IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> are  there any negatives to including virtualbox guest additions by default in Kubuntu ISO? … The reason I ask is if they are included in the ISO then the LiveISO boot of Kubuntu would have Auto Display Resize built in by default which I think would add an improvement testing first impressions.15:24
IrcsomeBot<X> Unfortunately yes. It's all about license stuff15:28
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> oh dang :(15:29
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> note, somehow Neon seems to have them. not sure how that matters15:31
mparilloIs it correct that the virtual box guest additions are not on the Live ISO, but somehow are on the installed VM? I do not recall installing them.15:32
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> on Neon, I just tested it in a VM that I have not installed, this is just running of LiveISO and it has "auto-resize guest display" enabled by default without the user doing anything. The only way to do this that I know of is to include the guest addition packages by default on the ISO. I know a few others do this as well.15:34
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @MichaelTunnell, This already works by default, as the vbox guest additions kernel module had been included for quite a while now15:35
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> @RikMills, just tested today in Vbox 6.1 = does not work15:35
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @MichaelTunnell, That is a bug in vbox, not kubuntu15:36
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> ahh gotcha15:36
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> well, not just vbox https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40705815:38
ubottuKDE bug 407058 in common "KDE Plasma5 can't change resolution in VM after last update" [Normal,Confirmed]15:38
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> visualisers blame KDE. KDE blames visualisers = bug not fixed15:39
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> :(15:40
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> :( dang15:41
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> this is one reason I still use vbox 5.x git/svn snapshot15:46
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> ahh15:47
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> 6.x had too many bugs for me from the start, and the extra features were not worth the hassle while 5.x is still supported with fixes15:48
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> good to know15:48
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> sadly most people will not 'know' :(15:49
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> as the bug (I think says) you can make 6.x work by switching the graphics backend emulation to one of the options not meant for linux, but vbox seem to not want to acknowledge that officially as it is not what they say should be supported.15:52
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> oh that is certainly unfortunate.15:52
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> honestly I do not understand the technical side of that enough to genuinely assign blame, but it is still the fact that users get the sh***y end of it15:54
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> indeed. and now that I understand the issue I dont have an issue with it not working in regards to Kubuntu but am aware that it will be problematic for a while for many.16:02
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> nothing can be done and thats unfortunate.16:02
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> I am making a modification to a suggestion for Kubuntu that I made a year ago related to changes in Plasma defaults. I came up with a new approach to why and how to do it. … so FYI I'm helpful again :D16:03
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> update complete = https://phabricator.kde.org/T1056716:14
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> oh wow, Neon doesnt even work in Vbox 6.1 at all just a empty black screen after initial plymouth16:23
IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> @RikMills was my suggestion for Desktop Effect layout mode change to Automatic applied as a default in Kubuntu? … I dont remember if I changed it or not in this build.16:42
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @MichaelTunnell, https://git.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-packagers/kubuntu-packaging/+git/kubuntu-settings/commit/?h=kubuntu_focal_archive&id=829327a314977f4b88b454fe49d608753fd323d616:44

IrcsomeBot<MichaelTunnell> https://phabricator.kde.org/T13582 I made something :D … if KDE refuses to do this which of course I expect to happen, I'd also like to formally suggest Kubuntu do this19:51
