[08:53] Did I read this right? No calf plugins in 20.10 ? [09:22] Yes. I myself was fumbling as could not find them. 😅 However there are all the plugins i needed from other providers. So no big change for me [09:22] Must be because of gtk2 I'd guess [09:28] not sure why, but LSP plugins covered for me all that I used from calf. [09:28] Also, overall 20.10 has been amazing so far. Been using it since it was released and was never able to break anything. Plus that plasma performance is awesome, and quite light on resources. I love xfce but IMHO, it was an excellent decision to switch to plasma. [09:28] * not sure why, but LSP plugins covered for me all that I used from calf. [16:02] Mauro Gaspari, rgh : LSP plugins duplicate much of the functionality of the Calf plugins. Moreover, plugins that rely on the system GTK toolkit aren't supported in Ardour 6. [16:04] OvenWerks could tell you many, many more reasons why we opted to drop them from the default. They're in the repos, however. [16:04] Always remember: just because it's not on the ISO doen't mean it's not in the repos. :) [16:10] Oh, if it's in the repos, it's fine I guess. [16:11] calf plugins have some of the poorest dsp of all plugins. [16:11] I wonder why there's anything non gtk toolkit in the calf git repos but the plugins aren't ported yet. Some plugins certainly have their uses [16:12] Crashing ardour is one of those uses lol [16:12] rgh: while that is true, we don't want to encourage people to use poor plugins when there are good plugins that do what they say they do available. [16:15] ubuntu is often a starting point for young "engineers" to produce music. It would be good to get their ears used to sound that is not distorted by bad dsp. It is also nice to have less support time dealing with crashes... say take out all the calf and then "so why do you ship them?" [16:16] It is much easier to say "that is why we don't ship them" to those who install them after wards. [16:17] so far we haven't had anyone strip the screws while trying to remove them :) === ctrlshiftPrhaps1 is now known as ctrlshiftPrhaps === froh is now known as asasdgas === asasdgas is now known as froh
