GUI is all white with weird black artefacts and the CLI on tty1 is black with white artefacts for each character - making any attempts to correct the problem pretty impossible.

[20:07] <gnoob> I am running xubuntu as a persistant USB drive.  I am having an issue where whenever my laptop wakes up after being idle I have to press "Windows-key + P" to change the display back to the 2nd monitor.
