IrcsomeBot<Barika> hey guys trying to setup meta+enter(to launch konsole) which used to work before i reloaded the OS. It will not save as a shortcut key for some reason.00:17
IrcsomeBot<Barika> I have even tried launching from edit application settings with Meta+Enter and nothing is taking the settings.01:01
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Barika, I think you discovered a bug.  I am not able to assign meta+enter to launch krunner either.01:09
IrcsomeBot<Barika> Hmmmm I used to work on Arch Linux02:01
IrcsomeBot<Barika> It worked up to yesterday with the latest and greatest installed on Arch Linux.02:02
IrcsomeBot<Barika> Just not in Kubuntu that I switched to now.02:02
IrcsomeBot<Barika> Titlebar action to double click to Maximize is also not working.03:01
tugapowerIts KDE Connect working to navigate the files phone ? For me its not working03:24
IrcsomeBot<Barika> Looks like a reboot fixed the titlebar issue. But not the konsole issue being lauched via Meta+Enter03:27
IrcsomeBot<Barika> I had to create a custom keyboard shortcut to get konsole to launch with Meta+Enter but got it resolved.03:43

DakeizHello everyone. I installed Kubuntu yesterday on my desktop PC. I'm trying to make KDE Connect work but the devices don't seem to detect each others. I've already made a successful setup with my laptop, but it's a different story with my desktop. I'd be glad to give you any information you might need. Thank you and have a nice weekend :)09:13
DakeizSorry I got disconnected and it was a hassle to reconnect. If someone wrote me a response, could you send it again?09:21
virtualdno one responded09:26
franzpow_I was wondering.. What happens if I change my Amd radeon with another nvidia gpu that I have? Will kubuntu detect automatically the new gpu?09:27
virtualddoes kde connect give you any error message?09:27
virtualdDakeiz: ^09:27
Dakeizvirtuald, no I have no error message. The devices just don't show in the list.09:28
DakeizMy desktop is connected via ethernet, and phone via WiFi.09:28
virtualdcan you ping your phone from the pc?09:29
=== kubuntu is now known as Guest46966
=== Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life
Dakeizvirtuald, Yup, without any problem. Ping is a tad bit high, but everything was received.09:30
DakeizI have tried many things. Including checking the status of ufw (which is disabled), adding exceptions to iptables but nothing has solved the issue. Should I have reboot my PC after adding the exceptions to iptables?09:33
virtualdprobably not but how did you add them?09:34
DakeizIn Konsole: sudo iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 1714:1764 -j ACCEPT09:35
DakeizAnd a second one by replacing "tcp" by "udp".09:35
franzpowHi. I was wondering.. If I change my radeon gpu with another card (Nvidia) that I have in this pc, will kubuntu set it properly automatically?09:37
franzpowI mean removing this amd radeon gpu and installing the nvidia one. Will I need to reinstall drivers?09:38
virtualdi don't know how kde connect works but what i would do is to run tcpdump or wireshark to see what happens when trying to connect09:38
virtualdfranzpow: it will work and you'll probably be prompted to install better drivers09:42
virtuald(don't shoot me if it doesn't)09:42
virtualdDakeiz: on https://community.kde.org/KDEConnect it says "The daemon communicates with various UI components (Plasmoid, CLI, Indicator etc.) over DBus. QDbusViewer allows inspecting the DBus interface provided by the daemon which can be incredibly useful for debugging.09:43
virtuald" have you tried that?09:43
DakeizHold on, just have to reboot real quick.09:47
DakeizHow exactly do I run QDbusViewer, virtuald?09:51
virtualdi installed the qttools5-dev-tools package and ran /usr/lib/qt5/bin/qdbusviewer09:53
virtualdi have no idea how to get anything useful out of the things it shows09:54
DakeizI think it's mostly a tool used by developers.09:56
virtualdyes09:56
DakeizI'm not sure how I should go about solving this problem...09:59
DakeizI guess it would make things easier if I could speak with a KDE Connect contributor directly.10:00
virtualdyes i've been trying to get a hold of someone too but haven't found any yet10:01
virtualdthey have a telegram group or something apparently (just found out)10:02
DakeizBy the way, I've noticed that on many distros, the access rights are very unrestrictive. Would you recommend setting them to 770 or 750 instead of 755?10:09
RikMillsDakeiz: #kdeconnect10:09
DakeizAh thank you Rikmills, I'll try over there!10:10
RikMillsthat IRC channel should be bridged to telegram as well10:11

IrcsomeBot<vasdjs> Hi I downloaded and installed the beta to help with testing. Can anybody help with advice on how to update as new versions come out? The guidance in the kubuntu.org news is a bit confusing asI haven't done this before. loving it so far10:29
N1k0nPIrcsomeBot, you mean stable release?10:30
IrcsomeBot<vasdjs> The beta release of Kubuntu 20.0410:35
N1k0nPIrcsomeBot, i think it just "apt update && apt full-upgrade" then uncheck pre-release updates in "software sources" is you want stay on stable10:35
IrcsomeBot<vasdjs> OK ta. Didn't understand the guidance on zsync10:36

IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Still here Nick?16:51
WausauBillI downloaded the Kubuntu 20.04 beta and have it on a USB, went to install it on an old Windows 7 machine I have, but the installer is not recognizing there is already an operating system on the disk, anyone else seeing this?17:02
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Does it show an empty hard drive?17:07
WausauBillIt the only guided option it shows is using the entire hard drive, yes17:09
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Strange. I do not have a window system to test, but on the several linux boxes where I tested the install, it correctly detected all partitions and proposed several install options.17:10
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Oh wait.... You may to boot to windows and do a complete shutdown.... forget what it's called.... googling...17:11
