rasmalabarHi, I am trying to get SCIM working in Xubuntu. I have installed scim (and its dependencies) as well as scim-modules-table (which has the input method that I want to use). A keyboard icon shows up in the notification area and I can access SCIM setup. However (a) the Ctrl+Space shortcut does not work (b) I cannot figure out how to switch between input methods. Please advise...09:39
brainwashrasmalabar: is scim configured to use that keyboard shortcut? also, is the shortcut not defined in Xfce?10:52
brainwashalternative would be IBus which uses super+space10:54
rasmalabar@brainwash SCIM is configured to use Ctrl+Space (which is its default shorctu). The shortcut is not configured in Xfce (I have checked Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts)10:54
rasmalabarGTK_IM_MODULE is set as scim-bridge if that can suggest something...10:59
brainwashrasmalabar: source?11:03
brainwashI mean what instructions did you use to set it up?11:04
brainwashofficial README? some tutorial?11:04
rasmalabarMostly https://wiki.ubuntu.com/InputMethods/SCIM/Setup . It does not mention about Xubuntu though.11:12
rasmalabar@brainwash I removed scim and installed ibus. Works fine. Ctrl+Space also conflicts with Emacs (if at all I get it to work). So will continue with ibus. Thank you very much for your help and suggestion...11:36

Guest87156Hey how can I download and install Minecraft installer in synaptic package manager?15:22
Guest87156Is this possible? I would like to not be dependent on Snap Store and terminal15:26
tomreynGuest87156: you would need to find an apt repository providing it, then configure this apt repository on your system15:27
brainwashor just download and install the .deb file15:28
tomreynsince this is a proprietary software, for all i know, i would assume that only the developing company would provide such an apt repository, if anyone.15:28
Guest87156So by standard, does synaptic provide free software but not proprietary software?15:32
brainwashsynaptic provides nothing, it's just a graphical frontend15:33
Guest87156ok15:34
brainwashyou can download a .deb file from the minecraft website15:34
brainwashuse it to install minecraft15:34
Guest87156yes i see, thanks15:35
tomreynto install a *.deb file directly (which should only be done when there is no apt repository available, like here), you download the file, then instruct apt to install it: sudo apt install /path/to/downloaded/package.deb15:36
tomreynalso, before you do this, ensure this software is compatible to your (x)ubuntu release15:36
