[12:20] firefox doesn't work. terminal unable to fetch to fetch [12:22] Which version of Lubuntu are you using? [12:22] latest [12:22] installed it a few days ago on this notebook [12:22] but also installed mongodb and pyenv [12:23] yesterday i still had internet in browser and terminal also [12:24] Which version did you download though? We have 3 on our downloads page. [12:26] can i type something in terminal to find out which version i have? [12:27] i wrote lubuntu 20 on the dvd i have it on [12:27] it was a few weeks ago when i downloaded it [12:27] `lsb_release -a` [12:27] lsb_release -a [12:27] No LSB modules are available. [12:27] Distributor ID: Ubuntu [12:27] Description: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS [12:27] Release: 20.04 [12:27] Codename: focal [12:27] Ok thanks. [12:28] ty [12:30] Obviously the computer is connected to the Internet since IRC is working. You could look in preferences -> Advanced Network Connections to make sure everything is in order. [12:31] yeah it should be. i tried ethernet cable also. same thing [12:31] connected through wifi at the moment [12:32] don't know why it can't resolve http(s):// addresses [12:32] That sounds like a DNS issue. [12:34] You could open a terminal and try to `ping 8.8.8.8` that pings Google's DNS. You can use ctrl + c to stop your ping. [12:34] Network is unreachable [12:34] ping 8.8.8.8 [12:34] ping: connect: Network is unreachable [12:36] It might be worthwhile to restart your router or look at the settings there to make sure nothing strange is going on. [12:36] Or try another device on the same network [12:37] other devices work [12:37] am googling with my smartphone atm [12:37] connected through wif [12:40] So if you right click on the network icon in the tray and select connection information does everything look right? [12:41] i haven't checked it before. but it looks like i would imagine it to be right [12:42] don't know about DNS(1): fe80::1 [12:42] it has pv6 ip addresses [12:42] Yeah, that doesn't sound right [12:42] subnet masks all are ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:: [12:45] It sounds like DHCP didn't hand out DNS to your device possibly. [12:48] Your dns is the localhost, change to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 [12:55] okay thank you so far guys. helps alot. unfortunately i have to go for a few hours now. but ty ty ty [12:56] Take care and good luck. [12:56] will try to work it out later. but im a little bit smarter now. have a nice day [14:48] is it possible to downgrade 20.10 to 20.04 lubuntu [14:48] ? === BrianG61UK_ is now known as BrianG61UK === gary is now known as Guest81966 === dax is now known as housecat
