studiobot<teward001> not yet been busy16:47
studiobot<Eickmeyer> @teward001 Ok, just whenever you have a free cycle. :)16:50
OvenWerksEickmeyer[m]: two perhaps useful packages to add: gphoto2 v4l2loopback-utils v4l2loopback-dkms17:42
OvenWerksthe last two one is the dep of the other.17:42
OvenWerksReason for adding? -> https://medium.com/nerdery/dslr-webcam-setup-for-linux-9b6d1b79ae2217:42
OvenWerksbetter use of OBS17:42
OvenWerksHaving said that, I could not get it to work yet. Adding the kernel module (v4l2loopback-dkms) does make my camera show up but the loopback command doesn't work for me (using VLC or cheese or OBS)17:46
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: I'll add it to my list. :)17:59
OvenWerksI can add my dslr to OBS using gphoto2 --stdout --capture-movie | ffplay - 18:00
OvenWerkswhich creates a window and then using that window in OSB rather than the v4l loopback18:01
Eickmeyer[m]Yeah, totally. That's something that game streamers want, and something that is 100% part of my vision for this project.18:02
OvenWerksthe v4l loopback would be nicer though. I will work on that... at some time18:03
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: Yeah, gphoto2 is easy since it's already in the archive.18:04
OvenWerksv4l loopback is too18:04
Eickmeyer[m]Yeah, it all is. Are we looking to make a frontend for this?18:05
* OvenWerks has to get it all to work first18:05
Eickmeyer[m]Ok, bet. If we can make a front-end that makes this braindead simple ala studio-controls, I'm all for it.18:06
Eickmeyer[m]In fact, I'm in love with this idea.18:07
MauroGaspari[m]Eickmeyer: remember the libvirt bug I told you about? virsh/virt-manager complaining that storage is not btrfs, refusing to mount storagte. It is fixed already 😍18:08
OvenWerksIt would be easy to add the load module at boot button (similar to the use ffado maodules18:08
Eickmeyer[m]Mauro Gaspari: Gotta love it when bugfixes do their job. :)18:08
MauroGaspari[m]well, it is in proposed. but I just tested it and it works nicely now. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virt-manager/+bug/190124218:09
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1901242 in libvirt (Ubuntu Groovy) "virt-manager local directory storage failing" [Medium,Fix committed]18:09
Eickmeyer[m]Yep, an SRU. I just finished an SRU for darktable this morning. I've gotten quite used to writing those. :)18:09
OvenWerksThe module does not interfere with the use of entangle either18:09
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: Yeah, since we already have the framework and have been there before, I'd say this would be a great target for this cycle.18:09
OvenWerksI will add it to my list...18:10
MauroGaspari[m]OvenWerks: you asked to test if autojack/studio controls crash in 20.10. I managed to get it to crash a few times. I was trying to break network-manager by starting VPNs with wrong settings, cancelling connection while it attempted to connect. that triggered a crash of my panel (probably nm-applet) and then the panel restarted. when that happened, studio controls (autojack) crashed too.18:12
MauroGaspari[m]Do you want me to attempt recreate and save logs?18:12
OvenWerkssure18:13
OvenWerksbest with log level set to extra of course18:14
MauroGaspari[m]outside of that crazy test I did, it is rock solid. I will try to break it again and keep an eye on it. actually let me fire up Timeshift before I do that 😅18:14
MauroGaspari[m]OvenWerks: I will check that tomorrow. I just realized it is 2AM here wooopsss. see you guys later 😴18:16
OvenWerkso/18:16
Eickmeyer[m]SLEEP Mauro Gaspari , it's for your own good!18:17
RikMillsI expect you all noticed, but Qt 5.15 is here and plasma 5.20 is landing...18:18
* OvenWerks wonders if that is release or git (-controls that is)18:18
RikMillsand some kde applications updates18:19
OvenWerksRikMills: cool.18:19
Eickmeyer[m]RikMills: Cool.18:20
RikMillss/cool/kool18:20
* Eickmeyer[m] really needs to get a hirsute environment going other than his packaging server18:21
RikMillsEickmeyer[m]: do you have kde 'user-manager' package in your seeds? if so, when new plasma desktop migrates it will obsolete it, as the KCM has been reworked and merged into that21:02
Eickmeyer[m]RikMills: I'll double-check, but I'm pretty sure we do. If that's the case, will it just go transitional-dummy, or should I remove it from the seed?21:03
Eickmeyer[m](Just confirmed, we do carry it)21:04
RikMillsEickmeyer[m]: I woiuld remove from seed either way, but I am waiting to see what debian do regards a transitional package before I add one21:04
Eickmeyer[m]RikMills: Works for me. :)21:04
RikMillskool21:05
Eickmeyer[m]It's a recommends, so it'll just get dropped from the metas as soon as I do a refresh.21:05
RikMillsgreat21:05
RikMillsEickmeyer[m]: note: because of same files, plasma-desktop has to break/replace it, so if people ask if that is ok to allow it to be removed, then obviously the answer is yes21:07
Eickmeyer[m]Makes sense. I doubt we'll have too many people upset about it this early in the cycle, so I think we're good to go.21:08
RikMillsyeah, I just mention to cover all bases21:08
Eickmeyer[m]CYA. Got it. :)21:08
RikMills:)21:08
OvenWerksit appears v4l2loopback is broken in 20.0422:04
OvenWerksEickmeyer: see: https://github.com/umlaeute/v4l2loopback/issues/370#issuecomment-723181424 and https://github.com/umlaeute/v4l2loopback/issues/370#issuecomment-72322859022:05
=== verz_broke is now known as veremitz
OvenWerksEickmeyer: I can confirm that installing the 20.10 package just works22:05
OvenWerks(in 20.04 using dpkg i as suggested)22:06
OvenWerksAs 20.04 is LTS it would make sense to fix this maybe?22:06
OvenWerksEickmeyer: also, while talking adding packages  ;)  there is an OBS module that would be nice to add.22:51
OvenWerkshttps://github.com/CatxFish/obs-v4l2sink22:56
OvenWerksThis OBS module allows the output of OBS to show up on linux as a video device (like another camera)22:57
OvenWerksThis means that obs could be used as the camera in online conferencing tools like zoom, hangouts, skype, etc.22:58
* OvenWerks now has two Camaera batteries to install23:01
OvenWerksEickmeyer: Bug #190392623:17
ubottubug 1903926 in v4l2loopback (Ubuntu) "Device '/dev/video1' is not a output device - While device seen as output by v4l2-ctl" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/190392623:17
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: That's brilliant, but that bug...23:19
Eickmeyer[m]We might be able to SRU that.23:19
Eickmeyer[m]I mean, so long as the diff isn't gigantic.23:20
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: Looks like there's an SRU for it now: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/v4l2loopback/+bug/190149123:27
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1901491 in v4l2loopback (Ubuntu Focal) "Created devices are not available" [High,Fix committed]23:27
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: Would that do the trick?23:29
