user72whello. I am using xubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (but I was having this problem with 19.04 and 19.10 too). Sometimes (not very often) when I play a streaming video (youtube, vimeo) the streaming gets stuck. When this happens the problem is across all browsers, all streaming sites. Closing all browser and all user initiated programs does not fix the issue. The08:12
user72wonly solution is a machine restart.08:12
user72wI'd like to ask how to approach debugging or finding more information about the problem, I really don't know where to start from. Right now the problem manifests so I could ran some commands if needed08:13

gnrpuser72w: Sounds like a very weird issue, but maybe something gpu-related or to the decoding?09:24
gnrpcan you play regular videos then still?09:24
user72wgnrp I can still play regular local videos and google meet works fine (but this could be due to codecs etc being bundled in chrome?)09:28
user72wI agree it's very weird and I don't know where to start looking at...09:29
gnrpuser72w: And what does "get stuck" mean? It is loading indefinitely?09:31
gnrpuser72w: When you try youtube-dl, does this still work?09:31
user72wgets stucks as in Youtube showing a "there is a problem, please restart your device" (or similar message) and others like vimeo loop forever10:47
user72wHaven't tried youtube-dl, can give it a shot10:47
user72wloop forever == loading indefinitely10:51
diogenes_try to ping google.com in terminal when loop happens.10:52
user72wwell that's fun... I never let the "problem" persist and then test again. I either restarted the machine or just ignored it until I closed the machine. But now it works again...10:55
user72wdiogenes_ RE ping, I can't do it right now, but I doubt it will show anything useful. All google services I use and the internet in general just works fine and speedy10:56
user72wPS the auto-fix took about 3 hours so not sth I can just wait for. Anyway, I'll check the youtube-dl next time this happens10:57
gnrpI never saw a website recommending me to restart my device so far. Oo12:33
user72wyoutube can show the message "if playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device" if something goes very wrong12:36
user72wthat's ^ the accurate message12:36
Maikuser72w: that pops up when you have a slow or bad internet connection, low end devices like the Pi suffers from that too13:05
Maikthat's my experience by the way13:13
Maikuser72w: https://techcult.com/wiki/fix-if-playback-doesnt-begin-shortly-try-restarting-your-device/13:13
Maikthere are many topics and solutions to be found on the matter by the way13:19
talinhello. i am having a lot of problems with the screensaver turning on really quickly, and seems to disregard any of my settings..  turns on after like 30 seconds13:26
talinany known fixes for this problem?13:26
diogenes_talin, in terminal run: ps aux | grep saver | nc termbin.com 999913:29
diogenes_and: ps aux | grep lock | nc termbin.com 999913:29
diogenes_share both urls.13:29
talindiogenes_: alright, i have to disable vpn and have to save some stuff first13:35
talinhttp://termbin.com/z55813:54
talinhttp://termbin.com/lspm13:54
diogenes_talin, so the problem is that it doesn't respect the settings?13:58
talindiogenes_: yes, it seems to ignore them. let me open the settings and see what they are14:01
talinpower manager says suspect "never"14:02
talindisplay power management says put to sleep "never"14:02
talinhmm, on "switch on after" it was greyed out but 1 minute was selected14:03
talinmaybe that's where the problem lies14:03
talini thought it was disabled like the other grey fields14:03
dp2Hello. i've installed xubuntu 20.04 wi zfs root. Just after installation I make apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade   and after reboot system doesn't boot. (boot only in recovery mode with previous kernel). Is it known bug ?15:02
dp2Hello. i've installed xubuntu 20.04 with zfs root. Just after installation I make apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade   and after reboot system doesn't boot. (boot only in recovery mode with previous kernel). Is it known bug ?15:02
gnrpdp2: What does it mean it does not boot anymore?15:27
dp2Doesn't boot it means doesn't boot. After restart I have blank scree forever. But sorry - it boot not every time. For unknown reason very seldom it managed to boot. But in most time - it hang with black screen just after select grub menu15:42
dp2I have ThinkPad x260 with Micron_1300 ssd disk15:45
dp2when upgrade it says something like this15:47
dp2update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.8.0-28-genericI: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/sda2I: (UUID=09e25397-4a2c-4fb0-a605-a7013eecb59c)I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.15:47
diogenes_and?15:49
dp2and after upgrade fresh system it hangs while boot in 90%15:53
diogenes_it means it boots only once out of 10 attempts?15:56
dp2+/-15:58
diogenes_remuve quiet splash and see where exactly it hangs.15:59
dp2I try to remove  "quiet splash" from kernel parameters in grub menu entry when boot. But in hung again just after I press Ctrl-X15:59
diogenes_try a previous kernel16:00
dp2previous kernel alvays boot in recovery mode, but in normal mode hung occasionally too16:01
dp2befire upgrade it boots every time16:01
diogenes_try also with nomodeset and acpi=off16:02
dp2I've tried boot from usb stick, and do zfs rollback to all zfs partitions? after this previous verisions boot every time in normal mode16:02
dp2zfs partitions? = zfs partitions.  (it's not a question)16:03
dp2  I've changed "quiet splas" to " nomodeset acpi=off" but it hangs again with no messages. Just blank screen16:06
diogenes_so it's ZFS?16:08
dp2yes, it's my second sentence here -  i've installed xubuntu 20.04 wi zfs root.16:09
dp2I thought that with zfs it will be very convenient to cope with upgrade problems))16:11
dp2but upgrade in zfs seems the problem inself...16:11
dp2I found than something is broken in initrd images after update. I've mount original /boot partition from snapshot, take inird images and with old initrd system boot every time17:30
dp2when I return new initrd - it hangs17:31
dp2zfs is greate things ! Without it I must boot with usb and replace initrd by hand17:33
dp2Thing became more strange. Size & md5sum of initrds different, but content - the same! Both have one file kernel/x86/microcode/AuthenticAMD.bin18:14
dp2https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/HHM5nJjr4d/18:14
dp2Who can explain his ?18:15
tomreyndp2: it's actually multiple archives, concatenated18:24
tomreynyou only investigated the first one, which contains the amd microcode update18:24
tomreynthe initrd archive is the next one18:24
tomreynUsage: lsinitramfs [-l] <initramfs file>18:25
tomreynUsage: unmkinitramfs [-v] <initramfs file> <directory>18:27
dp2why I suddenly disconnect and cann't connect again (only from main page)?19:30
