ergeshello,is anybody there?17:07
lubot<heysoundude> Here’s a screwball question: is anyone running kodi under lubuntu on a pi4?18:20
Noboru55Hello everybody!20:32
wxlhey20:33
Noboru55when i connect the usb to my iphone, i get mount-doubling. two foldes with name pictures and two folders with documents20:33
wxloh no not an i-thing20:34
Noboru55it does not happen to xfce or ubuntu, only in lubuntu20:34
wxlwhat version?20:34
Noboru55lol20:34
Noboru5518.0420:34
wxlsigh20:34
Noboru55i am sorry for iStuff20:34
wxlwell i'm going to give you the bad news20:34
Noboru55okay20:34
wxlit's clearly an issue with the file manager, which is a component of lxde20:34
Noboru55i was thinking about galaxy bold anyway20:34
wxllxde really hasn't seen any development in years20:34
wxlonce we hit april next year, we will stop supporting 18.0420:34
wxl(which is good because lxde isn't getting any updates anyways)20:35
wxlso you can file a bug on this if you want, but chances are you're not going to see it fixed20:35
wxltry lxqt instead20:35
Noboru55the 19.10 ?20:35
wxlat least there, if there is a problem, we can file a bug and it will get fixed!20:35
wxlyep20:35
Noboru55can i explain why i am 18.04?20:35
wxlsure20:36
Noboru55first i had xubuntu installed, so i liked the 18.04, i tried the 19.10 but for some reason my xubuntu 19.10 works slowly, like, when copy or move files, everything get stuck,, and i do not know, its weird slow here, so i was using the 18.04...   after some tests i decided to try lubuntu 18.04 and its faster than anything.. it works better for my20:37
Noboru55cpu too20:37
wxlright so couple things about that20:37
wxl1. xubuntu and lubuntu aren't the same XD20:38
Noboru55so i am a little afraid to try lubuntu 18.1020:38
wxlxubuntu is probably slower because of changes within xubuntu20:38
Noboru55but the kernel is not the same?20:38
wxlit never really was a "lightweight" desktop environment and it's been bloating up over the years20:38
Noboru55mmmm20:38
wxlthe kernel is the same but the likelihood of the kernel making your system run slower is practically zero20:38
Noboru55right20:38
Noboru55so.. lubuntu 19.10 will get support till ? 2023?20:39
wxl2. lxqt has not shown itself to be significantly larger in footprint than lxde20:39
Noboru55omg. the lubuntu 18.04 took me a week to be working as i wish...  all visual style and other things20:39
wxlbut even if you can show a difference, the difference exists because lxde is using an outdated toolkit (gtk2). lxqt was created because when trying to port to gtk3, it was WORSE in more ways than one than qt20:40
Noboru55i got it20:40
Noboru55last question20:40
wxlthere's some other considerations:20:40
Noboru55could i change pcmanfm for thunar ?20:40
Noboru55i meant in 19.1020:41
wxl * we don't support upgrading 18.04 to any other version because of the huge difference in not only the desktop environment but because of all the applications. i'd recommend a full re-install20:41
Noboru55because in 18.04 it is a problem20:41
Noboru55i will20:41
Noboru55going to download right now20:41
Noboru55thanks for open my eyes20:41
wxl * though 19.10 has a relatively limited support window (it's not an lts), you can easily upgrade to the lts that's due in april20:41
Noboru55ahhh20:42
Noboru55did not know it20:42
Noboru55its good20:42
wxl * the current lubuntu paradigm (lxqt and mostly qt apps) will be supported indefinitely20:42
Noboru55its 19.0420:42
Noboru55no 19.1020:42
wxl * lxqt upstream is very, very active, so bug fixes happen quickly20:42
wxlare you on lubuntu.net?20:42
wxlcuz that's not out website :/20:42
wxlthey're always outdated20:42
Noboru55https://lubuntu.net/downloads/20:42
Noboru55really ?20:43
wxllook at the topic20:43
Noboru55lol20:43
wxlor wikipedia, or distrowatch, or ubuntu.com, or… etc etc etc20:43
wxlthe only place you will see lubuntu.net mentioned is in blindly doing web searches20:43
Noboru55https://lubuntu.me/20:43
wxlyou should write them and tell them to take their stupid, confusing website down20:43
