[02:18] hello, how do i add the Caps Lock and Num Lock key indicator on the panel? [17:47] hi [17:54] !hi | manu1511 [17:54] manu1511: Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay! [18:19] hello there, can i ask a question here? [18:19] yeah [18:19] im on xubuntu 20.04 and i have an Authentec AES2501 fingerprint sensor on my laptop [18:19] i was wondering if there was a way to make it work for logins and stuff? [18:20] you'd need PAM integration I Guess [18:21] https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2020/04/ubuntu-fingerprint-scanner-login-desktop apparently regular Ubuntu improved support for that, not sure how that applies to xubuntu [18:22] i see [18:22] i tried installing fprintd by following the tutorial from aarch wiki [18:22] but it didnt really work [18:23] you' [18:23] you'll need more than just a daemon [18:23] you need pam module, and an appliance to enroll your fingerprints [18:23] the daemon is mostly just some infrastructure piece to tie the other two pieces together [18:24] i tried to install fingerprint-gui but it seems that i was discontinued and wont work for 20.04 [18:24] it* [18:27] will installing libfprint make it work? [18:27] sorry but i dont get how linux stuff works together yet : / [18:32] libpam-fprintd you'll need that [18:33] apparently the enrollment thing is tied to gnome-control-center [18:33] https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/3v1n0/fprintd-mock-runner that was linked on the page I pasted earlier [18:35] looks like i had installed libpam-fprintd already [18:36] but if i try fprintd-enrol it does not register my finger swipes and just kinda stays stuck [18:38] also if the enrollement gui thing is tied to gnome does that mean i cannot use it on xubuntu since its xfce? [18:41] not sure [18:41] I've never tried it myself [18:42] i see [18:42] the pam things might need to be enabled [18:42] not sure if merely installing it also enables it [18:42] sudo pam-auth-update will tell you I guess [18:42] keep in mind you might end up locking yourself out, so keep a livecd handy :) [18:43] i do have it on a flash drive just in case [18:44] i think i did that command before [18:44] now it says that fingerprint authentication is enabled [18:44] fprintd-list what does that say [18:44] is fprintd currently running? [18:45] found 1 devicesDevice at /net/reactivated/Fprint/Device/0Using device /net/reactivated/Fprint/Device/0User bezos has no fingers enrolled for AuthenTec AES2501. [18:46] sorry for messed up formatting [18:46] and 'fprintd-enroll bezos' just hangs? [18:47] it says "Enrolling right index finger" as if its waiting for me to swipe my finger on it but it does not seem to register any swipes [18:47] i know that you have to do it maybe 10 times or something but still [18:48] keep doing it [18:48] maybe the sensor is just not that great [18:48] require more passes [18:49] its an older style one yeah def not great [18:49] * pmjdebruijn has to run [18:49] good luck [18:49] but i used it occasionally on windows and i know its "sweet" spot [18:49] ill keep trying then, thank you so much for the help and good night! [19:13] hope im not nagging too much, but i have a more annoying problem [19:14] when i suspend my laptop, it wakes up with glitchy graphics, and theres a 50/50 chance itll continue working just fine, or get stuck and make me have to force shutdown and reboot [19:15] i read about it in the manual and it seems to be a common problem, but i was hoping there might be a way to fix it [19:15] xubuntu 20.04 on an hp compaq 8510p with ati mobility radeon hd2600 [19:15] is there any useful logs i can provide?
