zx2c4apw: ping again?18:32
zx2c4debian has changed some package things18:32
zx2c4binary package names are the same :https://packages.debian.org/sid/wireguard https://packages.debian.org/sid/wireguard-dkms https://packages.debian.org/sid/wireguard-tools18:32
zx2c4binary package names are the same: https://packages.debian.org/sid/wireguard https://packages.debian.org/sid/wireguard-dkms https://packages.debian.org/sid/wireguard-tools18:33
zx2c4but the source packages are now split into "wireguard" and "wireguard-linux-compat"18:33
zx2c4https://packages.debian.org/source/sid/wireguard-linux-compat https://packages.debian.org/source/sid/wireguard18:33
apwzx2c4: fun ... why have they done that now18:51
zx2c4apw: i guess you havent read any of my emails or the several messages ive sent you on IRC in the last few weeks?19:01
zx2c4ill resend you stuff19:01
zx2c4one sec19:01
zx2c4apw: sent again19:02
zx2c4can you confirm you got the email and there isnt spam filter stuff happening?19:02
apwzx2c4: you choose your moments, just accepted fully, and you change names, sigh19:10
zx2c4apw: wait what?19:11
zx2c4sorry, but no19:11
zx2c4i emailed you about this a month ago19:11
zx2c4a few times19:11
zx2c4sent you messages in here19:11
zx2c4poked sultan19:11
zx2c4have been trying to get in touch with you to coordinate this19:11
cjwatsonzx2c4: the wireguard-linux-compat source package is already in focal-proposed, FYI19:18
zx2c4oh, really? then what on earth is apw talking about19:19
zx2c4when he says "just accepted fully, and you change the names"19:19
cjwatsonI'm not going to engage in telephone-game stuff, just giving information19:20
cjwatsonit might be that proposed-migration just needs to be hinted to migrate wireguard and wireguard-linux-compat together; not completely sure19:20
cjwatsonsince both are valid candidates19:20
zx2c4is there anything open source anywhere?19:20
apwcjwatson: dunno we have delta, so perhaps they are out of sync19:20
zx2c4both https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/wireguard-tools and https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/wireguard-dkms both indicate old packags19:21
cjwatsonapw: as I say they're both valid candidates19:21
apwhmmm19:21
zx2c4ideally you should just import dkg's packages and be done with it19:21
zx2c4no need to do anything complicated19:21
cjwatsonzx2c4: I'm looking at rmadison output.  packages.ubuntu.com is not the best view19:21
zx2c4there's been plenty of warning abut this19:21
cjwatsonThe source packages in Ubuntu are the Debian packages with minor adjustments on top19:21
zx2c4cjwatson: link to rmadison? never heard of this19:21
cjwatsonit's in the devscripts package19:22
cjwatsonOr you could look at Launchpad19:22
apwzx2c4: yeah we were somewhere we understood and now we aren't so that is confusing and work and work is always annoying19:22
zx2c4ah so i have to install ubuntu19:22
zx2c4will look at launchpad19:22
cjwatsonhttps://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wireguard and https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wireguard-linux-compat19:22
zx2c4apw: yes, this is why ive tried to contact you every single week, sometimes several times, through differing means, for like a month or maybe more19:22
zx2c4cjwatson: thanks19:22
zx2c4cjwatson: oh, good, looks like those are up to date19:23
zx2c4wireguard-linux-compat is one version behind, but i assume the verison bump will trickle down19:23
zx2c4thats usually just a matte rof time, right?19:23
cjwatsonWill need a manual merge since there's an Ubuntu delta, but probably better to get the current set migrated to focal first19:24
cjwatsonOn general principles19:24
apwcjwatson: yeah I'll poke it19:24
cjwatsonta19:24
apwzx2c4: not your fault, I know I am the one burried19:24
zx2c4cjwatson: for eoan i vaguely recall there being a delta because of a work around for some ubuntu kernel derp19:25
zx2c4for focal, i dont anticipate that happening again19:25
zx2c4so not sure there should be a delta. unless im forgetting something?19:25
zx2c4apw: also, did you ever succeed in building the signed binary module?19:25
cjwatsonThe reasoning is described in the changelog19:25
cjwatsonWhich is visible from the LP links that I gave you19:26
zx2c4ah thanks19:26
cjwatsonI haven't looked in detail, but it is clearly not just about "some ubuntu kernel derp" (whatever that means)19:26
zx2c4oooo, right, getrandom and the demo test19:26
zx2c4i remember now19:26
zx2c4you're right19:26
zx2c4thankfully those two patches are on top of the up-to-date wireguard package19:27
zx2c4the new wireguard-linux-compat package doesnt have either of those patches19:27
zx2c4and the one i had in mind has been dropped, per that changelog19:27
zx2c4so that means the version bump should be a bit easier than usual19:27
zx2c4ooo apparently this was done a few days ago by ` -- Unit 193 <unit193@ubuntu.com>  Fri, 17 Jan 2020 18:33:54 -0500`19:28
zx2c4i wonder who that is19:28
cjwatsonThat's all the naming I've ever seen for them; AFAIK they're an Ubuntu developer who consistently goes by a pseudonym19:29
apwzx2c4: I did patches and got stalled19:35
zx2c4apw: ah, could you pick that back up before focal hits?19:36
zx2c4meaningful feature parity with the rest of linux seems like a valuable thing to have, given focal release will align more or less with 5.619:37
hggdhAlthough I am pretty sure it must be documented somewhere... could not find it: I installed linux-crashdump (18.04 instance under Azure), and sysrq c to test it. Crash kernel came up as expected (after I increased memory reserved to crashkernel), generated a crash file on /var/crash.20:41
hggdhbut the crash file did NOT have the vmcore. What am I missing (I have never had the need to use crashkernel on Ubuntu, so I am sort of surprised)20:42
apwzx2c4, ok at least what is there is migrated22:34
zx2c4wireguard-linux-compat is an old version, as i mentioned above. we're waiting in that to migrate next.22:36
zx2c4Im not aware of any ubuntu-specific patched that youll need atop wireguard-linux-compat22:37
zx2c4Seem like binary .ko distributed with the rest of Ubuntu kernel modules will be possible? Or planning on a package called wireguard-modules? Or?22:38
zx2c4apw: 22:38
apwzx2c4, that is my plan; likley linux-modules-wireguard i think22:39
zx2c4Okay. In that case youll want to change the Requires of the wireguard package to use that name instead of wireguard-modules22:42

zx2c4https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/Ic6CZxpM/Screenshot_20200120-234434.png22:44
apwzx2c4, i'd provide whatever you are expecting22:45
apwProvides:22:45
zx2c4Oooo a provides matches a dependency, cool22:45
zx2c4Thats so much nicer than the crazy metapackage system we have in Gentoo22:45
