[02:49] 021 === Scotty_Trees2 is now known as Scotty_Trees [06:55] Good morning [08:43] @Empire201_Off, I am not too sure what you are asking but as far as an application, if Konversation is not already installed just install it via Discover, Muon or whatever package manager you use! === Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life [10:01] hello [10:02] how i can change panel color and add tarnsparacy on plasma === matrix is now known as Guest41871 [11:49] I tried to use ```sudo apt-get clean``` but terminal shows nothing [11:49] is that normal? [11:50] Hey People, with the update to Groovy I have this weird tearing I have never seen before. I runs diagonally over most browsers windows (Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi) from the top left, but only triggered in some weird way by the mouse. I just shot this short video of it. If anyone can identify what this is it would be cool: https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMNYC24CI5azuxcjdkTo04YpqOSdu0t_gOOXW6h [11:53] Hi all [12:07] I tried to use … `sudo apt-get clean` … but terminal shows nothing … is that normal? [12:09] try, sudo apt-get autoremove [12:12] @YesEyeCan ^ [12:21] That worked. So why did apt-get clean show nothing? [12:26] sudo apt autoclean, I no longer use apt-get [12:28] https://itsfoss.com/apt-vs-apt-get-difference/ [12:30] I see [12:35] it's normal for "clean" to return without output, this just indicates it did what you asked for without running into an unexpected situation. [12:35] you'll see this with many other commands as well, such as rm or mv [12:36] no output unless something was noteworthy or went wrong, or you are prompted for something. [12:45] Okay then [12:45] I was scared because previous install had no output and tmp folder still filled up [12:45] Causing me to get locked out [12:46] I reformatted with a larger /root partition, but now I get graphical glitches [12:50] normally, /tmp is backed by ram, not disk [12:54] My root partition will get filled up in no time, that's why I think [12:55] I went from 18gb to 50gb [13:00] you must be installing a lot of extra packages [13:00] Not really [13:00] The largest I had was amdgpu drivers [13:00] Even that i uninstalled, but the shit filled up later [13:00] media ? [13:01] All in a separate partition [13:02] 18GB should be plenty for / if you have a separate /home partition, otherwise it's pretty small [13:04] I did have a /home [13:09] Idk what happened, I feel like moving away from Kubuntu if another bug pops up. … Install 1: Black screen coming out of sleep … Install 2: Random slowdown … Install 3: Random slowdown until charger is restarted … Install 4: /root filling up and crashing me out … Install 5: Screen glitching out at random [13:58] benvantende was added by: benvantende [14:03] (Photo, 1280x749) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/6GqSTe5r/file_37199.jpg Hey People. I have been having this weird graphical issue after the upgrade to Groovy that looks like this. Some parts of the top left screen have this 'tearing' I have never seen before. I tried switching options in compaositoir, but that does not work. It looks to me like a bug. Can anyone confirm that or any idea what might cause that? [20:57] is it really true that Kubuntu 20.10 will not ship Plasma 5.20? [21:08] chak: there is/was no way it possibly could ship with it. it's release date was always too late to include [21:10] oh. So the only way to get the new stuff is the KDE Neon? what a pitty that there is no rolling plasma on the non-LTS Kubuntu :-( [21:12] Well, this ain't a rolling distro.. [21:16] @chak, I found KDE Neon quite buggy in daily use that's why switched to Kubuntu [21:16] Thanks for sharing the experience. [21:17] Welcome [21:17] I am still new the whole KDE thing. used Cinnamon for about 10yrs. [21:17] There it was very seamless but no progress on productivity tools. [21:19] in Kubuntu, Dolphin sometimes opens tar.gz with KTorrent. I also had to correct other wrong file associations... [21:21] chak: I think with the backports ppa you should get palsma 5.20 [21:21] cool. I am considering switching to beta after a good backup on the weekend [21:24] @chak, I see, I'm distrohopping still, Plasma, Gnome, Cinnamon, Budgie, XFCE, LXQT, Pantheon, And zorin os's version of xfce [21:27] @mx_tom, Not this time sadly. KDE developers have been aggressively bumping the minimum Qt requirements for plasma in the run up to Qt 6, so it needs a version of Qt that was not released in a stable bugfix version in time to be in 20.10. i.e. plasma 5.20 will not build for 20.10 [21:28] I ***might*** make an experimental PPA somewhere with new Qt and plasma in for 20.10, but it would be a 'use at your own risk' type thing. [21:29] @RikMills: thanks for explaining and providing a reason for patience [21:29] @RikMills, The required Qt is currently landing in debian experimental repos, so that is possible [21:30] there is more important stuff: content creation, etc. I just like to be close to upstream to support with bug reporting & enjoy the good work of the developers [21:31] chak: np. in the end ubuntu and its official flavours are often used for enterprise/eduction etc, so we can't surf the bleeding edge in the main repos like some distro can [21:33] chak: I generally have Kubuntu on a desktop, and Neon on a laptop. That allows me to have the best of both worlds :) [21:33] @therealriganb sorry for the hopping. Start to settle to be able to focus on work/content & not the desktop environment (DE)! Check your workflow, then choose a DE. I think arts & games seem to fit more gnome/xfce while desktop work (writing, presentations, etc.) are more with Plasma / cinnamon. Cinnamon is still more consistent than KDE while KDE has more functionality like KDE connect or the search tools. [21:34] @RikMills cool. I only have 1 laptop that should flow. Manjaro is more bleeding but I fear it breaks a lot. [21:35] anyhow, this get's into a taste issue here. My issue with LTS is only the lag for drivers such as scanner or Libreoffice... [21:35] if now, I'd go neon with some sort of timeshift like roll-back function [21:36] @chak, My fav are cinnamon, plasma and pantheon [21:36] I never play games, maybe a couple of days in a year but that's all [21:37] @chak, And yes I've settled now with Kubuntu for over a month, the other ones I try in VM tbh [21:37] I also used Pop Os and Linux mint each for 2 weeks before this [21:38] @therealriganb: very legit & same here. maybe for my family the pantheon is best. cool & stylish [21:40] as for pop_os, I would love to have this auto-tiling built into KDE. I tried these plasma scripts but they failed on some front. Probably the whole thing needs a year or two [21:52] @RikMills are u part of the dev team? I feel bug reporting & feature suggestion for both KDE & Kubuntu should be a lot easier. Sitting of a ton of notes I would need to file in those form sheets.... === giovanni is now known as Guest74770 [23:45] Sup
