Laneysummer time kids09:26
RikMillsjibel: unity-autopilot from src:unity also deps on window-mocker. are you intending to drop that as well?09:26
jibelRikMills, no I didn't plan to do that, but any maintainer of unity can do it. I don't have upload rights, it's a single line to remove from the control file and the tests are skipped if window-mocker is not installer09:34
jibelinstalled*09:34
jibelOOC why qt4 is not removed from windowmocker instead of removing windowmocker from all the packages that depend on it?09:35
RikMillsjibel: apologies. I thought you were core-dev or otherwise had rights. regards where in the chain to drop the dep, I think there have just been a few conversions that didn't quite 'join up' in their conclusions. the qt4 window-mocker dep has to go if window-mocker stays in the archive09:43
xnoxjibel:  tah, will upload in a second.09:57
xnoxjibel:  the question i have is if unity-autopilot is used at all by anything, or even run anywhere.10:00
jibelxnox, it's the functional test suite of unity, so I don't think it's used anywhere outside of unity.10:06
jibelthat's a question for the current devs of unity10:06
Laneythat's enough yak shaving on eds11:20
diddledanbald yaks?!11:22

Laneynicely coiffured hipster yaks11:23
Laneyactually you probably couldn't call anything about e-d-s hipster in any way11:23
Saviqdidrocks: Hey, I've to set up my laptop fresh, was wanting to use your guys' zsys work, is there a way to have it with encryption yet?11:33
Saviqjibel: you may know, too? ^11:40
jibelSaviq, Hi, we won't enable encryption this cycle. We noticed some performance issues and don't have enough confidence to enable it by default for all the datasets.12:36
Saviqjibel: that's subvolume encryption? How about full disk?12:36
jibelSaviq, however you can still encrypt your home datasets for example by creating a new dataset with encryption on then export/import your data12:37
jibelthat's for full disk, we won't enable encryption when the main pool is created12:37
jibelbut you can still to it for individual datasets12:37
=== cpaelzer__ is now known as cpaelzer
Saviqjibel: any way to tell zsys to do its stuff on luks-encrypted volumes?12:40
cpaelzerdidrocks: can you add the desktop team subscription to fonts-urw-base35 for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-urw-base35/+bug/1862048 ?12:40
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1862048 in ghostscript (Ubuntu) "[MIR] fonts-urw-base35" [High,New]12:40
jibelSaviq, no, if you want to use luks + zfs you have to do it manually12:41
SaviqAck, thanks12:41
SaviqLet's see if the focal installer works :)12:42
diddledandoing ZFS on top of another technology like LUKS or the BSD equivalent is usually advised against by ZFS upstream IIRC12:42
SaviqSure, makes sense :)12:42
diddledanit's best to let ZFS use the drive directly :-)12:42
diddledanhaving an extra layer means ZFS doesn't know the true topology so it can't optimise correctly, possibly causing issues12:43
SaviqHome dataset would work, too, would I need to unlock manually before logging in?12:43
didrocksSaviq: yes, there is no integration yet AFAIK13:35
didrocksLaney: mind subscribing desktop-packages to fonts-urw-base35? Only you and seb are admin for this team13:36
didrockscc cpaelzer ^13:36
tkamppeterdidrocks, exactly this I wanted to say here.13:45
tkamppeterAnd I have a MER for gsfonts now.13:45
tkamppeterSee bug 1862048.13:46
ubot5bug 1862048 in ghostscript (Ubuntu) "[MIR] fonts-urw-base35" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/186204813:46
didrockstkamppeter: please get the team subscribed as well before filing the MIR14:11
tkamppeterdidrocks, OK, sorry that I forgot it. Now it's ACKed at least. Hope this did not break something. I have subscribed the team at least after the fact.14:17
didrocksgood, thanks tkamppeter14:18
Laneyokey dokey14:18
Laneydone14:18
tkamppeterdidrocks, can someone report a bug on libwmf and python-reportlab to move from (unmaintained) gsfonts to (maintained and current) fonts-urw-base35?14:19
didrocksyou? :p14:20
Laneyindeed14:20
tkamppeterI tried but Launchpad oopses and deletes everything what I wrote.14:20
Laneythere's no reason that would be better for anyone else though14:20
tkamppeterOK, I will edit externally and then cycle until LP accepts.14:21
LaneyWait ten minutes; there's a known LP bug in this area and that's the remedy14:21
tkamppeterLaney, and what is this known bug?14:22
LaneySomething about postgres14:22
Laneydon't know the details, sorry :(14:22
tkamppeterLaney, but what will happen in 10 minutes?14:23
LaneyThat's how long the bug usually persists for, if it's the same one14:23
Laneyimagine if it's some maintenance task which takes that long to run14:24
tkamppeterLaney, I tried to report s new bug.14:24
tkamppeterOr does it mean that it takes these 10 minutes until my account gets unblocked from the postgres bug?14:26
GunnarHjbluesabre: Hello Sean, do you have time to sponsor the debdiff at bug #1861481?14:27
ubot5bug 1861481 in lightdm (Ubuntu) "language-options causes live CD sessions to be untranslated" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/186148114:27
Laneytkamppeter: Just wait ten minutes and try again, and if you still can't then maybe ask #launchpad to look at the OOPS ID you get14:31

