=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [04:26] my install is no longer able to detect my internal webcam [04:26] /dev/video0 does not exist [04:26] cheese says "no device found" [04:26] I am on a thinkpad x230, and my webcam worked a couple of days ago [04:34] test [04:44] meh I'll fix it l8er thanks anyway [11:31] hi guys, i have a problem with xubuntu installation, i have an eee900 with xubuntu 18.04 installed on. it was working ok till i just upgraded. [11:31] then every time it was bbooting goes to black screen [11:31] tried to boot with an older kernel version? [11:31] i reinstalled system with desktop iso and even with minimal but always black screen [11:32] you enabled updates during the installation process? [11:32] no [11:33] uhm [11:33] before reinstall the system there were 2 kernels (the old one and the new i think were 4.x and with none of them it wont start [11:33] now i see kernel 5.x [11:34] so, you used the xubuntu 18.04.x ISO? [11:34] yes with no luck [11:34] then i tried even the mini.iso and selected xubuntu minimal from menu and again no luck [11:37] and you cannot get any display output at all? [11:37] like, are you able to switch to TTY and use the console? [11:37] this way you could check the log files [11:38] if i try to press any key sometimes the splash of xubuntu exits and run forever and sometimes goes into text boot [11:38] i can reach to boot in safe mode and i see desktop [11:39] seems that it hangs if it starts in normal mode [11:41] if i press ESC during startup the startup at bottom screen i see that the boot is blocked with moething that says: [11:41] A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (4min 7s/ nolimit) [11:42] always the same error, in old system, in iso installed from xubuntu and with system installed with mini.iso [11:43] so, you should check the system log [11:43] journalctl [11:44] to only show log entries from the previous boot: journalctl -b -1 [11:45] ok i reboot in safe mode and i check there [11:46] it could be that persistent log storage is disabled, so only data for the current boot is available [11:46] what i should search here? [11:47] anything that looks like an error [11:47] towards the end/bottom [11:47] the last 10% or so [11:55] i searched in the log before i pressed the poweroff button, the last lines were sayng something about plymouthd [11:55] received SIGRTMIN+20 from pid 282 (plymouthd) [11:56] 3 times [11:58] it hangs here [11:59] because it started at 38min and when i pressed poweroff it was at 43min [12:00] xubuntu89w: maybe disabling/uninstalling plymouth could help [12:01] what is plymouth? [12:04] xubuntu89w: the thing you were talking about [12:04] graphical boot screen [12:06] ok... absolutely unnecessary :D i try to disable it... [12:20] OK solved! My system won't start because there was something bad in lastest plymouth updates that broke, i solved just modifying grub boot options [12:20] nano /etc/default/grub [12:21] and changed GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet" [12:22] now i don't see the splash screen at startup but my system starts :) [12:22] thanks brainwash for your support ;) [12:23] great :) [16:56] Hello [17:00] how to add notes that stick to my desktop ? [18:15] Hi everybody. I speak just a little english: I'm from italy. Yesterday I installed Xubuntu 18.04-desktop-i386. Everything is all right but wifi connection. I only have wifi connection at home. No way to get a wired connection. I also know I have to install b43-fwcutter on my HP pavilion (AMD Athlon cpu 32 bit), with a Broadcom BCM 4318 network [18:15] card. How can I download it?
