ash_worksithere used to be a key you could hold down which shows the numbers for applications on the dock00:07
ash_worksiI thought it might be super since super + N will launch an app at that number; idk if that may have been removed in an upgrade00:07
CorvetteZR1hello00:14
CorvetteZR1i just did a minimum install of ubuntu 20.10 and xfce400:15
CorvetteZR1everything appears to be working fine, but .svg icons are not displaying in thunar00:16
CorvetteZR1and in themes that have svg00:16
CorvetteZR1is there a certain library i need to make it work?00:16
CorvetteZR1librsvg2 is installed...is there anything else i need?00:16
krytarikash_worksi: Yeah, Unity did that, dunno if the new dock running under GNOME Shell does it too though.00:24
ash_worksikrytarik: drat. Yeah, when I hold super + N the numbers display for a brief period00:31
ash_worksiwhich sucks because if I've already picked a number, then it's a bit too late00:31
krytarikHaha, yep! XD00:32
ash_worksitweaking the theme back to ambient is glitchy on 2000:32
ash_worksiI really gnome extensions didn't need-be installed through a browser00:35
krytarikRegarding the first, yeah that wouldn't surprise me at all, due to never stopping changes to GTK and those themes not being actively maintained anymore - which was the reason the new community-driven one was brought to life.00:39
ash_worksikrytarik: so should I _not_ use ambiance ?00:45
krytarikI wouldn't anymore, yeah.00:45
ash_worksibut the greys are so soft :(00:45
ash_worksijk, I'll make do; BUT!00:45
ash_worksithere is another theme on tweaks00:45
ash_worksiawaita?00:46
ash_worksiAdwaita00:46
ash_worksianyway, I am reading several SO questions on how to change the top bar color00:46
krytarikYeah, that's GNOME's default theme and therefore safe to pick.00:46
ash_worksiwell, it didn't appear to be the default for me on 2000:47
ash_worksithe window top bars were all black00:47
krytarikBecause you aren't using stock GNOME.00:47
ash_worksiI'm not?00:47
ash_worksioh, as in, I'm using the ubuntu-configured gnome00:48
krytarikYeah.00:48
ash_worksiok, well anyway, there's Adwaita (... maybe Yaru's better... debatable for me) and Yaru, basically, and light/dark variants00:49
ash_worksion all these SO questions about the top bar, they talk about extracting a css file from the Yaru theme and dropping it in a local directory00:50
ash_worksiso I thought, "oh interesting, I guess all the themes in tweaks will get their own css here"00:50
ash_worksibut all I see is Yaru in gnome-shell00:50
ash_worksiunless... I guess gnome-classic === Adwaita maybe?00:50
ash_worksithere's also Radiance00:52
ash_worksinvm, I see them all there in /usr/share/themes00:58
krytarikYeah, occasionally it helps if you do "dpkg -L" on a package to see what it got.01:03
ash_worksiwow; it's amazing what a difference having the top bar a different color makes01:09
ash_worksiit was just... way too black with Yaru01:09
kk4ewtgordo yes we did01:12

Rojolahi09:32
RojolaWhat is the most recommendable software to tag pictures on Linux, but ideally cross-platform?09:32
Rojolaor even web-based but self-hosted09:32
RojolaI would love for all pictures to be tagged in a way that allows me to find them easily, even in 50 years from now09:33
RojolaFor example:  Location: Paris  / People: Joe, Ann  / Landmark: Eiffel Tower  // Food:  icecream09:33
Rojolaany suggestions?09:34
lotuspsychjeRojola: just organize them into a decent folder structure? 2020==>OCT==>DAY==>event name?09:36
Maikdigikam maybe?09:36
Maikavailable on linux mac and windows09:37
MaikRojola: https://www.digikam.org/09:37
rk4filenames and folders would be my suggestion, simple and reliable, `find` will quickly search it09:38
lotuspsychje+1 rk409:38

Rojolathank you for responding09:41
RojolaMaik, actually, yes, you are right... using filenames would be good.09:42
Rojolathe `find` command can then easily find them09:42
Rojolaor "locate"09:42
Rojolawhat about meta tags?09:42
lotuspsychjeMaik: agree, digikam is the most cross platform09:42
RojolaI thought about a mysql DB with the tags09:43
