The keyboard doesn't seem responsive. I also have a COM to USB port - can I connect to a terminal with screen on my main machine and install from there? [20:05] jayjo_: try adding something like console=ttyS0,9600 console=tty0 https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/serial-console.html [20:14] sarnold: you probably should run a getty on that serial port as well [20:16] RoyK: can you do that from the installer? I haven't got a clue if serial console 'works' for installing these days; I hoped this would 'just work', you know? :) [20:25] someone whose first name is mark filed a bug about serial console support being complicated around 18.04, and i think it got improved since. haven't gotten around to try, yet, though. [20:25] sarnold: never done it from the installer - dunno [20:26] sarnold: but the console won't normally start a getty, just spit out kernel messages [20:28] bug 1770962 [20:28] bug 1770962 in subiquity "Support serial-port based install" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1770962 [20:32] "No feedback, no party. That's bug comment of the week, for sure :)" :D [21:55] I can access the serial port OK on the machine through the bios and through selecting "Install Ubuntu Server" but that's as far as it goes. I think I'll have to go source a wired USB keyboard. [21:55] jayjo_: bugger :( thanks for reporting back [21:55] jayjo_: it might be worth a bug report, though, since I think we thought this was supposed to work
