xu-irc53wHello. I have seen that Xubuntu 20.04.1 exists already (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/20.04.1/release/). But it isn't listed on https://xubuntu.org/releases/. What is the reason for this difference?09:52
tomreynxu-irc53w: i assume it's just that no one got around to update the website, yet10:46
tomreynit should be safe to use, though.10:46
tomreynxu-irc53w: there's a 20.04.1 torrent link at https://xubuntu.org/download10:48
tomreynso it's really just that https://xubuntu.org/release/20-04/ has not been updated to point to the newer torrent, yet10:49
coconutor here if you don't want to torrent -. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/20.04.1/release/10:52

DarkTrickHow do I add environment variable settings to menu items?12:04
DarkTrickI tried `env MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965 /usr/bin/vlc --no-one-instance` as command, but it doesnt work12:05
tomreynwhat exactly "does not work"? how do you tell?12:21
DarkTrickmenu -> search application -> start application -> nothing happens12:26
DarkTricktomreyn, ↑12:26
DarkTricktomreyn, may it be possible that the new information is not yet loaded?12:26
DarkTricktrying it in application finder shows a small error message. It looks like the desktop file gets updated within the FS, but not within menu/appfinder12:28
DarkTricksolved:12:29
DarkTrickmenu-libre "save" button did only update file system, but not not update the internal data of12:29
DarkTrickbut not internal data12:29
tomreynglad you worked it out!12:33
xu-help76wHello, I'm new to xubuntu. I am dealing with a sound problem. I was using Ubuntu 16 on a generic and old notebook, the sound was perfect and the internal microphone was working perfectly. I installed xubuntu 20 and the sound level decreased and the internal microphone no longer works. I still have the installation of Ubuntu 16, so the question, is13:51
xu-help76wthere a way to imitate the sound configuration and ubuntu 16 modules? I do not know where to start.13:51
tomreynsolving sound issues is not too easy, unfortunately13:54
tomreyn!sound13:54
ubottuIf you're having problems with sound, click the Volume applet, then Sound Preferences, and check your Volume, Hardware, Input, and Output settings.  If that fails, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sound - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting - https://alsa.opensrc.org/DmixPlugin - For playing audio files,  see !players and !mp3.13:54
tomreynxu-help76w: ^13:54
tomreynI suggest you start by just ensuring your Xubuntu 20.04 (I assume here, you only said "20", which does not exist) installation is fully updated, and rebooted afterwards, though.13:55
tomreyn!uptodate13:55
ubottuTo ensure you have all the latest known patches and security updates for your ubuntu installation, please update with the following command: `sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade`. See also !upgrades and !security; you may also need to run `apt full-upgrade`.13:55
xu-help76wOk, the volume applet don't solve the problem. The internal mic don't work  and I checked the Hardware Outputs devices13:56
xu-help76wI will see the doc's ubott13:56
xu-help76wI tested using arecord and aplay13:57
xu-help76wtomreyn -> 20.04 my mistake13:57
xu-help76wMy simple brain thought, why not just replace the 20.04 snd module with 16.04? This could work?14:01
tomreynno, this won't work14:07
tomreynthe drivers are in the kernel, the kernel version has changed a lot, and 16.04 LTS' kernel would not be compatible to 20.04 LTS' user space.14:08
tomreynxu-help76w: you really do need to upgrade to either 18.04 LTS or 20.04 LTS, though, since xubuntu 16.04 has reached end of life a good while ago.14:09
tomreynon 2019-04-2114:10
xu-help76wtomreyn  besides the end of life I need a ligth desktop, so xubuntu with xfce is the perfect choice14:11
tomreynprobably a better choice than gnome then yes.14:12
tomreynthe right approach for fixing the audio issues will involve identifying your sound chipset, and searching the web and launchpad (ubuntu's bug tracker) for other reports (and fixes or workarounds) regarding this issue.14:13
xu-help76wI am very impressed with the performance of xubuntu, just the sound issue is a headache. But I figure out that is recorrent to other to14:13

tomreyni'm not able to support you in doing the additional research needed here.14:15
xu-help76wok tomreyn. No problem, I keep searching14:16
xu-help76wThank's14:16
tomreyntry also creating a new user account, see whether it works fine there.14:16
tomreynnot rarely, after such a huge upgrade, you end up with configurations in your users' home directory which are counter productive.14:17
xu-help76wOk, this is my first time here. I will create an acount14:17
tomreyngood luck, i'll be back later14:17