IrcsomeBot<prathamesh_d> @DarinMiller, disabling fast startup, it locks the ntfs drives from R/W17:12
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Ah yes... this link seems to cover the start up/shut down for win10... not sure if it applies to win7: https://superuser.com/questions/1152001/shutdown-windows-10-truly-for-a-dual-booting-system17:14
WausauBillI'll take a look at that in the boot manager and see what I find, I did reboot from a complete power down, but windows has been known not to play nice with other system installs17:16

franzpow_I installed my nvidia card and I felt the desktop too slow. I installed this nvidia card instead of my old radeon. I installed via "sudo apt install" nvidia-driver-435 and rebooted. Now I am stuck on loading screen and I am not able to start kububtu17:43
franzpow_I get stuck on kubuntu logo and if I press esc I get: [ok] stopped plymouth17:47
franzpow_I am now rebooting after trying to boot kubuntu on liquorix recovery mode via grub17:47
franzpow_Because I was not able to enter in the os17:48
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Are you able to use ctrl-alt-f2 to drop to command line?17:49
franzpow_I am still trying to reboot17:49
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Which nvidia card? I suspect the wrong driver was chosen.17:49
franzpow_I will let you know17:50
franzpow_Gt71017:50
franzpow_Nvidia17:50
franzpow_At first start it recognised the card well on neofetch and I was even able to see the temperature but it was slow also in gaming17:51
franzpow_Now I am rebooting and it is stopping the services before rebooting so it is taking a while17:51
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Oh yeah.  I think that's  older and gt710 is not supported by the 435 driver.  I think you need the nvidia-340.... checking on google...17:51
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> try ctrl-alt-f2 during the boot process.17:52
franzpow_Oh sh** I will give me some minutes to reboot, thanks17:52
franzpow_DarinMiller: sorry I was disconnected17:53

IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> were you able to reach a command prompt using ctrl-at-f2 ?17:58
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It's stuck on reboot. It says [OK] Reached target Reboot17:58
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok it's rebooting17:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Now in a while should appear kubuntu logo17:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok I am in tty2 terminal18:00
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> to speed up hangs on reboot use alt-<print screen>reisub  (hold down the alt key while pressing the other keys).18:00
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> sudo apt purge nvidia*18:00
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> login first^18:00
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am logged in. I Am executing the comman18:01
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Should I write nvidia-driver-435?18:01
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> you can but nvidia* will include it...18:02
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok I am doing it18:02
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It's doing nothing for now18:03
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> back at the prompt?18:03
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> or stuck purging?18:03
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Nope there is the underscore flashing18:04
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Like it's executing the command18:04
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> you typed "sudo apt purge nvidia*" and it stopped at flashing "_"?18:04
mtrhi everyone18:04
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> The "_" is flashing but it's like nothing is happening18:05
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> But the pc is not stuck. Maybe the command is18:06
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> type ctrl -c18:06
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> then reissue: sudo apt purge nvidia*18:07
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ctrl -c does nothing18:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It should stop the command..18:10
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> When you ran sudo apt purge nvidia*, what happened after you entered your password?18:12
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Did any text scroll by?18:12
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It didn't asked me for password18:12
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> The "_" started flashing and nothing more18:13
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> (i am logged in)18:13
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> hmmm, do the  alt-<print screen>reisub  to reboot....18:14
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> What is reisub?18:14

IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Wow what a cool command!!18:16
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I rebooted18:16
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Now I am in the grub18:16
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> What shoukd I do? Trying again with tt2?18:16
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> yes18:17
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok I am in18:18
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> OK try ls -al as a basic command18:19
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I also get a strange line: reg 0x30, usbctrl_vendorreq Timeout! Status:0xffffff92 value 0x4418:19
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> After loggin in tty218:19
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ls -al is working18:20
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Also neofetch is working18:20
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> very good.18:20
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> now try: sudo apt purge nvidia*18:20