Rojolathe MySQL DB could hold the path to the picture and the ID09:43
Rojolaand a second table contains all tags09:43
Rojolaand a third table connects the tags to the id's09:43
Rojolathat would be future-proof09:43
Rojolabut maybe I could just add EXIF data and search through it?09:44
Maikdarktable is also cross-platform, f-spot and shotwell aren't09:44
RojolaMaik, the problem is, nobody knows if digikam or darktable will still exist in 50+ years09:45
RojolaMaik, these baby-pictures and stuff are my memories09:46
lotuspsychjeRojola: you are making things too complicated then its worth09:46
RojolaI need to find them when I am old09:46
MaikRojola: no body knows if we still exist in 50 years, or linux or windows or mac09:47
Rojolalinux... I am 99% sure linux will survive09:47
rk4how many photos do you have? i think a csv could be viable for most people rather than a DB09:47
Rojolark4, about 40.00009:48
Rojolark4, nah, it must be more.09:49
Rojolark4, on my current phone alone are 15.000+09:49
Maiklet's hope you got a good backup, cause ssd's and HDD's don't live 50+ years09:49
RojolaMaik, I consider encrypting them and uplading them to a cloud based service09:49

nlyxi have an issue with hibernation on my laptop running xubuntu 20.04. so hibernation didn't come out of the box, so to enable it, I had to: create a swap  partition with gparted, edit my fstab file to point to that partition, edit my grub config file to be able to resume from that partition, run the update grub command. I may have had to install some package(s) in the middle of that, can't quite remember. Now the issue is that11:27
nlyxwhenever the laptop wakes from hibernation, the only programs which are restored are firefox and the terminal (at least out of the ones I use on a daily basis).11:27
nlyxsoftware like chrome, vscode, android studio just doesn't open again11:28

TJ-dbugger: what is the device you're trying to pair?16:39
dbuggerTJ-, no idea... could it be possible that I have no agent?16:39
dbuggerTJ-, Logitech MX Keys16:39
TJ-dbugger: "default-agent" makes bluetoothctl the agent; "agent X" tells it what kind of agent to be16:39
jaydemirdo I have to add anything to that loop?16:40
dbuggerTJ-, I do not know if this is relevant, but I do not seem to have a command "bluetooth-agent" in my shell. Could that be the issue?16:40
TJ-dbugger: so the keyboard would usually expect you to type the passcode too16:40
arch-nemesisjaydemir: if you do the `find` command TJ suggested, you don't need a for loop, that should work.16:41
TJ-jaydemir: the find command I gave you will find all .odp files in the current directory (".") and all sub-directories, and for each one run the command 'odp2txt {filename.opd} {filename.odp}.txt'  - my command IS NOT correct for your exact requirement it needs modifying if we know more aobut your scenario16:41
jaydemirI might actually need the loop, it seemed to append all the odp files into one txt flie16:42
dbuggerTJ-, this is the output I get: https://pastebin.com/raw/6SverJ3816:42
jaydemirbasically I'll have all my odp files in one directory (1.odp, 2.odp, ...n.odp) and I want to convert each one into a .txt file with matching names16:42
jaydemirso I'll end up with (1.odp, 1.txt, 2.odp, 2.txt... n.odp, n.txt)16:43
TJ-jaydemir: is it definitely 'odp2txt' you want to tun, not 'odt2txt' ?16:43
jaydemiryes, these are coming off slideshows16:43
dreamscapeHi all just installed nvidia drivers to my new pc with a gt 1030 but im getting Fatal server error16:43
jaydemirthe command works, I just want to script it to do them all automatically16:44
dreamscape(EE) no screens found (EE)16:44
TJ-jaydemir: ahhh, yes, odt2txt is a multi-call binary that can also be called as odp2txt16:44
arch-nemesissince I suck at find, I'd do it like this:   for i in {1..10}; do odp2txt "$i.odp" > "$i.txt"; done16:44
whoeveron 20.04 with ALSA audio, how do I change the source in termial. there doesn't seem to be asoundcon8f in the repos and f6 in alsamixer isn't staying16:46
