Taika-KimHi everybody, I have a weird problem. I made a clean installation of Ubuntu Studio 19.10, and now apt-get update seems to notify a ton of packages as no longer needed. There's probably a few hundred of them. Is something wrong with the installer? This is very confusing, I don't want to autoremove them since that would probably delete most of the19:41
Taika-Kimsystem.19:41
Taika-Kim(I'm quite new to Linux, so bear with me if this is something evident)19:42
Eickmeyer[m]Taika-Kim: Known bug, check the release notes.19:42
Taika-KimHere's the first few lines as an example: The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:  a2jmidid acpi-support acpid albatross-gtk-theme alsa-base alsa-tools alsa-tools-gui  app-install-data-partner apt-offline ardour-data ardour-video-timeline argyll argyll-ref audacity  audacity-data blackbird-gtk-theme19:43
Taika-Kimblender-data bluebird-gtk-theme blueman bluez bluez-cups brasero  brasero-cdrkit brasero-common breeze-icon-theme brltty brltty-x11 calibre calibre-bin carla  carla-data carla-lv2 carla-vst catdoc catfish cheese-common create-resources dc19:43
Taika-KimAh, I tried to Google, didn't find a solution outright, thanks!19:43
Eickmeyer[m]The release notes basically state that you shouldn't deselect packages during the initial install, Taika-Kim .19:44
Eickmeyer[m]That the feature is broken.19:45
Taika-KimYes I'm reading the notes now, should have done it before the installation. Do you think it's better to wipe the installation and just install everything, or wait for a fix? In the notes there's not a quick solution. Would leaving the system as it is cause problems in the long run? I just installed the system one week ago, so redoing everything19:47
Taika-Kimwould not be that bad.19:47
Eickmeyer[m]A wipe at this point (just after installation) isn't a bad idea as you don't really lose anything.19:51
OvenWerksTaika-Kim: you can try reinstalling the parts you want with installer19:51
OvenWerks-installer is meta based though, so no deselecting just one package. It is group based19:52
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: That's not the point. When they unchecked stuff during install, it has a tendency to want to remove EVERYTHING.19:52
Eickmeyer[m]Meaning install from iso.19:52
OvenWerks :P19:52
OvenWerksOk can we remove that page?19:53
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: The Ubiquity installer plugin for Ubuntu Studio is broken. We can't remove it, that's the Ubuntu Desktop team. They're working on a FIX.19:53
Taika-KimHmm maybe I would save trouble later on by just redoing everything... Bitwig is the only thing I have installed so far, so yes it would not take long to set everything up again.19:53
OvenWerksdrive sizes have again gone way up19:53
OvenWerksso maybe we don't need to be able to install less19:54
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: And that's fair too. All of Ubuntu Studio fits onto < 32GB.19:54
Eickmeyer[m]Either way, the bug report is made and the Ubiquity team is working on it, expected fix for 20.04 LTS.19:54
OvenWerksjust saying if they wish to fix via removal, I would not cry.19:55
Taika-KimI still have just a 256GB NVMe drive for the system, so I chose to remove stuff, not sure if it made a big difference in the end though.19:58
OvenWerksI have installed Studio on as little as 20GB19:59
OvenWerks(even a 16G usb drive)19:59
Taika-Kimthanks everybody!20:09
OvenWerksThat confrims the struggle people are going through.20:35
OvenWerkslooks like I will try lubuntu first as it is at 80%, kubuntu at 47%20:36
OvenWerksinteresting that lubuntu is 65% the same a xubuntu...20:36
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: wrong channel20:39
