=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [02:19] Hello. I have had a long-standing problem with xubuntu turning the video output off after inactivity despite changing every relevant power management setting. I had previously solved the problem by running a bash script with this command on startup: "xset -dpms;xset s off" . However, after using the same boot device when changing from an intel to an amd setup, the problem now exists again. Any tips? [09:23] wondering if anyone might know how to adjust PA... i've connected an old SoundBlaster Omni usb and pulseaudio's profiles are either output, or input, but there is no profile to have an audio output + input available at the same time [09:23] how do those profiles get configured? [09:40] Guest_79: pavucontrol should offer those to you actually, that is weird [09:40] anyway, I don't think here you'll get optimal help with that, since it is not really a xubuntu problem [09:41] I guess there must be a #pulseaudio or #pulse or so on freenode which might help you much more [09:44] okay, i'm gonna try one thing as I found a sb-omni-surround-5.1.conf in PA's profile-sets, i've added some sections but can't restart pa while I'm on a call with work :) [09:44] but this may be a non-issue === Guest_79 is now known as __boot [18:17] hello [18:18] sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but can i get help installing a certain .deb package? [18:18] just ask [18:18] xfce4-hardware-monitor-plugin [18:18] what is the problem? [18:19] when i open it in software installer it just says "this package has unmet dependencies" [18:19] erhm [18:19] which xubuntu version? [18:19] https://git.xfce.org/archive/xfce4-hardware-monitor-plugin/tree/README [18:19] 20.04 [18:19] there is no such package for 20.04 [18:19] the package you have isn't meant for 20.04 [18:19] most likely [18:19] it is deprecated i think [18:19] so i wasnt supposed to install it? [18:19] NOPE [18:20] my bad then, thank you so much for the help [18:20] would you happen to know a good system monitor kind of thing? [18:20] the default one is alright but i want to see network usage etc [18:20] basically if you have problem with installing a package, either the package is broken, or it wasn't meant for whatever OS you're running [18:20] https://gitlab.xfce.org/groups/panel-plugins/-/archived?utf8=%E2%9C%93&filter=hardware [18:20] archived [18:20] freshdude: no clue sorry, I don't use such things [18:21] no worries, thanks again for the quick response! [18:23] freshdude: there are xfce4-systemload-plugin, xfce4-sensors-plugin, xfce4-netload-plugin, xfce4-diskperf-plugin, xfce4-cpugraph-plugin, xfce4-cpufreq-plugin, xfce4-battery-plugin, xfce4-genmon-plugin [18:23] doe sone of those cover what you are trying to monitor? [18:25] i was using systemload-plugin and cpugraph but i missed the others [18:25] do they already come with xubuntu? [18:26] i think so, there should be a xfce4-plugins package or similar [18:27] ah there's actually packages individually [18:27] ah they're actually packaged individually [18:28] example: xfce4-systemload-plugin [18:28] i found network monitor in the panel settings [18:28] not sure if same package [18:28] though it doesnt seem to be working [18:29] just two empty bars [18:29] you may need to cinfugure it first of all [18:29] so it'll know which interface to monitor [18:29] try right.clicking+ [18:29] i opened properties and found an empty "network device" field [18:30] also: sudo apt install xfce4-systemload-plugin xfce4-sensors-plugin xfce4-netload-plugin xfce4-diskperf-plugin xfce4-cpugraph-plugin xfce4-cpufreq-plugin xfce4-battery-plugin xfce4-genmon-plugin [18:30] hmm, yes, this sounds like the one you just tried doesn't work anymore. but this is probably not the xfce4-netload-plugin [18:31] it is installed [18:31] freshdude: run ifconfig in a terminal and use the device that has TX packets for your network device [18:32] oh, right, you may just need to enter the device name in this empty field. i took what you said as "it's empty and i can't edit it" [18:33] but maybe you just meant "it's empty and i don't know what to put there" [18:33] ohh my bad yes thats what i meant [18:35] it worked! thanks a lot, i have all the stats i wanted now [18:35] \o/ [18:35] just curious, do these extra packages show up in the software store? [18:36] like are they supposed to or are they just hidden or something [18:36] they are available via apt, so any software handling apt packages should show them, if you have the !universe repository enabled [18:37] ah i see, probably missed them then [18:37] i think software store still shows apt packages in addition to snaps, but i can be wrong [18:37] synaptic would show them with !universe enabled+ [18:37] !universe [18:37] The packages in Ubuntu are divided into several sections. More information at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecommendedSources for the recommended way to set up your repositories. [18:38] should i enable it just in case [18:41] freshdude: should you enable what? [18:42] the universe thing [18:42] i suspect it may already be enabled, but couldn't tell remotely. [18:42] packages there have a lower support level than those in main [21:46] If I run $ xfce4-terminal -working-directory=~/symlink (where symlink points to /somepath), the terminal opens up with the whole path instead of just the symlink. Is there a way to make xfce4-terminal use the symlink path? [21:47] I wonder.. [22:02] I have recently installed a clean installation of xubuntu 20.04 and I am having troubles with the screen [22:04] Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] driver: nouveau v: kernel Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.8 driver: nouveau unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa resolution: 1440x900~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: NV4C v: 2.1 Mesa 20.0.4