arch-nemesisalso, make sure you make a backup of those odp files before trying any command you see from weirdos in IRC :)16:46
TJ-jaydemir: this will only do the current directory, and it'll create 1 output file per input file:  "find . -maxdepth 1 -type f -name '*.odp' -exec odp2txt {} --output={}.txt \;  "16:46
TJ-dbugger: "Failed to pair: org.bluez.Error.AuthenticationCanceled" occurs because just beforehand "[CHG] Device CB:DD:B4:5C:4E:E3 Connected: no"16:47
boodllebatHi guys. I recently upgraded to ubuntu 20.04.1 and my wifi keeps disconnecting after some time. This never happened with my privious distro. My wifi product is : Intel Wireless 316016:47
TJ-dbugger: so I think the pairing fails due to the connection dropping before it can complete16:47
TJ-dbugger: silly question but... have you tried turning them off and on again!? (both bluetooth on the PC and the keyboard)16:48
TJ-boodllebat: check the log for clues "journalctl -b 0 -u NetworkManager -n 500" for the last 500 lines16:49
jaydemirthanks TJ- that last command did exactly what I had in mind. The For loop worked well too, but it created txt files for missing ODPs16:49
dbuggerTJ-, I think the keyboard just happened to go out of pairing mode. I tried it again. Look: https://pastebin.com/raw/C8k724te16:49
TJ-dbugger: check the logs "journalctl -u bluetooth -n 50"16:50
boodllebatTJ-: most of the lines say `connection disconnected (reason -4)` or `connection disconnected (reason -3)`16:51
TJ-dbugger: also, in case the kernel is reporting something, "journalctl -k -n 50"16:51
dbuggerTJ-, it seems to say... "No cache for [MAC]"16:52
dbuggerTJ-, here you have: https://pastebin.com/raw/s92XF36q16:52
dbuggerTJ-, and yes, I have tried turning it off and on again :)16:53
boodllebatTJ-: reason -4 is most common16:53
TJ-dbugger: those errors, if I'm looking in the correct place: "EINTR            4      /* Interrupted system call */" and "ESRCH            3      /* No such process */" (error numbers are made negative when passed around)16:53
TJ-oops, ^^^ for boodllebat16:54
dbuggerTJ-, oh wait, it came up!16:54
TJ-dbugger: YAY!16:54
dbuggerTJ-, no wait, not so fast16:55
TJ-NOYAY!16:55
dbuggerTJ-, turning both off... turning keyboard on FIRST and then bluetooth SECOND, it did give me a PIN16:55
dbuggerbut... even though I type the pin... it is not accepting it :/16:55
boodllebatTJ-: when i restart network manager it works for sometime and then keeps disconnecting. If you google other people are also facing same issue should i upgrade to 2.1016:56
TJ-dbugger: sounds familiar... there are two ways of passing a PIN... one is called "Legacy" and the other 'passcode' or somesuch. Is the keyboard old or new? I've been caught out by nice old-fashioned apple metal keyboards only doing Legacy and causing issues16:56
dbuggerTJ-, the keyboard is new16:57
TJ-boodllebat: check the kernel log for indications of hardware or driver issues: "journalctl -k | grep iwl"16:57
TJ-dbugger: OK, so likely not using Legacy then16:57
dbuggerIs there maybe some way to input the PIN from the wired keyboard?16:57
boodllebatTJ-: it  is full of "iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: No beacon heard and the time event is over already..."16:57
TJ-dbugger: can you show me "pastebinit <( journalctl -b 0 -n 250)"16:58
dbuggerTJ-, https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/x7nXkGRbMj/16:59
TJ-boodllebat: maybe there's a kernel module PARaMater that might help. See "modinfo -F parm iwlwifi"17:01
TJ-dbugger: have you been toggling the RF radio kill switch/key?17:02
dbuggerTJ-, the what??17:02
TJ-dbugger: the log shows lots of unexpected RF Kill Switch activity - think 'aeroplane mode' = turns off the radio transmitters17:02
dbuggerno really idea of how would I even do that..17:03
TJ-dbugger: devices are required to have one, so PCs either have a real hardware switch or a hotkey sequence on the keyboard to do it. You can check it with "rfkill list"17:03
TJ-dbugger: you've got the desktop/GUI "Blueman" manager running as well as bluetoothctl?17:04
