[00:00] I'm logged in qith lxqt not lubuntu-desktop... [00:01] yeah well we also don't spend a lot of time making sure lxqt works without lubuntu [00:04] wxl: ah.. okay.. brb.. going to log out and switch. [00:04] well it works in lxqt anyways [00:14] wxl: no joy. I'll go dig about my install history, and reinstall. But thanks for your help. [00:15] user44: sorry :( === housecat is now known as dax [01:11] wxl: no surprise. reinstall and it working :) [01:11] blew install away, and reinstalled. === TheMetamorphosis is now known as Metamorphosis [05:26] Where is "switch user" option? To short time switching in GUI? I don't mean "su" via terminal. It was in prev.Lubuntu [08:02] (Photo, 1280x720) https://i.imgur.com/Gr0FCu2.jpg Can someone help me out? [08:04] @BhuvanTeja98 that looks like a GNOME error screen, not a Lubuntu one [08:05] I was upgrading it to 20.04. it went low on battery. But the screen went off. I put it on charge but the screen didn't turn back on... When I restarted the system, I was getting different errors. [08:09] was OS/release were you using? [08:17] 19.10 [08:19] @BhuvanTeja98, if release-upgrade was taking place, I'd not have attempted to login via GUI until it completes. I'd have opted to treat as a power failure, boot 'live' system and `fsck` (file system check) your disks, when okay boot and login to terminal only, check sources (pointing to focal or 20.04), then attempt `sudo apt full-upgrade` to see if it'll continue upgrade process. [08:20] If/when that completed, I'd have `sudo apt update` to check for normal completion, then `sudo apt full-upgrade` again, if nothing found - then reboot & try system normally. [08:21] (Photo, 1280x720) https://i.imgur.com/MqiGxf3.jpg [08:25] I went into recovery mode and then did dpkg for repairing broken packages and this happened [08:26] (Photo, 720x1280) https://i.imgur.com/qeUyeKR.jpg What should I do now? [08:29] sorry I currently can't help. but i'm unsure of what you've done. my fallback should upgrade fail because of power outage etc is always a re-install (manual partitioning, re-use existing partitions without format) though that's more complex if encryption is involved (usually I go clean in that case & restore my user data from backups) [08:32] @guiverc [ sorry I currently can't help. but i'm unsure of what you've done. my f …], Thank you for ur help... I have been using Lubuntu since 2017 but I'm still a beginner... So I don't exactly know what to do... [08:35] If you're patient someone else maybe able to help.. I wouldn't hurry to try and change things (release-upgrade can take many hours... up to most of a day, depending on hardware & speed of internet; so give your box/laptop time to work.. [19:08] The mouse blocked not repsonding anymore, keyboard not responding anymore, if anyone have any suggestion about the freeze? [19:09] intel graphics? I saw some people hit regressions with i915. [19:10] Hill Ma: Yes Intel. [19:11] I think you are right it could very well be because of the intel graphics drivers. I had a problem like that on another intel graphic machine. Though this one is older but still Intel. [19:14] If you are interested https://01.org/linuxgraphics/documentation/how-report-bugs there’s lots of reports already maybe check if it is a known issue [19:16] Hill Ma: Ok, ty. [20:30] hello, where can i find command lines to upgrade lubuntu to 20.04? ive been using lubuntu/linux for 24 hours now [20:31] '=D [20:33] Didnt know that 20.04 was released. ty [20:36] I just saw the comments on the release note of the version [20:37] And some says about the upgrade that its a bit messy to do it [20:37] And its suggested do a fresh instalation [20:38] https://lubuntu.me/focal-released/ [20:50] yeah, if you're on 18.04 (or earlier) you want to do a new install [20:50] as far as i know, 19.10 -> 20.04 should be okay [20:52] Yes, i found that the problem are the desktops enviroments problems [20:53] What about the bugs in new version? [20:53] Im going to install it === ubuntu is now known as eddied453 [22:09] Hello [22:09] I installed this thing [22:09] I found one "bug" during instalation, but its easy to solve [22:10] Before on 18.04 i didnt need to make a UEFI partition for boot [22:10] But when i tried to make it on 20.04 it needs one "flag" called "esp" [22:10] The named flag is instead "boot", and the UEFI partition should be FAT32 [22:10] Hope it helps someone [22:10] if you don't do manual partitioning then it does it for you [22:11] Yes [22:11] I didnt tried it because i have windows too [22:12] I think that im not the only one in that case [22:30] Is possible to Install Synaptic package manager on 20.04 or i can use only muon? [22:42] Munsko: i mean they're essentially the same thing with a different toolkit, but you can do what you want. you just add the extra overhead of a bunch of unnecessary gtk libraries. [22:44] So Synaptic is something linked to a desktop enviroment like other some programs? [22:44] not exactly, no [22:45] but lxqt uses the qt toolkit and most of the programs we have chosen use it as well [22:45] this is also true with kubuntu [22:45] (and kde) [22:45] everything else mostly uses gtk and in some cases (i think of ubuntu proper