pragomerhi. I have two kubuntu 18.04.3 installtions (on two pcs). On one of the systems the search function does not work in dolphin: when I hit strg+f and input lets say "mkv" to find all mkv-files, this works on pc1 but not on pc2.06:36
pragomerany idea what could be broken here?06:36
valoriepragomer: did you disable baloo on one of them?06:41
valoriethat's the indexer06:41
valorie!baloo06:41
valoriehmm, doesn't look like we have a factoid for that06:42
valorieif you hit alt+space, krunner pops up06:42
valorieif you type file indexer monitor you can check06:43
diogenes_pragomer, btw there is a good zenity search script that is distro agnostic, you can use it everywhere.06:46
pragomerdiogenes_: how is it called?06:47
pragomervalorie: hi .. yes an indexing issue is what I thought of...  I will check baloo. Thank you06:48
diogenes_pragomer, sudo apt install zenity and i will pastebin the script.06:48
valorieyw06:49
pragomervalorie: jippie.. this helped. I seemed, that my flashdrive was in baloo-config's exceptions... for whatever reason (on pc1 it isnt)... I now deleted the exception and I will see, after re-indexing, if it works, but I think i will.06:51
pragomerthank you very much :-)06:51
valorieexcellent! best of luck06:52

ballnhello! is this the right place to ask about audio/video issues? i'm new to kubuntu19:06
ballnnamely - audio (speakers via xonar u5 external card, everything set to 100% in pulseaudio) is very quiet compared to windows. and experiencing poor fps in games and even watching fullscreen videos, with gtx1060, using recommended nvidia-driver-43519:12

uberbdonHello everyone!23:05
bpromptallo23:05
uberbdoni'm hoping someone can give me a quick hand setting a static IP on my eth0 so I can connect to a device with a hard coded static IP23:06
uberbdonI'm using the default "connections" settings GUI within Kubuntu23:07
uberbdonway more optiions than simply setting a static IP in window's for IPV423:07
tomreynis it ethernet or wireless?23:08
uberbdoncool, people are here :)23:08
tomreyn:)23:08
uberbdonSo here's my situation, I install internet for a local WISP, and I manually program each radio before deployment23:08
uberbdonthe default IP for these radios is 169.254.1.123:08
uberbdonin windows, I set my IPv4 IP to static 169.254.1.x and then pop a browser, and enter the device settings23:09
uberbdonIn Kubuntu, do I need to be disconnected to wlan to do this?23:09
uberbdonthis is done via ethernet, mind you23:09
tomreynso it's done via ether net but you'd like to know how to do it on wireless?23:10
uberbdonnegative23:11
uberbdoni want to use ethernet23:11
uberbdonbut I'm attempting this in kubuntu now instead of windows, and windows there werent nearly as many options23:11
tomreyn169.254.1.1 is an ipv4 address from the link local range, but from what i understood that's not a mechanism you use on windows23:12
uberbdoni noticed under "method" link local is an option to use23:12
tomreynso you'd rather want static assignment then on kubuntu as well, i guess23:12
uberbdonbut again, in windows you simply set IPv4 of your NIC to static IP23:13
uberbdonI want to be able to switch my static ip around23:13
tomreynyes, likewise on kubuntu23:13
uberbdonhmm, ok23:13
uberbdonmy normal procedure is, log into 169 GUI, program to the IP we're going to use, then change my nic to that IP and continue programming it23:13
tomreynipv4 method -> manual, then you specify an address on the same subnet23:13
uberbdonhmm, ok23:13
uberbdonim thinking theres a conflict with me being connected to wifi at the same time23:14
uberbdonI guess I shouldve tested that out before running to the IRC channel :)23:14
uberbdonill be right back and let you know if thats the problem23:15
uberbdonthat was indeed the cause23:17
tomreynso it's alreadey fixed?23:18
uberbdonyup23:19
uberbdonnow that I think about it i don't think you can do that in windows, either23:19
uberbdonI'm just always in the field with my laptop device23:19
uberbdonwindows laptop device*23:19
tomreynvery well. windows 10 will automatically switch to link local if if can't get a dhcp lease. i'm not sure how that was on earlier versions.23:20
tomreynoh gone23:20
