a whole directory structure, probably just unpacking the iso. Now I want to do it from linux. And it seems that... the only thing I do is to just copy the iso file (as the only file) to a usb stick? [18:46] e.g. this guy here says so: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kubuntu/comments/8mpvfz/how_to_make_bootable_pendrive_on_kubuntu_1804/ [18:47] on the other hand, here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick I should use usb-creator ? [18:47] alias Startup Disk Creator ? [18:50] ok, installing this sudo app with apt install usb-creator-gtk [19:36] Well, enabling the backports PPA was a mistake. Is it possible to downgrade/undo this? [19:37] (Photo, 812x185) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/UEn20aH7/file_21587.jpg Latte Dock has decided it doesn't care what order my launchers are in. It's going to randomly move them around on a whim. [19:39] Discord should be between Messenger and Mailspring, yet, when I open a window, Discord gets moved to a random position in the dock, and moves around at random. If I open Discord, the launcher disappears completely. The Telegram and Messenger launchers get swapped around at random, and really the only thing staying consistent are the first three. [19:59] hello. in installer i chose to create efi system partition. however i can't set any boot flag on it. is that ok? will it be set automatically? i set it to 510 MB [20:00] first time UEFI install- [20:01] If you chose the "EFI System Partition" then it's fine. [20:01] The installer automagically sets those conditions. [20:02] excellent. let's hope it iwll work. i've been at the build for 5 hours now. currentl yon install. is root at 50 Gb neough? i dont' think 20 Gb would be enough. my current machine has 12 GB in usr due to games [20:03] steam is on home i think. at least that is what it is showing. currentl yi dont' have a separate home but on the new PC i would like ot create it. [20:04] getting tired :-) [20:05] I think 50GB should typically be enough. It's always kinda hard to know for sure as use can change over time and not everyone uses as much in root as others, so it's a rough guesstimate ๐Ÿ˜… [20:06] yes, i realise that. without games 20 GB is over the top. [20:08] i checked my current disk on old PC. there i have only root and it looks like home has most data. system part has some stuff on var, something on TMP maybe but overall the /usr is the big one. the rest is negligable [21:05] Hello. Can someone help me with a suddenly non-working extended screen? [21:06] The screen runs other hardware, and the laptop runs other screens, but the two suddenly won't work together. [21:06] Is there a way to delete config for that particulat screen? [21:06] Or rather, where can i [21:10] voje: I haven't done multimonitor, but check https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=309&t=153057 maybe [21:14] bprompt: Could find anything relevant, but ty for trying :) [21:14] *couldn't [21:14] voje: well, backup that script, and try running that one provided there, and reboot, assuming that'll make the system reconfigure the multiple monitors [21:16] bprompt: I'll have to tailor it to my system, but I guess it's worth a shot [21:17] Was hoping for a config file that could be deleted [21:23] voje: according to https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?t=126244 , you can always check the file at ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc, make sure you back it up first [21:23] voje: on the other hand, you can check the repositories for "Kscreen" app, for multimonitor configuring [21:25] Found a config file for screens in ~/.local/share/kscreen. I tried removing that and will restart. Crossing fingers :) Ty! [21:32] @Schykle you can always use ppa-purge [21:32] !ppa-purge [21:32] To disable a PPA from your sources and revert your packages back to default Ubuntu packages, install ppa-purge and use the command: ยซ sudo ppa-purge ppa:/ ยป โ€“ For more information, see http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/remove-ppa-repositories-via-command.html [21:38] Any idea to fix this error?
