OliDoes anybody know of a Rasberry-pi shaped SOC-style thingme that also has a built-in amplifier? I'm aware of the hat options for real Raspis, just looking to see if there are alternatives.12:55
daftykinsOli: what to do?14:01
zxmoypithere are 'better' pi clones out there with a lot of extra hardware on them. but i'd stick with the pi community as it's just so much bigger and far more stable18:22
* zxmoypi is slightly biased of course :-)18:23
daftykinsnever! :)18:24
daftykinsooh another laptop has bitten the dust thanks to the butterfingers of a client18:24
daftykinswell, not dead yet - https://imgur.com/a/2FwIYF7 dead hinge on a Dell XPS 13 935018:24
zxmoypidead hinge.... did they use it as a bottle opener or something? :-P18:28
daftykinsseems like! she took the whole week to ask me about it, heh - off in Spain with a backup machine i think at present18:31
* zxmoypi bets a euro sunscreen or alcohol damage on that one when it's get back :-P18:32
zxmoypior sand or water in the keyboard18:32
daftykinshehe18:33
daftykinsoh nice, she says the child knocked it off the bed18:36
zxmoypiie. she did18:37
daftykinsxD18:37
brobostigonthats like saying, my dog eat my homework.19:02
zxmoypiand your point is? :-P19:03
zxmoypithe excuses i have heard over the years for failing hardware....19:03
zxmoypithe dot matrix printer that had every wire, cable, resisitor cut with a diagonal snips 'just stopped'19:04
brobostigonlol.19:04
daftykins:D19:05
zxmoypiit was a point of sales system for a video shop and every transaction was recorded on paper. made it hard to pocket all the rental fees so the printer had to 'taken out'19:05
Gargoyledead??? that's not dead!! Stick some gaffer tape on it and give it back! ;-)19:53
zxmoypithe engineer who installed ram by shoving it through gap under floppy disk drive...19:55
brobostigonouch.19:55
zxmoypiwhen i opened i found the ram sitting on the motherboard after they brought the pc to me. i put it in slot and it worked. bit of a miracle that one19:56
brobostigoni bet.19:56
zxmoypithey of course wanted me to fix it if the ram failed at some point in the future.19:57
daftykinsyeah, it's your fault now ;D19:58
zxmoypiremember that parallel cable you sold them in 1992? that's why their internet is down now!!19:58
daftykinsi knew it was the wrong colour!20:04
daftykins;)20:04
zxmoypiyou ordered battleship grey but they only had morning mist gray. you did sign for it20:05
Olidaftykins to act as networked speakers in a network of Logitech Squeezeboxes. I already running a Raspi3 into a cheap external amp but it all seems a bit much.23:28
Oli"Stuff to leave running 24/7", not expense. It's cheap kit.23:29
daftykinsOli: amusingly i have exactly the same thing! i use picoreplayer on a 3B connected to my lounge AV receiver23:29
daftykinsi just pipe HDMI audio though23:29
daftykinsstill rocking a classic squeezebox v3 i think it is, but sadly lost the remote the other day to leaky batteries... hoping i can restore it with some conductive ink but haven't found the time to try yet23:30
OliWe have a Boom, a Radio, a Classic3 a couple of Duet Recievers and a couple of pis.23:31
daftykins:D23:31
OliIt's sad that it's still about the best you can do without spending megabucks23:31
OliSad for progression, it's still awesome23:32
daftykinsi have a nice 5 Pi setup in a client's home as i am quite against all that Sonos crap, unfortunately his wife discovered Spotify the other day and they've now been abandoned practically23:33
OliNot currently a Spotify user but we used to play Spotify through the SB23:33
daftykinsi know it's do-able but they have network AV receivers so it's easier to cut out the middle man23:34
daftykinsanywho i'd stick to the Pi and go for the addon boards probably, but i'd rather have an amp between23:37
