[13:28] could not open file "unable to handle admin locations is what i get [13:28] robin: try using a textmode editor via sudo. [13:29] what command would that be ? =L [13:29] for example sudo nano /etc/sysctl.conf [13:29] make the changes that you want, and then press ctrl-o to save the changes, and ctrl-x to exit the editor. [14:10] /msg NickServ identify 4511777 [14:11] lol [14:13] hi! I am a happy Xubuntu user for the last 3 years. I upgraded from 18.04 to 19.10 but the performance is extremely bad. For example switching workspaces takes ~1 sec and mouse freezes completely. How can I gather more information on what is going on? When I do GUI related actions I can see in top that Xorg is ~20-30% CPU, but I guess this is not [14:13] enough information [14:24] xubuntu4w, if you upgraded, could you try with a new test user and see if you get the same issues? [14:27] diogenes_ is there a default/vanilla test user or should I go ahead and create a new user? [14:28] xubuntu4w: try this https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=13233 [14:29] xubuntu4w, yes, just to create a new user like: sudo useradd test [14:31] brainwash `xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/vblank_mode` gives `auto`. So by reading the forum post, I understand I currently use glx [14:32] that is likely the case [14:32] try the different modes [14:36] brainwash OMG! yes this completely solves the issue. Both "xpresent" and "off" work just fine [14:36] great [14:37] xpresent should have been the actual default value for Xfce 4.14, but some people reported problems, so it was changed back to glx [14:38] and glx has its own problems =S [14:38] many many thanks! === genii_ is now known as genii [17:46] Hello, I haven't used IRC before but I'm looking for some help with Xubuntu... [17:47] I'm trying to install Xubuntu on an old Macbook but the live USB isn't being picked up as one of the boot options. However I've got a live USB of Ubuntu (the gnome-based one) and that shows as an EFI boot option. Is there a way to get Xubuntu to boot in EFI mode? [17:50] Anyone here? === sorinello1 is now known as sorinello === GridCube_ is now known as GridCube
