atomd525i have some troubles when i try to install chromium-browser09:40
atomd525"new chromium-browser package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10"09:40
atomd525with lubuntu 20.04 lts09:41
atomd525resolved with sudo dpkg ––configure –a09:50
atomd525thank you for your non help, i have feel so lonely and sad09:51
kc2bezatomd525: chromium is delivered as a snap package now. The .Deb package should install the snap version.09:56
atomd525i see09:56
atomd525thank you09:56
kc2bezYou are welcome.09:56
atomd525what is the difference between a snap package and a .deb?09:57
kc2bezsnap is a universal package format that can be installed on most Linux distros. They have a sandbox confinement.09:58
kc2bezhttps://snapcraft.io/10:00
kc2bezIf you browse to the store section you can see all of the available packages. ^10:01
atomd525it is better than .deb?10:03
atomd525sandbox for a better security i suppose10:04
kc2bezThat is subjective. There are some benefits. The security being one of them.10:04
kc2bezIt is also possible to package something once and have it available everywhere10:05
kc2bezso 20.04,18.04,&16.04 and so on can all have the same version.10:06
atomd525i see10:06
atomd525lubuntu 20.04 looks like heavier in ram, because of lxqt?10:07
atomd525i hope it won't be a problem to install it on old computers10:08
kc2bezI haven't found it to be to much more.10:08
kc2bezStill less than 400Mb on a fresh boot10:09
atomd525i like to save old computers from the scrapyard10:09
kc2bezAs long as it has a 64 bit processor you should be all set.10:09
atomd525lubuntu is a great project for that, thanks to all the contributors10:10
atomd525ok10:10
kc2bezI think the biggest issue these days is the modern web will gobble up your RAM. There isn't much we can do about that.10:11
atomd525yes :(10:11
atomd525deactivate all the unuseful technologies inside a browser maybe10:12
kc2bezMaybe. Everyone has different use cases I guess.10:13
atomd525thanks for the chat, have a nice day10:14
kc2bezYou are welcome. Hope yours is good too.10:15

SpeakerToMeatIs there no way to build new initramfs on a live usb pen drive install?19:39
lubot<. .> Hi, … what is the "xpra gui"? I just saw that it is installed automatically19:40
tomreynSpeakerToMeat: what happens when you try?19:42
lubot<. .> I have no idea why and how it is installed :)19:42
geniixpra is basically like the program called "screen" but where you can run X apps instead of strictly commandline apps like in "screen". So you can detach from them and reattach to them19:42
SpeakerToMeattomreyn, If I use update-initramfs.dist (the other script is just an echo that says it can't be used for install media), I get an error trying to determine root fs19:44
lubot<. .> Thanks for the information ;)19:44
SpeakerToMeatI also need to double check is the initramfs can be replaced, since the boot partition is iso9660. I will probably have to copy the contents somewhere, replace the initramfs file and build a new image and copy it to the partition19:44
tomreynSpeakerToMeat: so you are trying to modify the live image?19:45
tomreynthose are indeed read-only, you'll need to rebuild the image to get a different one.19:46
tomreynwhy are you meaning to run update-initramfs in the first place?19:46
tomreynor why are you trying to get an updated initramfs onto the live usb?19:47
tomreynis there some problem somewhere which you're trying to solve? are you trying to improve upon something (and what)?19:48
SpeakerToMeattomreyn, Adding an option to a module. I tried using rc.local to run an equivalent command, but it failed, even when systemd has a rc.local checker. I will try with a systemd run once service unit, we'll see19:52
tomreynSpeakerToMeat: just pass the module option via grub19:53
tomreyn!kernelparm19:53
ubottuTo add a one-time or permanent kernel boot parameter see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBootParameters19:53
tomreyntrying to persist *anything* on a live usb image will fail. the only option is to rebuild it.19:54
SpeakerToMeatHmmm ok19:55
SpeakerToMeatWell this live image is persistent19:55
SpeakerToMeathas a casper-rw partition19:55
SpeakerToMeatThat works, but not for initramfs stage stuff of course19:55
tomreynyou wont need it anyways19:56
SpeakerToMeatThe other question, can you think about any reason why mouseemu would fail to work with lubuntu/lxde? I've set the mouseemu with config for ctrl+click = right click. It runs, with the "right" parameters, but doesn't do the work. I'm trying to determine if mosueemu gets the events, wether the codes for the events are right for it, and wether xorg and lxde are taking in account both pointers, the19:57
SpeakerToMeatreal one, and the mouseemu one.19:58
tomreynuse xev, compare events for mouse click vs ctrl-mouse click20:04
SpeakerToMeatNod I will do that too20:21
