=== fsociety is now known as Guest29726 [09:39] hi [09:40] i have some troubles when i try to install chromium-browser [09:40] "new chromium-browser package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10" [09:41] with lubuntu 20.04 lts [09:50] resolved with sudo dpkg ––configure –a [09:51] thank you for your non help, i have feel so lonely and sad [09:56] atomd525: chromium is delivered as a snap package now. The .Deb package should install the snap version. [09:56] i see [09:56] thank you [09:56] You are welcome. [09:57] what is the difference between a snap package and a .deb? [09:58] snap is a universal package format that can be installed on most Linux distros. They have a sandbox confinement. [10:00] https://snapcraft.io/ [10:01] If you browse to the store section you can see all of the available packages. ^ [10:03] it is better than .deb? [10:04] sandbox for a better security i suppose [10:04] That is subjective. There are some benefits. The security being one of them. [10:05] It is also possible to package something once and have it available everywhere [10:06] so 20.04,18.04,&16.04 and so on can all have the same version. [10:06] i see [10:07] lubuntu 20.04 looks like heavier in ram, because of lxqt? [10:08] i hope it won't be a problem to install it on old computers [10:08] I haven't found it to be to much more. [10:09] Still less than 400Mb on a fresh boot [10:09] i like to save old computers from the scrapyard [10:09] As long as it has a 64 bit processor you should be all set. [10:10] lubuntu is a great project for that, thanks to all the contributors [10:10] ok [10:11] I think the biggest issue these days is the modern web will gobble up your RAM. There isn't much we can do about that. [10:11] yes :( [10:12] deactivate all the unuseful technologies inside a browser maybe [10:13] Maybe. Everyone has different use cases I guess. [10:14] thanks for the chat, have a nice day [10:15] You are welcome. Hope yours is good too. [12:40] hey chipper [12:40] thacker? === samo is now known as Guest20608 === lubuntu is now known as Guest86353 === nikolas is now known as Guest95485 [19:39] Is there no way to build new initramfs on a live usb pen drive install? [19:40] <. .> Hi, … what is the "xpra gui"? I just saw that it is installed automatically [19:42] SpeakerToMeat: what happens when you try? [19:42] <. .> I have no idea why and how it is installed :) [19:42] xpra is basically like the program called "screen" but where you can run X apps instead of strictly commandline apps like in "screen". So you can detach from them and reattach to them [19:44] tomreyn, If I use update-initramfs.dist (the other script is just an echo that says it can't be used for install media), I get an error trying to determine root fs [19:44] <. .> Thanks for the information ;) [19:44] I also need to double check is the initramfs can be replaced, since the boot partition is iso9660. I will probably have to copy the contents somewhere, replace the initramfs file and build a new image and copy it to the partition [19:45] SpeakerToMeat: so you are trying to modify the live image? [19:46] those are indeed read-only, you'll need to rebuild the image to get a different one. [19:46] why are you meaning to run update-initramfs in the first place? [19:47] or why are you trying to get an updated initramfs onto the live usb? [19:48] is there some problem somewhere which you're trying to solve? are you trying to improve upon something (and what)? [19:52] tomreyn, Adding an option to a module. I tried using rc.local to run an equivalent command, but it failed, even when systemd has a rc.local checker. I will try with a systemd run once service unit, we'll see [19:53] SpeakerToMeat: just pass the module option via grub [19:53] !kernelparm [19:53] To add a one-time or permanent kernel boot parameter see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBootParameters [19:54] trying to persist *anything* on a live usb image will fail. the only option is to rebuild it. [19:55] Hmmm ok [19:55] Well this live image is persistent [19:55] has a casper-rw partition [19:55] That works, but not for initramfs stage stuff of course [19:56] you wont need it anyways [19:57] The other question, can you think about any reason why mouseemu would fail to work with lubuntu/lxde? I've set the mouseemu with config for ctrl+click = right click. It runs, with the "right" parameters, but doesn't do the work. I'm trying to determine if mosueemu gets the events, wether the codes for the events are right for it, and wether xorg and lxde are taking in account both pointers, the [19:58] real one, and the mouseemu one. [20:04] use xev, compare events for mouse click vs ctrl-mouse click [20:21] Nod I will do that too