here) they just use gtk and qt willy nilly and don't even care one way or another [22:46] but in the case of muon and synaptic they are both front ends to apt/dpkg which the same ultimate functonality, so i don't think synaptic is going to provide you any benefit [22:46] Well, but i understand that i will have some problems [22:46] you won't have problems. you're just adding extra stuff. [22:46] without getting any real value out of it. [22:47] i mean if you wanted, you could install all of the desktop environments available on top of lubuntu. it would be silly. but you could do it. [22:47] Munsko, I have synaptic installed on my system, the cost is there (memory wasted etc) - https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/synaptic s it does require GTK3 you'll note [22:47] it wouldn't necessarily cause you problems. it might be confusing, though [22:47] My problem is that i dont understand the filter thing of muon [22:48] what are you trying to do? [22:48] And i was very nice with synaptic [22:48] Well i tried to search wine [22:48] and nothing appears [22:48] but when i search manually [22:48] It is there [22:48] Happened me too with anothe rpackage [22:48] let me see if i can reproduce this [22:49] again it would be very weird, because both programs are frontends to apt/dpkg [22:49] Yes [22:49] in the end they're both just doing `apt-cache search wine` [22:49] As i saw that thing i thought that was bugged of smth [22:49] because "wine" exists in the list [22:49] I tried it again and no results [22:50] i cannot reproduce [22:50] i see all kinds of results for "wine" [22:52] you did a fresh install of 20.04. did you skip the integrity check at the boot screen of the installer by chance? [22:53] Hmm [22:53] I installed it and no message like that appeared [22:54] What seems to me strange was that in 18.04 i was able to install without enter in the livecd [22:54] if you didn't notice it then it probably ran [22:54] I mean, without seeing the desktop enviroment and all those things [22:54] yep, different installer [22:54] It forced me to enter there before instal [22:54] I have that problem that i mentioned with the UEFI [22:54] but after that looks fine [22:54] that's not really a problem per se [22:54] did you check the hashes of the downloaded iso [22:55] ? [22:55] nope [22:55] but should it not be installed correctly if that doesnt correct? [22:55] I mean, is very unprobable that the only problem should be the cache thing [22:55] yeah well i guess it's remotely possible you had a download error and either accidentially skipped the integrity check or had a fail on the integrity check but continued anyways [22:55] if either of those were the case, you could have a faulty install [22:56] Yes, but nothing happened [22:56] I formated the linux partitions [22:56] muon's not working, but it works here [22:56] so something happened :) [22:56] Yes [22:56] I know that [22:56] Im check where i can found that cache thing [22:56] i don't know what you're talking about with regards to cache. cache of what? [22:58] You said upper that the operation of search in the muon package manager was something like [22:58] I cant find the mssg [22:58] apt-cache search wine` [22:58] Something like that [22:59] it's not that [22:59] Well [22:59] it's something else [22:59] I tried something more [22:59] go run it in terminal and see what happens [22:59] i put 2048 n the bar [22:59] and the game is there [22:59] It comes installed with the so [22:59] sure does [22:59] the search should also return gnome-2048 which is not installed [23:00] Only i result there [23:00] the qt version [23:01] firefox is too there [23:01] then there's something wrong with your system [23:01] When i installed i do it without internet connection [23:01] maybe the problem is there [23:01] quite possibly [23:01] -.- [23:02] So i should delete all and start again, right? [23:02] you should plug it in [23:02] the package manager is always going to use the internet [23:02] Ok [23:02] Yes [23:02] but im conected now [23:02] and updated the list [23:02] Only during instalation was discc [23:02] with "check for updates?" [23:03] y [23:03] it works well [23:03] But the problem is still there [23:05] Munsko: You currently have an active Internet connection? [23:05] Yes [23:05] Im on internet now [23:06] From the pc [23:06] here [23:06] Ok [23:06] Just wanted to make sure [23:06] I clicked full upgrade and something is installing now [23:06] Hope that works [23:07] nope [23:07] Well, i need something more [23:07] Is necesary to delete the partition root and /home only? [23:07] Dont need to delete swap and uefi again? === lubuntu is now known as Guest99739 [23:21] Well [23:21] Im inside the thing [23:21] And now the only thing that changed was that when i connected to internet the setup detected y language and my keyboard automatically [23:22] But theres no one option of cache or something like that [23:33] Well [23:33] Now works [23:33] Looks something stupid, but that detail didnt allow me to do that [23:33] Thanks for the help, really [23:41] not sure what we did but glad it's all fied XD [23:41] fixed [23:42] The step where i conected to internet maybe solved the problem [23:44] probably
