HenryGI am trying 18.04 to see if this is a VirtualBox issue00:00
Unit193VBox might not like new ones.  I'd mention you can try Core, but I've heard some having issues with that one VBox too.00:01
tomreyncould it be anti virus / malware related?00:04
HenryGSo 18.04.4 installed fine00:05
HenryGAfter poking around in the VBox forums, it seems that VBox is pretty awful with AMD + Hyper-V (needed for WSL2). I am going to ditch VBox for now and install 20.04 natively on a secondary older PC that I will bring out of retirement.00:14

spotraciteHey I have a question about the install process for Xubuntu 20.0407:12
spotraciteI know in earlier ISO images there was a button I could push that would toggle between a 'minimal07:12
spotraciteand a 'full' install07:13
spotraciteWhen I tested 20.04 in VirtualBox, it didn't give me such an option07:13
spotraciteIs there an equivalent?07:13
spotraciteShould I just go back to Xubuntu 19.04 or 19.10?07:16
miu5Hi,  if you backup the ~/.config/xfce4 folder, do the yellow notes (in panel) also get backed up as well? or is there another folder for those?08:22
brainwashmiu5: https://docs.xfce.org/panel-plugins/xfce4-notes-plugin#usage08:25
brainwashcould be outdated though08:25
miu5ah thanks.. its under .local/share08:27
miu5Also, another question.   I you backup the ~/.config/xfce4 folder from Xubuntu and reload it on Ubuntu Server with Xfce4 environment, would you get the same panels?  I tried it and it seems like its a bit messed up.08:28
brainwashdid you copy the files over before starting the session?08:32
brainwashand xubuntu installs some extra panel plugins08:33
brainwashthose would be missing in the stock Xfce installation08:33
brainwashwhiskermenu for example08:33
miu5no, i copied them over while in the session, but then rebooted. most of the stuff was there. except the whisker menu icon turned into a no entry sign, and also the window manager borders got messed up.08:35
miu5yea also, i see the difference between the 2 preference panels is that in Xubuntu you can back & restore the panels whereas xfce4 doesnt have that button.08:35
KrockHello everyone. How do I upgrade from Bionic to Focal? https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/9Pn2HbgtkQ/ - IIRC this worked for upgrading to Bionic.. two years ago.10:02
KrockUsing the "Debian way" from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upgrades results in a massive count of new packages (2 GiB or so). Is that expected?10:03
diogenes_!upgrade | Krock10:03
ubottuKrock: For upgrading, see the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes - see also http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/upgrade10:03

brainwashfor bionic -> focal10:04
brainwashand yes, a release upgrade will download and install many new package versions10:04
Krockthanks brainwash10:19

JuJUBeeI am trying to get my laptop to completely blank the screen  after 20 min rather than a screensaver.  I have tried everything, but there is still backlight and a slight glow to the screen.19:51
JuJUBeeI have switch off set to 25 min in Xfce power manager.19:54
diogenes_JuJUBee, you could try with xorg dpms.20:17
tigerdogI installed Xubuntu 20.04 without updates during the install.  When the system started gnome-software was present.  When I ran updates, though, it was uninstalled in favor of the "snap store".20:32
tigerdogthat's cool, but gnome-software also queries LVFS for device firmware updates (and it actually found FW than needed to be updated!)  KDE Discoverer has something similar.  What is Xubuntu's equivalent tool for LVFS firmware updates?20:34
xu-irc13wnot that this is a big deal and might seem like a silly question but is there a way to get rid of this tip on the screen about livepatch everytime i do software update and it finishes?23:34
xu-irc13wlike i dont need to be reminded about it all the time heh23:34
xu-irc13w20.04 seemed to add this23:35
xu-irc13wi really wats just curious23:35
Unit193Perhaps in software-properties you can, I do not know.23:37
xu-irc13wah ok like i said no biggie it's just weird that they added that to the dialog box23:38
xu-irc13wi mean hell most times updating doesnt even need for me to restart anyway23:38
xu-irc13wdoing it manually23:38