dbuggerTJ-, https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/rzB9KK2mqp/17:04
dbuggerYes i do17:04
dbuggerShould I quite it?17:04
dbugger*quit17:04
TJ-dbugger: in that output, hci0 is the "Human Computer Interface", hard block is set by a physical/hot-key whilst soft block is set by software17:05
TJ-dbugger: it would be good to use only one at a time; since they'll both try to register an agent17:05
dbuggerTJ-, I just tried again with bluemon gone. I still get the same problem17:05
dbuggerdo you want again the last log you asked me?17:06
SpeirosHi all. Can someone please re-guide me to the place to get an epson printer/scanner driver for Ubuntu? The printer is wf2830, and I didn't get it working last time, but I did get the scanner working, through a driver. I can't find the link to the similar driver on their site any more though. It appears they've gone anti-Linux.17:06
TJ-dbugger: no, I'm still reading :)17:06
TJ-dbugger: this may be a clue "17:40:48 mercury kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: corrupted ACL packet"17:06
dbuggerTJ-, no idea what that can mean...17:07
TJ-dbugger: I think ACL == Asynchronous Connection-Less - a general data packet17:09
TJ-dbugger: BT operates in the same 2.4GHz radio band as 802.11b/g/n Wifi, baby monitors, wireless CCTV, door-bells, microwave ovens and more... so this could be caused by powerful local radio transmitters, including the wifi in the PC, phones nearby, and more17:10
TJ-dbugger: what is the PC make/model? "journalctl -k | grep 'DMI:' "17:11
dbuggerMmm... I have a Logitech Unifying Receiver attached to the PC too17:11
dbuggerShould I maybe remove it?17:11
dbuggerI think it also works in 2.417:12
TJ-dbugger: worth a try!17:12
dbuggerLets see...17:12
TJ-dbugger: this is a long shot but I've seen several issues like this17:12
dbuggerTJ-, if I do it, I cant use the mouse... can you tell me the command to turn bluetooth off and on with the terminal? =P17:13
TJ-dbugger: and here's another option... a bug report I worked on when getting a similar issue. See my comment #29 for a possible workaround https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/149034717:14
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1490347 in bluez (Ubuntu Wily) "[Regression] 16:04 + 15:10 - Cannot pair with devices using (legacy LMP Link Management Protocol) PIN codes" [High,Triaged]17:14
TJ-dbugger: in bluetoothctl type "help"  --- e.g. "power on/off"17:15
dbuggerTJ-, no, that didnt do it... could I have the bluetooth dongle too close to the wifi card?17:15
TJ-dbugger: I think it's unlikely so out this RF interfence on the back-burner17:16
TJ-dbugger: take a look at that comment #29 of mine17:16
dbuggerTJ-, you mean those 9 step ?17:17
Belial"/quit17:18
TJ-dbugger: yeah, in that the key thing is to initiate the pairing from the keyboard, not the PC17:19
dbuggerTJ-, how do you start the pairing from a keyboard that is not connected...? I dont understand17:20
TJ-dbugger: put it into pairing mode and then type a PIN code which should be prompted for by the PC17:21
TJ-dbugger: on that Apple keyboard of mine I had to type the PIN on the numeric keypad AND press the keypad's Enter key to be successful - only took me 2 years to figure that out :D17:22
TJ-dbugger: notice how in my comment I started the 'connect XX:XX...' operation in bluetoothctl just before typing the PIN on the keyboard17:23
dbuggerTJ-, on step 6 you say "CONNECT to the BT keyboard" and in step 7 you say "Type the PIN"17:23
dbuggerbut there is no PIN from just connecting... did you mean "pair"?17:23
TJ-dbugger: look at the actual output I included - the pairing succeeds, initiated from the keyboard. There is no need to initiate it from the PC17:24
dbuggerTJ-, I am seeing your log. But it is weird. You get a PIN, after "connect MAC", I do not17:25
dbuggerI only get a PIN after "pair MAC"17:25
dbuggerBut let me try again from the start17:25
TJ-dbugger: my point is you don't need to do "pair MAC" *IF* you just type a PIN on the keyboard which, if it is in pairing mode, will then send that to the PC which'll ask you to enter it to confirm they match17:26