Noboru55now i see the 19.1020:43
wxlthey won't listen to me, but maybe from an actual user who's confused it would be given the consideration it deserves20:44
Noboru551,6 gb downloading20:44
Noboru55alright i will write20:44
wxlanywho i'm not sure i answered it but you can swap out file managers20:44
wxlthe only consideration is that you might be dragging in a bunch of unnecessary dependencies to find that file manager20:44
wxls/find/install/20:44
Noboru55in 18.04 i tried to purge pcmanfm and installl thunar, but when i click the right buttom on the desktop i did not see anymore the desktop preferences option, only a openbox menu20:45
Noboru55that was really weird20:45
wxli would personally suggest dolphin since i know it's based on qt20:45
Noboru55pcmanfm is part of the lubuntu i guess20:45
wxli wouldn't recommend removing one, but install a second one20:45
Noboru55i will do some tests before to download other filemanager20:46
Noboru55is dolphin lightweight?20:46
Noboru55i have a dual core processor ... 4gb ram ddr3 but 512mb video shared20:46
Noboru55so...20:46
wxlwell here's my experience: kubuntu isn't actually all that heavy20:46
wxlbut it's not meant to be lightweight20:46
wxlsee the xubuntu problem above20:46
Noboru55kubunt is so beautifull20:46
wxlbut i think with just one component, you won't have an issue20:46
wxllxqt lubuntu has a couple kde bits in it and it doesn't harm anything20:47
wxljust as long as we don't get plasma-desktop! that's the worst!20:47
Noboru55i agree20:47
Noboru55i do not use transparency too20:47
Noboru55weak video20:47
Noboru55lol20:48
Noboru55i am connect to wrong server20:48
Noboru55ops, wrong wifi20:48
Noboru55so my internet is too slow to download20:48
Noboru55i will back later20:48
Noboru55now i am choose the wifi and download lubuntu 19.1020:49
Noboru55i will back to tell u what i think about it20:49
Noboru55thank u20:49
wxlok be well!20:49
c|onemanthere's a new one. I did "ls" in a terminal window but it didnt work because I had deleted and re-created that folder20:50
c|onemanfrom the last time that I had hit cd20:50
wxlnot really a lubuntu problem. more of a kernel problem, if any20:52
c|onemanyeah , I was using debian. heh20:52
wxli see it as more of a user error. don't be in a folder that you plan on deleting :)20:52
c|onemanwell it highlights how things work in the bandend, at least for a GUI terminal20:52
c|onemanbackend20:52
wxli'm sure it would be similar if you weren't in x20:52
wxle.g. open two ttys, be in the folder in one, delete it in the other, ls in the first -> fail20:53
c|onemanyeah, its the same thing in 2 ssh sessions21:15
c|onemandelete folder & create it again, ls fails21:15
c|onemanI guess its 'ls'ing a specific folder ID and not a path name21:15
c|onemanstill, it could create confusion if you're trying to nano or cat something and you're getting no results21:16
c|onemanheh. tried to do it in Windows but windows locks the folder if you have it 'open' in cmd.exe21:17
wxlc|oneman: inodes.21:30

Noboru55wxl hey, i am using 19.10 now.22:42
Noboru55i am banned from freenode, needed to connect in another wifi22:43
Noboru55wxl it looks like kde...22:43
wxlNoboru55: you mean they both look like qt22:51
Noboru55yes, but i am ... confuse22:52
Noboru55do you know how can i set a dark theme ? i could change the window style, for numix (i like) and the panel is lubuncu darc .. ok22:52
Noboru55the pcmanfan is not dark...22:52
Noboru55pcmanfm22:53
wxl@HMollerCl ^^^22:54
Noboru55wxl maybe its the qt style... still trying22:59
Noboru55google chrome i modified the preferences to use the gtk style23:00
Noboru55why they change to qt23:06
Noboru55=/23:06
lubot<HMollerCl> Norobus pcmanfm needs to restart for changes to take effect23:22
lubot<HMollerCl> Since it also handles the desktop closing all the windows won't restart it. You could manually restart the desktop or logout/lohin23:23

Noboru55wxl needed to install qt5-style-plugins  so change the openbox theme, and then the style to gtk223:33
Noboru55oO it was hard to do23:34
