[12:28] how did it go on jitsi last night? [12:29] couldn't join, was in the middle of making dinner and last time I joined during that it was a bit strange [12:31] Good morning. I have nothing else valuable to contribute other than that right now. [12:31] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XLZ4Z8LpEE&t=116 except maybe that. [12:32] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MikoF6KZjm0 or that [13:07] morning [13:07] It went well. Had three people on besides myself [13:30] cool [13:30] how was jitsi? is it a web based thing? [13:40] Jitsi has desktop/mobile/web clients. https://meet.jit.si is the web one. I've used it and it works great, but I didn't have many users. [13:40] In any case, it's certainly better than Zoom. [13:54] The desktop stuff is deprecated [13:55] they're relying on WebRTC now [13:55] and SIP for phone connectivity for conferences [13:55] It works really well. [13:55] I self-hosted this last meeting and had a Linode instance handle four users without trouble [13:55] 4 cores, though. :) [13:55] I could have probably done it with less [13:58] Maybe, but the Android client just got an update :D [14:00] Though I have a theory that things which require internet access don't really need an app and should be able to run in the browser. Also, things for offline use should require an app (like office, single player games, etc...) [14:01] It seems like with phones everyone wants to make an app to suck data from the user or sell it and suck data from the user. [14:01] I think the main issue with Jitsi mobile is CPU performance [14:01] I think you could crush a mobile phone with full-on WebRTC [14:02] and Safari on iOS probably works slightly worse than Safari on MacOS [14:02] At first I was skeptical, but I think they have a good reason for it [14:02] Anything on mobile is going to work worse than anything on a legitimate desktop. [14:02] Indeed [14:02] More explanation than Absolution. [14:03] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijpQcd4FS8k [14:03] That was the meeting we ran on meet.jit.si with OBS doing the streaming [14:04] OBS is great [14:04] in part because meet.jit.si's jibri instances are all busy recording or streaming for other folks [14:04] I haven't really gotten into it much though. [14:04] Yeah, OBS is solid software [14:04] I'm working on getting my own audio stream up so I can pipe it into my Discord bot rather than just playing through my own voice channel. [14:05] Not that I love Disocrd, but it is an okay option for now. [14:05] (When it's not randomly crashing) [14:06] (which is often enough to be annoying, but not so often that I uninstall it) [14:08] I haven't used Discord ouside of the web client [14:08] and even then it's not my favorite. [14:11] i like it. it is fast [14:12] No doubt there, but I find myself marking things read more often than not [14:12] Definitely not great for the FOMO [14:14] I mute a lot of servers. [14:14] and ignore a lot of things. [14:14] yeah [14:14] I'm on some servers that are no longer sparking joy [14:14] I deleted a few but I think I need to remove some more [14:15] Yeah, leaving is always an option. I have some I should just axe too. [14:15] There is a Discord Linux one if you want though https://discord.gg/discord-linux [14:19] What's the main advantage of that outside of better voice? [14:20] It crashes randomly on you? XD [14:20] You've sold me