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok now it is going18:21
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> 👍18:21
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It's working18:21
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> After that? Should I install the other driver via tty2?18:21
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Sudo apt surge nvidia* has finjshed18:23
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> I recommend booting into the desktop, open sys. setting, and select driver manager.  *buntu distros are fairly good at recommending the correct/best nvdia driver.18:24
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok I am rebooting now … How can I open the sys.setting?18:25
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> System Settings from the menu, or use krunner to launch alt-f2 then type system settings18:26
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It's now entering kubuntu18:30
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am in the desktop and waiting the driver manager18:33
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It says gathering info on your system18:33
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> it takes a few minutes sometimes especially on older hw.18:33
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Which version of kubuntu?18:34
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> 19.1018:34
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Still gathering info?18:38
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Yep..18:45
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I don't think it will go further. What should I do?18:47
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> If I run ubuntu-drivers devices, it says that the 435 version is recomended..18:54
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> But it was not the right driver. What should I install?18:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I tried to install nvidia-driver-390 and it gave me an error19:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It failed and gave me the same error19:13
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Someone could help?19:13
leaftypeI don't think i can, but I can listen. What was the error?19:15
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ehm I don't know because I removed the driver19:17
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I was not able to enter in the desktop19:17
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> With the 390 driver19:17
leaftypewhy are you installing 390 when you said ubuntu-drivers recommended 435?19:17
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Same error as before19:17
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Because 435 driver did not helped19:18
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> And I was not able to enter in the desktop19:18
leaftype you're on irc on a separate computer I take it?19:18
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am on my phone right now19:19
leaftypegotcha. On your computer, you can't log into the desktop? Or do graphics never load?19:19
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I will clarify the situation19:20
leaftypethanks19:20
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I installed the 435 driver and rebooted. I couldn't access to my desktop anymore. … I ran sudo apt surge nvidia* from tty2 terminal and I was able again to enter in my desktop. … Trying to use driver manager inside kubuntu but it did not work so I tried to install 390 driver (the oldest available) and I was in the same situation of before19:21
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> So I sudo apt purge nvidia again and here we are19:22
leaftypewhich card do you have?19:23
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Nvidia gt71019:23
leaftypeso the problem with the open source drivers for you (which loaded a desktop ok) is that you want more performance?19:25
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Yes. I have a lagging desktop and poor 3d performance with  open source drivers19:25
leaftypegotcha19:25
leaftypeand what method were you using to install the closed-source drivers?19:26
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Not so laggy desktop but.. I installed this card instead of my old radeon because it was in another pc and this one is better19:26
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @leaftype, First I tried with terminal19:26
leaftypewith what command?19:26
leaftype(sorry, this is how I understand things, going pedantic and looking things up)19:27
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> But second time I ran software and updates from Ubuntu (I had ubuntu installed here instead of kubuntu) and selected other drivers and installed 390 driver19:27
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I ran sudo apt install nvidia-driver-435 the first time19:27
leaftypethanks19:28
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I don't know what it should be. The 390 driver should have been installed without problems. Maybe I should retry via terminal..19:30
leaftypeI mean, to me this sounds like ther eis a problem with the driver itself on yoru system. It's worth trying again, but if you didn't change something it "should" do the same thing19:31
leaftypenvidia itself recommends the 440 branch19:32
leaftypehttps://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/157462/en-us19:32
leaftypethat's their "long-lived" branch, for theoretically more stability19:33
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Mmm but I have just 390- 430-435/19:33
leaftype435.21 is their 'short-lived" branch19:33
leaftypehttps://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/150803/en-us19:33
leaftypeyou COULD try installing straight from there19:34
leaftypeWeirdly, I don't see limits on version. I would expect something like "for ubuntu 18.04", but it just says "64 bit linux"19:34
