=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [15:58] Hi all, I just installed xubuntu 20.10 on my netbook. [15:58] But it doesn't get in the login manager. Or whatever that's called :-) [15:59] I get a mouse pointer and then it switches back to the console and then again to the mouse pointer etc etc [16:00] rgh: how much ram does your netbook have? [16:01] physical, installed [16:01] 2 gb [16:01] I think 🤔 [16:01] 30 Gb hdd (which I found out is really a SD) [16:02] i'm not sure it's the lack of ram causing what you're seeing, but 2 GB is certainly not much. [16:02] I had Manjaro and one xubuntu installed before on this device [16:02] especially if the gpu also takes some of it [16:02] Manjaro xfce btw [16:03] you could post a full system log, if the system is online: journalctl -b | nc termbin.com 9999 [16:03] Is there a way to install a cli only with the xubuntu iso? [16:03] you may need to swithc to a TTY before you can run the above command, and login there. [16:04] !tty [16:04] To get to the TTY terminals 3-6, use the keystroke Ctrl + Alt + F3-F6 respectively. Ctrl-Alt-F2 or Ctrl-Alt-F1 will get you back to your graphical login (Ctrl-Alt-F7 on 16.04). To change TTY resolution, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ChangeTTYResolution [16:04] I'm not online I'm afraid. [16:04] Yes, but switching to tty1 or 2 also flips the screen as mentioned above [16:04] maybe you can connect it via ethernet, or by a USB tethered smartphone [16:05] by flip, you mean upside down? [16:05] Wait. Can I share video in matrix / element? [16:05] to get a CLI only installation you'd install ubuntu-server [16:06] i don't know what matrix / element is. i'm communicating with you on IRC, which does not support screensharing. [16:07] Matrix is like irc on stereiods [16:07] And it bridges to irc (I'm on matrix now) [16:07] Element is the client [16:08] But. Can I install a cli from the 20.10 iso? [16:09] if by "a CLI" you mean "not a graphical desktop", then i don't think you can. [16:09] Crap [16:09] that's if "the 20.10 iso" refers to the xubuntu 20.10 iso. [16:09] Yes [16:10] Iso boots fine ofc [16:10] you could remove the desktop after the fact though [16:10] Oh nice idea [16:10] If I can stay in the tty1 and not being thrown (and fail) in tty7 [16:11] Nope [16:11] It's fubar [16:11] i'm not sure what you'Re doing [16:12] Ctrl alt f1 [16:12] try F3..F6 instead === ikonia_ is now known as ikonia [16:14] Trying rescue root prompt [16:20] you can provide the !bootparm systemd.target=multi-user.target for a CLI startup [16:38] maybe 20.04 works better [16:38] this is going no where :-( [16:40] thanks for your kind help :-)