TJ-dbugger: you're typing the PIN on the bluetooth keyboard that is in pairing mode of course17:27
dbuggerTJ-, it is definitely behaving different for me. I do not get a PIN after I "connect MAC"... I dont know why17:28
dbuggerTJ-, you think that is because I am not initializing the pairing from the keyboard?17:29
TJ-dbugger: it is a possibility - we have no clues from the logs so got to experiment!17:29
dbuggerTJ-, yeah, I am not getting the PIN number just from "connect MAC" :/17:32
TJ-dbugger: no you won't; that only happens AFTER typing a PIN on the keyboard when it is in pairing mode, which causes it to send a pairing request to the PC, which responds by asking you for the PIN17:33
dbuggerwait wiat17:34
TJ-dbugger: your MX may be different but as I've hit that issue it is possible other devices need the same sequence17:34
dbuggerso I have to: 1) turn on BT keyboard 2) Set pair mode 3) Type a PIN17:34
dbuggerand the try the "connect MAC" in the PC?17:35
TJ-dbugger: not quite... 2.5) type "connect MAC" in bluetoothctl17:35
TJ-dbugger: if you're lucky the MX will send the pairing request to the PC which will then 4) Request PIN code17:36
dbuggerOhhh, I think I understand17:36
dbuggerLet me try...17:36
dbuggerNot working...17:37
dbuggerSo, in step 3, I am the one actually deciding that the PIN should be?17:37
TJ-dbugger: correct17:37
TJ-usually 4 to 6 digits then press Enter17:38
dbuggerWell, it does not seem to be working... I am setting a 6-number PIN, and it is not sending it :/17:38
TJ-dbugger: does the keyboard have a numeric keypad?17:38
=== Pici` is now known as Pici
felixito which package mail command belongs to?17:39
TJ-dbugger: I found that it was VERY important after each attempt to "remove MAC" to clear the saved device details17:39
dbuggerYeah, I am doing that17:40
dbuggerTJ-, yes it does. I am using the numeric pad17:40
dbuggerTJ-, nah... nothing... the Keyboard is not sending any pairing request :/17:41
TJ-dbugger: OK, try using the main keyboard num-keys and Enter key instead, just in case17:41
dbuggerok17:41
TJ-dbugger: OK, so possibly not the cause if this isn't helping, in which case I'm out of ideas for now! Does the keyboard pair with other devices OK?17:41
dbuggernothing...17:43
dbuggerTJ-, yes, it does par with a laptop I have just fine17:43
dbuggerIt shouldnt be this hard...17:45
dbuggerI might have to give up on bluetooth, and use its frigging Unifying receiver17:46
peter22222hi folks... is there a way to prevent guest mode users from shutting down the system?17:46
dbuggerOk, I give up17:50
dbuggerTJ-, thanks for the help anyway17:50
dbugger+100 karma for you17:50
TJ-dbugger: good luck with it!17:50
rfmpeter22222, it's controlled in polkit somewhere. the authorization stems from being on the console, so even if you did change it, they could still log out and shut down from the login screen, or just use the power button...17:53
TJ-dbugger: comment #5 is similar to what we did earlier but different enough to be worth trying https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=24963717:53
peter22222rfm thank you. log out and shutdown or power button would not be a problem. I m using xfce4. is there a way to edit the "shut down" buttons?17:57
dbuggerTJ-, nothing. Keeps ignoring me, when I type the PIN and press ENTER17:58
whoeverhi all with alsa audio how do I change my audio F6 won't keep or change and I can't find asoundconf . can someone assist17:58
lotuspsychjepeter22222: whats your endgoal with all this, are you looking for some sort of kiosk mode?17:59
peter22222lotuspsychje i like to run kind of a terminal-PC in guest mode, so you can just go there and browser the internet and when you finish you just turn off the screen instead of shutting down..18:01
lotuspsychjepeter22222: yeah, that sounds like a kiosk mode, there are a few packages for that on the repos/snaps you can try18:02

Maiklibreoffice maybe20:07
RoadRunnersure it has these 2 features?20:08