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @leaftype, Ok but how to install this? Is a .run file19:35
leaftypenever used a .run file?19:35
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Just open it?19:35
leaftypeafter you set permissions on it, you run it via command line19:35
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Maybe sometime? I don't remember19:35
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Should I have to compile it?19:35
leaftypenope19:35
leaftype:)19:36
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Oh good19:36
leaftypeYou don't technically NEED to run it via command line, but they usually expect it and sometimes have questions/notes of what it's doing19:36
leaftypePersonally I don't like it, but that's what the company itself is pushing19:36
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok I am downloading it, almost finished19:36
leaftypesometimes it works19:36
leaftypealso, a lot of times I've heard of updates to the kernal (or os in general, etc) ruining proprietary drivers.19:37
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> oh that's bad19:37
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> should it be that I run liquorix19:37
leaftypeIf it was open source, their code would update at the same time as the kernal19:37
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> instead of linux kernel?19:37
leaftypeI... have never heard of liquorix19:38
leaftypeif it's replacing hte kernal, that could absolutely be it19:38
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> that is a realtime kernel19:39
leaftypedrivers work with the kernal to do anything with the hardware19:39
leaftypeso yeah, if you change the kernal, the driver might not get back what it's expecting19:39
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I can't open the .run file19:40
leaftypedid you set permissoins on it to "execute"?19:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I drag and drop the .run in the terminao19:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> terminal19:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> sudo.. but is says command not found19:40
leaftypeIt's a program, so it's always considerd unsafe (by default) to run those19:40
leaftyperight click the program19:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> ok19:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I was stupid19:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I've done it19:41
leaftypealright :)19:41
leaftypeHope it works. I'm like 10% confident19:41
leaftypeI've had problems with nvidia drivers specifically on my last system19:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> it says I must deactivate first nvidia nouveau19:42
leaftypeis it donig it for you?19:42
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> before proceeding with installation19:42
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> nope...19:42
leaftypethat makes sense to me. Nouveau is the open source drivers that were alright working19:42
leaftypeYou don't want two drivers trying to work at the same time19:42
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> mmmm.. so? I found on internet instructions19:43
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> but I am afraid of doing something wrong19:43
leaftypea good fear to have19:43
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> ahaah yes19:43
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I broke this system so many times19:43
leaftypemmm, fun times19:43
leaftypeIt's really useful to have a second hard drive that has all your informatoin on it19:44
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I have dual boot here19:44
leaftypeGot one with backups of steam games, videos, music, etc for my system19:44
leaftypeDuel boot is good, but won't protect you from everything (just a lot of things)19:44
leaftypelike clickign the wrong button19:44
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> btw nvidia is saying that for some distributions Nouveau can be disabled by adding a file in the modprobe configuration directory19:45
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> andf it can do it for me19:45
leaftypei recommend writing down what it's doing in case you come back to this, then letting them do their thing19:45
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> ok so I just pray nvidia to install my drivers?19:46
leaftypeTheir programmers are smarter than I am, so yeah19:46
leaftypeFor how to remove Nouveau (if that doesn't work) : https://tutorials.technology/tutorials/85-How-to-remove-Nouveau-kernel-driver-Nvidia-install-error.html19:48
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> ok but after I removed that it says I should reboot and try again to reinstall drivers19:49
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> @Franzpow, Did you try the nvidia-340 driver?19:49
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> would it means that I will not have my desktop and install it via tty2?19:49
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @DarinMiller, I have 390 drivers in the repos19:50
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> I have seen the driver install utility mistake older cards and recommend new versions.  sudo apt install nvidia-34019:50
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> wait so now I should delete these 2 files19:50
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> the modprobe files19:50
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> that nvidia created for me19:51
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Sorry, I was away for awhile.... what files?19:51
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @Franzpow, these files19:52
leaftypeDarinMiller: I had him download the driver from Nvidia itself19:53
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> oh yes, you can delete those files.19:53
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> for now I deleted the files19:53
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am installing. I did not find it because it is listed differently19:54