tkamppeterLaney, I succeeded now: bug 186264114:45
ubot5bug 1862641 in python-reportlab (Ubuntu) "Please replace the dependency on gsfonts by fonts-urw-base35" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/186264114:45
Laneygreat14:47
LaneyYou might be better off filing those at Debian, and attaching patches14:47
Laneyto have the best chance of success14:47
LaneyTIL about F-strings in python15:24
hellsworthgood morning desktopers15:53
hellsworthi'm trying to reproduce a bug locally but it requires a working kerberos environment. is there a kerberos server somewhere I could use or should I actually go through with setting up a kerberos server/client?15:54
hellsworthit looks like setting up a kerberos server is a bit of a pain so though i'd ask before committing to that15:55
Laneytseliot: can I flag https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-440/+bug/1862499 to you please?15:55
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1862499 in nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 (Ubuntu) "package nvidia-compute-utils-440 440.59-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed nvidia-compute-utils-440 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1" [Undecided,Confirmed]15:55
Laneyit should be using /usr/sbin/nologin15:55
Laneyhey hellsworth15:55
Laneyno idea about kerberos I'm afraid15:56
hellsworthok thanks anyways15:56
didrockshey hellsworth15:57
Laneypossibly #ubuntu-server would15:57
hellsworthok thanks for the tip. i'll go ask there :)15:57
Laneytseliot: btw nologin is the default, so you can leave that out altogether15:58
oSoMoNgood morning hellsworth16:01
hellswortho/ oSoMoN !16:01
tseliotLaney, sure. I wonder why it started failing now16:07
LaneyI used ubuntu-drivers16:09
Laneysuspect maybe it removed the -435 package including the user and then -440 tried to recreate it16:09
tseliotI'll have a look, thanks16:13

diddledan_eeeverything_ depends on ligGL.so.1 :-p18:10

hellsworthyeah i mean makes sense18:12
kenvandinehellsworth: you should try building epiphany with the gnome-3-34 extension.  You can probably drop all the parts other than epiphany and snapcraft-preload18:36
kenvandinethe build failures are gtk18:36
hellsworthok18:37
hellsworththats like 130 lines removed :)18:41
kenvandineyup18:43
diddledanwait, gnome-3-34?! :-o19:18
diddledanand there I am still using gnome-3-28!19:18
hellsworthdiddledan: we're still working on merging it (https://github.com/snapcore/snapcraft/pull/2794) but you can go ahead and give it a shot. it's in the store under stanpcraft edge/pr-279419:21
gitbotsnapcore issue (Pull request) 2794 in snapcraft "Add gnome 3 34 extension" [Open]19:21
diddledanaha19:21
diddledanthanks :-)19:22
hellsworthif you build stuff with the gnome-3-34 extension and have any issues at all, i'd love to hear about them :)19:22
hellsworthkenvandine: epiphany is having the same issue as drawing (can't run snapcraftctl set-version $(git describe --tags --abbrev=10)) but in epiphany's case adding git to the build-packages section doesn't fix it19:36
kenvandinehellsworth: log?19:56
hellsworthhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/3pP7vfTwPH/19:57
hellsworthkenvandine: why isn't epiphany part of snapcrafters?21:25
kenvandineIt's more like the gnome snaps21:54
kenvandinehellsworth We should probably start treating it like the other gnome snaps21:54
hellsworthbut the other gnome snaps (mostly) have the snap included in upstream21:55
hellsworthok but i think i see your point. since epiphany is more "official" than the projects in snapcrafters, it should not be in snapcrafters21:56
RAOFrobert_ancell: I've got a heaptrack trace of gnome-software idling at ~700MB uploading to that gnome-software bug. Hopefully it's helpful!22:39
robert_ancellRAOF, thanks!22:39
ideopathicHi all... I'm building a cross platform application that is intended to be installed in the user space.  I've been looking at the XDG documentation for recommendations for installation paths.  It appears that ~/.local/share is the desired location, however, it's unclear if I install a help app if that should be installed in ~/.local/share/app/bin/helperapp or if this should be something like22:59
ideopathic ~/.local/bin/helperapp.  If someone could point me to an appropriate document or discussion, it would be appreciated.22:59