g3poandlslRoadRunner, MasterPDF20:09
g3poandlslif you can find a download link for version 4, it's free for non-commercial use with no watermark20:09
TJ-MasterPDF is worth paying for as well20:10

RuudWeird issue. We have 2 LANs: 10.x and 192.x. I have VM's running in 10.x. On a VM with ubuntu 20.04 I did an apt upgrade. Suddenly the VM can't reach anything on 192.x anymore20:11
RuudFrom my laptop, in 192.x, I can't ssh to the server anymore. I can still ssh to another server in 10.x and from that server ssh to the upgraded host.20:11
RuudFrom the upgraded host, ping to a 192.x address gives 'network unreachable'20:11
RuudWhat can it be?20:11
jonecirHello folks: I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 and today when I launched PHPMyAdmin I've got the following error: "the mysqli extension is missing. please check your php configuration"20:11
jonecirI followed some tutorial on how to enable it, but no success, still same error20:11
TJ-Ruud: check the routing table; sounds like it is missing a route for 192.168.0.0/16 or whatever20:12
RoadRunnerTJ-: were you reffering to libreoffice or to MasterPDF?20:12
TJ-RoadRunner: MasterPED20:12
TJ-oops, MasterPDF20:12
RuudThanks TJ- I'll see how to do that20:12
TJ-Ruud: "ip route show"20:12
RoadRunnerg3poandlsl: don't think I saw Master PDF in Snap store... could you suggest a place/link for ver 4?20:13
g3poandlslRoadRunner, I don't know if the company's site still has public links to v4. https://code-industry.net/masterpdfeditor/20:14
g3poandlslas TJ mentioned, MasterPDF is certainly worth paying for20:14
RoadRunnerthank's I'll look into it; as a back up, any suggestions for a free app just for signature import?20:15
RuudTJ- I see a lot with ip route show, because this is a docker host. But I am missing a line which is present on another host: default via 10.0.0.1 dev ens160 proto dhcp src 10.0.0.91 metric 100 How do I get that added to the routing table?20:17
TJ-Ruud: are these systems using systemd-networkd to manage the network ?20:18
TJ-Ruud: possibly with its config generated by netplan via files in /etc/netplan/20:18
RuudTJ- Ahh it worked with 'ip route add default via 10.0.0.1 ....' etc. Replacing ens160 and src IP with appropriate values20:20
RuudSuper, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the routing table! Never too old to learn20:21
TJ-Ruud: that won't hold after a reboot though; the default gateway should be set in the config20:22
RuudAhh20:25

NeffscapeGood evening everybody. I have a question. After the last upgrade from 20.04 to 20.10, my customized dark shell theme, is showing a white box in the notification panel (where the "today" events are shown. I think I could manually modify the theme, but I can't figure out by myself how to change the style of this element of the theme. Where can I find a documentation to do it?20:56
jonecirHello folks. I upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04. Command: php -v shows I have 7.4.11. Launching phpinfo.php shows in the first line: "PHP Version 7.3.23-4+ubuntu18.04.1+deb.sury.org+1"21:11
Deano59jonecir: you probably have the old one installed, remove it and try to install it again.21:20
Deano59or --reinstall21:20
Deano59did you upgrade *everything* ?21:20
jonecirDeano59: yes I did a complete upgrade on my system21:22
tomreynjonecir: you have php installed form a PPA which uses different package names and provides different versions than ubuntu itself.21:22
jonecirtomreyn: I tried to install php, mysql, apache but then the system says I have the latest installed21:24
jonecirtomreyn: I figured this because my phpmyadmin is not running: "the mysqli extension is missing. please check your php configuration"21:25
tomreyndo you intend to use the ppa, or not?21:25
jonecirtomreyn: I'm not sure what you mean by using ppa21:25
tomreyn!ppa21:26
ubottuA Personal Package Archive (PPA) can provide alternate software not normally available in the offical Ubuntu repositories - Looking for a PPA? See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas - WARNING: PPAs are unsupported third-party packages, and you use them at your own risk. See also !addppa and !ppa-purge21:26