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> any errors running sudo apt install nvidia-340 driver19:54
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> it is not called nvidia-34019:54
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> *nvidia-driver-34019:54
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> like nvidia-driver43519:55
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> sry, that's the name in 20.04...19:55
leaftype20.04? that's not even out yet...19:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I did sudo apt install nvidia-34019:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am installing19:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> oh!19:56

IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> that's the problem19:56
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> maybe19:56
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> should I try to boot it with linux 5 kernel via grub?19:56
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> oh, yes.  NVidia stopped supporting older hw on kernels newer than 5.4.19:56
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> wow.19:57
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> so I should not upgrade to 20.04?19:57
leaftypelol, that sounds like Nvidia19:57
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> is there a way to boot automatically with linux kernel and not liquorix? I don't know how to do that19:58
leaftypebtw, looking at the 340 driver... it doesn't say it supports the gt71019:58
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> unless every time I select it manually via advanced boot options in the grub19:58
leaftypegt720 and above19:58
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> So you have 3 options: stick with nouveau drivers, downgrade to linux 5.4 kernerl, or upgrade the video card.19:58
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> for now maybe I have just the older kernel installed alongside the new liquorix kernel19:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> because I switched to liquorix before upgrading... I am trying to reboot with the linux kernel19:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok I confirm that I have Linux 5.3.0-45 installed20:01
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Trying to boot with that kernel20:01
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok it worked. Now.. How to make kernel 5.3.0 my default choice?20:04
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Hold on, leaftype may correct, I think I mis-identified your card. (we may need to sudo apt purge nvidia* again....)20:07
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Yep.. I am into desktop but weird things are happening20:07
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Like system settings is crashing20:07
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Etc..20:08
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> But I can still use it20:08
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Even discover is crashing20:08
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> uh yeah, purge nvidia again... but now the question is which driver to install...20:08
leaftypewell that's weird too20:08
leaftypenvidia recommends either 440 (for stability) or 435 (for enthusiasts)20:08
leaftypeit tha thelps20:09
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> If the issue was in liquorix kernel... i mean20:09
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Maybe I should install 435 provided by repo20:09
leaftypethat's a good first start IMO20:09
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> yes, definitely could be kernel conflicts...20:09
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok so sudo apt purge nvidia*20:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> ?20:10
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> yes20:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> After I just reboot?20:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> And try sudo apt install nvidia-driver-435?20:10
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> no, purge 1st then reboot.20:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Yeah I wrote it so bad. I was meaning: purge first and after that reboot20:11
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> sure, try to install 435 before rebooting.  We know how to recover if it fails...20:12
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I just have rebooted.. I will install 435 after starting up20:13
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok now I am trying to install nvidia -43520:15
leaftypewish me luck btw, I'm about to see if my radeon 590 still freezes and turns everything green/purple under load20:16
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Good luck20:16
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> We all need it20:16
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> 👌20:16
leaftype2and the answer to that is... its still broken20:21
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> dang.  Which kubuntu version?20:22
leaftype2I have confidence though in 5 years this will all be fixed...20:22
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> lol20:22
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Francesco, did we lose you?20:26
leaftype2I wonder if I'd have the same crashes if I used the integrated gpu...20:30
leaftype2I mean, it is pretty beafy for an igpu20:30
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> one way to find out.... :)20:31
kubuntu2020Hi20:31
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> hey20:33
kubuntu2020I would like to know if intel i5 4th gen is enough for kubuntu20:34
kubuntu2020ssd20:35
leaftypeAlright... so 1/4 the fps, but no crash20:36
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> kubuntu2020, how much RAM?  i5 4th gen should be fine as long as you have at least 2G (preferably 4G or more).20:38
kubuntu20208GB20:39
