novaI have an Intel NUC loaded with xubuntu eoan connected to a television.  The televisions is 4k but I have xubuntu set to 1080p.  It looks fine after booting up, but if I switch to another input on the TV for a while and go back I see my 1080p xubuntu taking up only 1/4 of the screen.  It is not a scaling issue on the TV as far as I can tell because I have other 1080p devices that display without problems.  Has anyone experienced this07:59
novaor know what the problem could be?07:59
novaHere's what it looks like: https://pasteboard.co/IZ1zDrnt.jpg08:04
novaWhat's also interesting is that it isn't using the correct wallpaper when this happens either.08:05
novaAnother problem I am having...If i set "LightDM gtk+greeter settings" to use a solid color background, then log out and back in, I see a process called xiccd using exactly 25% of my cpu.  It seems like when I use an image for the background it doesn't do this.08:30
brainwashnova: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xiccd/+bug/184580009:31
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1845800 in xiccd (Ubuntu) "xiccd consumes 100% CPU" [Undecided,Fix released]09:31
novaIf i add the experimental PPA and update xiccd, am I also going to update the other packages from that repo?09:32
brainwashnot if you only install xiccd09:33
brainwash"apt install xiccd" will update the version if a newer one is available09:34
novabut if I already have xfce4-panel installed, and I update while using that PPA, will it not update that package as well?09:34
brainwashyou disable the ppa afterwards09:34
novaso I should not use "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" after adding the PPA09:35
novabut sudo apt install xiccd, then remove the ppa09:35
nova?09:36
brainwashsudo apt update && sudo apt install xiccd09:36
brainwashdisable PPA09:36
novaand the next time I update with the ppa disabled, will it downgrade the package?09:36
brainwashshouldn't09:37
brainwashit's a newer version09:37
brainwashalternatively, you could probably just remove that package09:37
novaoh?  it's not essential?09:37
brainwashor disable its autostart launcher (if it has one)09:37
brainwashit is need for color management of your monitor09:38
brainwashin case you have a custom color profile09:38
novaI see..thank you09:38
brainwashhttps://simon.shimmerproject.org/2019/02/19/color-profile-support-for-xfce/09:39
brainwashif you want to read about it09:39
novaHow long do you think it could take for this experimental version to make its way to the main repos?09:39
brainwashsadly, no idea09:40
brainwashmaybe never09:40
brainwashit is fixed in xubuntu 20.0409:40
brainwashor, it will be once it's released09:41
brainwashin april09:41
novaOh I see09:42
novaI see it listed in the "Session and Startup/Application Autostart", I'll just uncheck it there since I don't really have any need for color profiles that I'm aware of.09:44
novaThank you for your guidance ;)09:45
brainwashyou're welcome09:46

GridCubepiturren51: what do you mean unistalling?16:04
GridCubewhat do you want to uninstall?16:04
Kumoolxubuntu, you heard him16:05
GridCubethat makes no sense16:05
Kumoolyou can also just take your hdd out, and smash it with a rock16:05
GridCube^ that would work16:05
Kumoolno no, ubuntu could still survive16:05
GridCubedoubt it, but it does take 14 days for it to manifest tho16:06
Kumoolpiturren51: uninstalling could mean erasing the partition/drive or it could be overwriting it with another OS16:06
piturren51erase the drive and install a new os16:07
GridCubeyou don't need to do anything then, the other installer will ask you if you want to format16:08
GridCubespecially if its another linux flavour16:08
GridCubewindows wont ask and just format everything16:08
piturren51i tryed it from a bootable usb but appears a xubuntu screen at that moment before starting the installation and i can't move forward16:11
GridCubeyour boot manager might not be looking to boot from usb first16:14
GridCubecheck at the uefi options16:14
GridCubemaybe theres an F key you need to press to force teh boot to chose usb first16:14
Kumoolread16:17
Kumoolthe16:17
