nuxilhello. how do i disable the update notifier popup ?02:59
nuxili tried commenting out the lines in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99update-notifier ,but it doesnt help.03:01
guivercnuxil, you haven't said which release, but https://manual.lubuntu.me/stable/4/4.4/Update-Notifier.html?highlight=update%20notifier provides clues as to program, I'd try unclicking the autostart checkbox in the "Application.Autostart" box03:15
nuxilsorry. using 20.0403:16
guiverchave a look and see if you can see what I mean (LXQt->Session.Settings)03:17
nuxilthanks03:19

Michael38I have installes Ubuntu 19.04 disco and wanted to add some more software or upgrade the system but it tells me that there is no Release file found at the URL18:31
lubot<kc2bez> 19.04 is end of life Michael38 https://lubuntu.me/lubuntu-19-10-end-of-life-and-current-support-statuses/18:32
Michael38I also tried "sudo do-release-upgrade" but the system answered that an upgrade from disco to focal is not supported18:34
kc2bezRight, that is two versions out of support actually.18:34
kc2bez!eol18:34
ubottuEnd-Of-Life is when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop. Make sure to update Ubuntu before it goes EOL so you get updates promptly for newly-discovered security vulnerabilities. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOL and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more info. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades18:34
Michael38So shall I download the new system and install Lubuntu again?18:35
kc2bezThat is probably the fastest solution.18:35
kc2bezYou should definitely backup your data first.18:35
Michael38Thank you! Do I need a CD oder DVD for the latest release?18:36
Michael38It is a virgin system18:36
lubot<teward001> why do you need to 'order' a disk18:37
kc2bezIt will fit on a DVD but a USB is likely faster18:37
lubot<teward001> download the ISO write it to the USB stick18:37
Michael38OK, thank you! That is all!18:37

JamesJr1Is anyone here that can help me with an installation error?22:41
wxlJamesJr1: don't ask to ask, just ask22:41
JamesJr1https://pastebin.com/B6PBSHY5 Here's a pastebin log of what I discovered using the terminal.22:42
JamesJr1I'm on a Ryzen 3 Desktop that I built myself.22:42
JamesJr1and yes I did try "umount /dev/loop0"22:44
wxlwhy aren't you just clicking on the install button?22:44
JamesJr1Because it had the error.22:44
JamesJr1I wanted to see if it outputted an error on the terminal.22:44
wxlthere are logsā€¦22:45
JamesJr1It's cool, any help tho.22:45
wxlhttps://phab.lubuntu.me/w/debugging/22:46
JamesJr1That doesn't really answer my question though...22:47
JamesJr1I'm trying to install a clean copy of Lubuntu, and it's saying it's failing to mount filesystem.squashfs due to loop0 being mounted already or busy or whatever...22:48
JamesJr1It's really irritating me, because I currently have no other install media to try something else, plus my HDD is well.... Blank.22:49
JamesJr1Currently chatting on the LiveUSB I have.22:50
wxlwhat i'm suggesting is you provide the logs22:50
wxlquestion before you do tho22:51
wxlwhat media are you trying to install to?22:51
JamesJr1Hard Disk22:51
wxlwhat kind?22:51
JamesJr1It's a cheaper 1TB HDD.22:51
wxljust a normal old spinning sata drive?22:51
JamesJr1I forget the brand name.22:51
JamesJr1And yes22:51
JamesJr1it is22:51
wxlwhat is mounted (pastebin the results of `mount`)?22:52
JamesJr1https://pastebin.com/iL0i2L3r22:53
JamesJr1I gotta brb I need to take my meds22:53
wxlwhat version of lubuntu is this btw?22:54
JamesJr1Latest version from the website22:57
JamesJr1wxl22:58
wxlwhat version is that, to be clear?22:58
wxllsb_release -a22:58
JamesJr119.1022:58
wxlwhta website did you download that from?22:59
JamesJr1lubuntu.net22:59
wxlthat's not our website22:59
wxlsee the topic22:59
wxlalso that's not the latest version22:59
wxlso go get 20.04 https://lubuntu.me/downloads/22:59
wxlmake sure you let the thing run it's disk check at the beginning and make sure it succeeds before proceeding23:00
JamesJr1How am I supposed to flash a new USB while I'm booted from it?23:00
wxl(furthermore 19.10 is no longer supported)23:00
wxlhow did you do it in the first place?23:00
JamesJr1I was on windows.23:00
JamesJr1And my partitions are gone.23:01
wxlkind of unfortunate23:01
wxli cannot even gurantee you have a valid version of lubuntu given the source you got it from, so it's hard to make much in the way of suggestions23:01
geniiwxl: This seems... possibly related https://github.com/calamares/calamares/issues/104423:04
guivercJamesJr1, I've used a 'live' image to `wget` an ISO which was written to space (created partition, another time used network storage), then `dd` to a thumb-drive (not the drive the live was running on though; that is possible to with local space & more effort)23:05
wxlyeah that's a possibility if you have a partitioned drive23:05
guivercon 19.10 - https://lubuntu.me/lubuntu-19-10-end-of-life-and-current-support-statuses/  (what wxl said anyway)23:06
wxla virtual machine could be a solution but i doubt the live system has enough storage for that23:06
JamesJr1I'll just download a new copy on my friend's laptop and flash to the the usb23:07
JamesJr1I don't have an extra thumb drive.23:07
JamesJr1Anyway Thanks.23:07
guivercI created a partition (since it was where I wanted to install to using 'live', it didn't matter to me); I can't recall what ISO & may have opted for netboot or something..23:07
JamesJr1Anyway the site is lubuntu.me23:08
JamesJr1?23:08
wxlgenii: last published version in eoan was 3.2.14 which is greater than the 3.2.3 that fixed it23:08
wxlJamesJr1: yep23:08
wxlyou'll see that listed EVERYWHERE23:09
wxlincluding ubuntu.com, wikipedia, distrowatch, etc.23:09
JamesJr1Ah alright cool, I'll be back in a bit in case it doesn't work still ;)23:09
JamesJr1Thanks for your awesome help :)23:09
wxlyep! be well!23:09