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Test it with a live usb, it should work very well.20:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am still here Darin20:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I installed driver 43520:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> now I will reboot20:41
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> very good.20:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> cpu is at 82%20:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> systemd-udev is taking 40% of resources.20:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Should I have to do something before rebooting?20:41
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> as long as the install completes you should be good to go.20:42
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> it said it finished20:42
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> but how to check it?20:42
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> did you install from the terminal or driver manager?20:43
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> terminal20:44
kubuntu2020What's different between Kubuntu and Netrunner ?20:46
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> once the terminal prompt returns, you are good to go.20:46
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> the fact is that the command finished long ago20:47
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> I have never run net runner. But, both Kubuntu and NR are debian based.20:47
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Looks like NR is a rolling distro. So if you like if you like auto upgrading to latest sw, then it might be a good option.  Since I have never run, I cannot vouch for it's stability.20:49
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> However, I say kubuntu is quite stable even with backports installed which is similar to a "rolling release" for the KDE packages...20:50
kubuntu2020Kubuntu is stable ?20:53
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> In my experience, yes,  very stable.20:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @DarinMiller I rebooted20:55
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> and ?20:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> And now I see the fonts veeery lite20:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Little*20:55
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> And I can't understand nothing lol20:55
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Small fonts?  you may need to force dpi in under fonts in System Settings.20:56
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> 4k screen?20:57
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Nope a television20:57
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> With 1368x76820:57
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Oh, that's painful.20:57
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> How to fix this?20:58
kubuntu2020I would like to switch to linux from windows20:59
kubuntu2020Thanks20:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ah I set the character size20:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> In system settings20:59
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It was set to 1020:59
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Use the force DPI option as the bottom to scale all fonts (or use scale option in the Display and Monitor section)21:01
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> kubuntu2020, do you know how to make a live usb?21:01
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Forcing dpi changed nothing21:01
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> it only take effect after restarting plasma and the any windows that are already open.21:03
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> so close all windows, and reopen them.21:03
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> to restart plasma:  plasmashell —replace &21:04
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> or log out log in.21:04
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Scaling to x 1.1 had some effects21:05
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> But something is smaller.. Something not..21:05
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Scaled at 1x1 is too big21:07
=== theMetamorphosis is now known as Metamorphosis
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> With a 13x7 TV I would guess you would want to shrink things...21:09
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Yes but fonts are still too little..21:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Small*21:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Oh wait21:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Foce dpi solved ot21:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> It21:10
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> very good :)21:10
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Remember, font scaling affect every thing, but is visible until the respective apps and plasma are restarted.21:11
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> kbuntu2002, use https://www.balena.io/etcher/ to create bootable USB from the kubuntu ISO https://kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/21:13
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> @DarinMiller, is not visible ^21:13
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Why when I close the session it is still too small?21:15
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> But I solved the situation in the desktop21:15
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> restart plasma from a terminal or krunner:  plasmashell —replace &21:17
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> double dash^21:17
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> I need run for a bit (be back in 45min or so...)21:18
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Ok. Thank you so much!21:18
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> np.21:19