tomreynyou configured your system to use this ppa https://launchpad.net/~ondrej/+archive/ubuntu/php?field.series_filter=focal21:26
tomreynwe can't know why you did so, but you should know.21:26
jonecirtomreyn: I also have no idea how and why I did this21:27
jonecirtomreyn: is there a  way to get rid of it?21:27
tomreyni'm sorry to hear that you apply changes to your computer that you do not understand, that's undesirable.21:27
tomreynyou can use ppa-purge to remove a ppa and packages installed form it21:28
tomreyn!ppa-purge21:28
ubottuTo disable a PPA from your sources and revert your packages back to default Ubuntu packages, install ppa-purge and use the command: « sudo ppa-purge ppa:<repository-name>/<subdirectory> » – For more information, see http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/remove-ppa-repositories-via-command.html21:28
tomreynor you can keep using it if you prefer. but ubuntu 20.04 also provides php 7.4, so i guess you don't need the ppa.21:28
tomreynunless it provides packages which are not available in ubuntu21:29
tomreynhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/php21:29
jonecirtomreyn: as I told before, executing php -v it shows I have 7.4.1121:29
tomreynphp version 7.4 is what ubuntu 20.04 provides21:29
jonecirbut on phpinfo.php it shows "PHP Version 7.3.23-4+ubuntu18.04.1+deb.sury.org+1"21:30
tomreynyes, the php CLI variant executes php 7.4.11 on your system, because you installed it from ubuntu's repositories21:30
tomreynand the php-sapi/cgi/fpm/... variant executes php 7.3.23 which you have installed (as package 7.3) from the given ppa21:31
tomreyn*package php7.321:31
RoadRunnerany idea why MasterPDF Editor 4 doesn't see jpg's made by iPhone 4 (OS 7.1.2)?21:32
tomreynif you run    apt policy php php7.3 php7.4    this will show where each package was installed from21:32

jonecirtomreyn: can you help me fix the "the mysqli extension is missing. please check your php configuration"21:38
jonecirtomreyn: I cannot launch the PHPMyAdmin21:38
tomreynjonecir: i tired to explain the root cause. you have parts of two different distrobutions og php installed. this channel supports no PPAs, only the software which comes with ubuntu. in Ubuntu 20.04, there is one PHP version available, which is php 7.4.x. you should make a choice as which PHP distribution you would like to use, since mixing the one from the sury PPA and the one from ubuntu proper is not going to work.21:41
tomreynonce you made this decision, you should remove the other distribution, and then install any pending or missing php packages from the distribution you chose to keep.21:41
jonecirtomreyn: I understand. I'm fine using the 7.4.11 from 20.04.21:42
tomreyntired -> tried (but I'm tired, too)21:42
tomreynjonecir: so then you want to remove the PPA and remove packages installed from this PPA. how do you remove a PPA and remove all packages from said PPA?21:43
tomreynjonecir: if you don't know, scroll up and read again what ubottu told you.21:44
jonecirtomreyn: I will try that. Thank you very much for your help.21:44
tomreynjonecir: you're welcome, also to ask for more assitence here if this is not working out for somereasons or you have more questions about it.21:45

sarnoldRoadRunner: my wild guess is that masterpdf doesn't do libheif21:50
RoadRunnersarnold: what's libheif?21:59
sarnoldRoadRunner: it's a library that supports the new image format used by some newer phones22:00

sarnoldRoadRunner: ah, then perhaps it's another file format that's missing, perhaps jpeg2000?22:04

RoadRunnerI already got gimp installed, the question is into which format of jpg to convert to have a reliable and universaly usable result?22:15
RoadRunnerin case anyone's interested, the problem is solved by exporting the image in gimp as a "jpeg". In image metadata, 2 field are changed in the Exif tag: "Exif.Image.ExifTag" and "Exif.Image.Software"22:47
