hellsworthoh good evening folks :)06:16
seb128hey jibel, callmepk, duflu 06:16
dufluHi seb128 and hellsworth(!?)06:17
callmepkgood morning seb128 hellsworth 06:17
seb128election night tonight? or it is tommrow?06:17
hellsworthwell wanted to get a thing building before bed :)06:17
hellsworthelection is all day tomorrow06:17
hellsworthtomorrow night will be all the drinks to match :)06:17
seb128:-)06:17
seb128how does it work in the U.S, do you get partial results as the day or night go?06:18
jibelsalut callmepk duflu seb128 hellsworth 06:19
hellsworthwell states results will be tallied all day through the day tomorrow but because of the massive amount of mail in voting, it will probably take days for the final count to be done06:19
seb128(in France they disclose the winner at 8pm, no public live count)06:19
hellsworthbut that won't stop trump from declaring victory tomorrow06:19
seb128he will right? :(06:19
hellsworthhe totally will. and there will be a battle put on by his party to not count the mail in votes past tomorrow too. it will be a dirty fight...06:20
hellsworthimho all the votes should be counted, however long that takes.06:21
seb128right06:21
hellsworththey've started erecting an anti-scaling wall around the white house too..06:21
hellsworthsuch drama!06:21
seb128I saw that on the news yesterday...06:21
seb128also the money spent and TV ads06:22
hellsworthoh it's nuts.. why can't we spend even half of that money on healthcare and schools and such06:22
seb128they said each candidate spent 2.3 billions on their campagne, compared to French president who spent 16 millions06:22
hellsworthbattling covid for instance06:22
hellsworththat's wild06:22
seb128indeed...06:22
hellsworthso much money for two old white guys to yell at each other06:23
seb128right, the old white men thing is a bit sad as well :-/06:24
hellsworthit'll be really interesting to see how the next two days plays out06:26
hellsworthi'm totally going to make popcorn tomorrow :)06:26
seb128:-)06:26
dufluOne thing recent news reports seem to agree on is that declaring victory early is legally meaningless06:31
hellsworthright but tell that to the supporters that are ready to riot06:31
* duflu nods06:31

seb128tkamppeter, thanks15:00
didrocks1does anyone know how to get the default value (default as "empty", not distro default) for a given gvariant type?15:01
didrocks1tried to parse with "" or anything that doesn’t match and it will only reject the gvariant, not give an "empty" one (but typed)15:01
didrocks1also <default> is required in the schema, so you can’t even cheat by creating a schema file and use glib-compile-schemas without <default> to have the empty value for the given type15:02
Laneydidrocks1: wdym, i'm not sure I understand what the meaning of empty is?15:15
didrocks1Laney: like, for an as, the empty value would be for []15:17
didrocks1empty \ default default rather :)15:17
didrocks1as if you instantiate a variable from a type without assigning15:17
didrocks1so a bool would false15:17
didrocks1and so on…15:17
didrocks1more complex with nested gvariant type including tuple in dict in arrays…15:18
Trevinhodidrocks1: mh, not sure you can't get the default per type...15:26
didrocks1Trevinho: looks like it. We will need to do a manual parser :/15:29
Trevinhoshouldn't be too long, but maybe worth inclusion in gio15:29
Laneywhat is the question here? something like: given a gvariant format string, give me a gvariant?15:32
didrocks1Laney: I have @as, give me [], I have (ii), give me (0, 0), I have b, give me false15:33

seb128kenvandine, using GTK_USE_PORTAL in thunderbird is fine right? one feedback we got on discourse is that you couldn't attach files from remote location, turned out the portal were not used for the fileselector (only the appselector), I pushed that change to edge and it seems to work fine (also firefox has it enabled)16:39
kenvandineseb128: yes, it's fine16:54
