WimpressMorning o/10:26
=== seb128_ is now known as seb128
seb128Wimpress, good morning, how are you? recovering from the hackfest?10:27
WimpressLast day of the hackfest for us.10:29
WimpressSadly, the Taru team have left us :-(10:29
WimpressWe're working on a blog post to summarise what we worked on this week10:29
seb128woooot10:31
Laneymoin Wimpress10:33
Laneydidrocks still there or on the train already?10:33
WimpressDidier is in train hell already.10:34
WimpressHis trains have been cancelled at least 3 times this week.10:34
WimpressHe need to leave early to get a different train because there is only one connection option in France now.10:34
Laney:(10:35
didrockshey Laney! I'm on the train, approximately near Lille10:42
didrocksLaney: I changed my first train which was cancelled (and planned later in the day)10:42
didrocksironnically, I received a text message yesterday evening telling me that the new Eurostar I was supposed to take would leave on time, but arrive 90 minutes late in Paris10:43
didrockswhich would have make me miss my connexion to Paris -> Lyon10:43
didrocksso, I was with atpi, so that they change my Eurostar, keeping the TGV one (I'll have one more hour in Paris to wait)10:43
didrocksand of course, the Eurostar I just took was delayed as well, but planned for 20 minutes delay which transformed in leaving only 9 minutes late, so ok ;)10:44
didrockshey Laney! I'm on the train, approximately near Lille10:46
didrocksLaney: I changed my first train which was cancelled (and planned later in the day)10:46

Laneyit worked the first time :P10:46
Laneyhey didrocks10:46
didrocksoh, I was lagging and then disconnected10:46
didrocksweechat was lying to me :)10:46
Laneysounds a bit stressful, but good that you found a nice option in the end10:47
Laneyhope the week was worth the travel pain]10:47
seb128does anyone know if "Architecture: [!i386]" in debian/control works/if there is a way to do that?11:59
seb128ignore that12:00
popeyseb128: <3. Thanks for updating thunderbird!12:38
seb128popey, np!12:38
didrockshey from my train in Paris!13:58
seb128hey didrocks, glad to see that the trip is going well at the end14:02
Wimpressseb128 Laney didrocks Just tested this extension - https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2087/desktop-icons-ng-ding/15:23
WimpressIt is an new verion of the desktop icons we ship.15:23
WimpressBut, drag and drag to/from the desktop is working well :-)15:24
seb128Wimpress, why a fork rather than contribute to the existing one?15:24
WimpressIt is from the same author as the original.15:24
WimpressI don't know why he has created a fork.15:24
popeyI just tested it, and it works very much like nautilus did in the past15:25
popeyi.e. worked well15:25
LaneyIt works quite differently, so he developed it separately to be able to make invasive changes15:27
didrocksinteresting15:29
WimpressWe've just run through some basic mpt guided testing.15:29
WimpressVery encouraging.15:29
didrocksah, it's some kind of a hack, with a whole different concept15:34
didrocks(it's a gtk application scaled and placed on the desktop)15:34
didrockswondering how it works for multiple monitors15:34
WimpressThat seems to be a limitation accordingly to comments on the extensions page.15:35
seb128:-/15:35
seb128no good solution!15:35
WimpressWell, could we not assist with that?15:35
seb128perhaps, no idea how much work that is15:36
Laneynow?15:36
seb128we would need someone who understand what needs to be done to time budget15:36
seb128and trade for other work probably15:36
seb128since we are already over budget15:36
WimpressIndeed.15:36
seb128you are the boss, so if you want to descope other work in favor of that...15:37
seb128step one would be to get someone to estimate the work15:37
WimpressIf you remember the incomplete desktop icons implementation was highlighted when we were at the last sprint.15:37
WimpressWe could choose to drop the current implemenation entirely.15:37
seb128yes, I'm well aware of it being suboptimal15:37
seb128I just don't believe the other one to be a magic wand15:38
seb128like no multimonitor would be a regression and probalby more visible that the lack of dnd15:38
WimpressAccording to the ubuntu report data 93% of users have a single screen at install.15:39
seb128and 96% don't do dnd between their desktop and apps :p15:39
WimpressCitation needed ;-)15:40
seb128Wimpress, anyway, I'm not against it, just cautious to switch from a known situation (with issues) to an unknown situation which might fix some of the issues but have other feature/stability/performance problems15:41
hellsworthgood morning everyone!15:41
Wimpresso/15:41
seb128hey Heather!15:41
seb128how are you?15:41

hellsworthit sure is16:02
oSoMoNhave a good week-end everyone, tty on Monday17:50
hellsworthyou too!17:51
davidkrauserjust noticed something weird on an upgrade from eoan -> focal: gnome-terminal no longer recognizes fonts from the xfonts-terminus package. Looking at the package versions, though, gnome-terminal in eoan-updates matches what's in focal. Same story for xfonts-terminus. Those fonts still work in other applications, too (like xterm, xfontsel, etc.)22:41
davidkrauserI'd file a bug, but have no idea which project is the culprit :-/22:41
davidkrausermaybe some sort of font-related bug elsewhere in gnome?22:42
sarnoldtry something else gnomeish to test; I think gnome-terminal is going to use pango or libcairo (or both?) in the process of rendering fonts, but xfontsel and xterm will probably use other mechanisms to render fonts22:46
