[13:11] Guest40679: You want to get the checksum or know, what it is for? [13:11] I want to check the iso image. [13:11] Guest40679: What operating system are you on? [13:12] xubuntu [13:12] Guest40679: usually the checksum file is offered directly next to where you got the ISO from [13:12] I got it from torrent [13:12] Guest40679: Here you can find it: https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?version=20.04.1&architecture=amd64 [13:13] if you downloaded a properly trusted torrent (i.e., the torrent from the ubuntu website), there should be no need to check, since the checksumming is always done in torrents [13:13] ah, sorry, xubuntu [13:14] the SHA256 sums you find here: http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/ubuntu-dvd/xubuntu/releases/20.04/release/SHA256SUMS [13:14] when you type in the terminal `sha256sum xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso`, it will output you the SHA256 sum on your local computer [13:14] you have to compare that to the oen of the file there [13:20] I did this: [13:20] echo "4a8190b11f97a0ed67932ac4fcf5280107d31db6a6c5d4b4542889fc94ec8031 *xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso"|sha1sum -c andrei@andrei-Satellite-C660:~/Downloads$ echo "4a8190b11f97a0ed67932ac4fcf5280107d31db6a6c5d4b4542889fc94ec8031 *xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso"|sha256sum -c -xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso: OK [13:20] Thank you :-) [13:30] If I do: sudo fdisk -l [13:30] I see: [13:30] Disk /dev/sdb: 298,9 GiB, 320072933376 bytes, 625142448 sectorsDisk model: TOSHIBA MK3265GSUnits: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytesSector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytesI/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytesDisklabel type: dosDisk identifier: 0xc263fb74Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type/dev/sdb1 * [13:30] 2048 1050623 1048576 512M b W95 FAT32/dev/sdb2 1052670 625141759 624089090 297,6G 5 Extended/dev/sdb5 1052672 625141759 624089088 297,6G 83 Linux [13:31] Whay FAT32? [21:02] xu-irc24w: What do you mean? You can go on it already, but there is no official 20.10 of course [21:03] I guess replacing the "focal" or whatever you are on in your /etc/apt/sources.list to the name of 20.10 should do the trick? [21:03] groovy that is [21:09] The more conventional way would be to use the -d switch of do-release-upgrade [21:12] genii: Ah, good to know [22:37] Hello! I'm running xubuntu 20.04 on Samsung Chromebook after deleting the Chrome OS. I was able to make sound work on my xubuntu but there's still no microphone sound.. The system display microphone in mixer's input devices but there's no actual sound. Can anyone suggest how the mic issue can be solved? [22:45] !sound [22:45] If you're having problems with sound, click the Volume applet, then Sound Preferences, and check your Volume, Hardware, Input, and Output settings. If that fails, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sound - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting - https://alsa.opensrc.org/DmixPlugin - For playing audio files, see !players and !mp3. [22:45] could be a firmware issue. try an external / pluggable mic as well [23:13] I have no plugable mic unfortunately. And I checked sound preferences, it does see input device and it's not muted. Any other suggestions?
