[07:44] It's meant to be a bigger desktop PC that currently has low end parts but this is not the reason for this, this bug happened on 3 different machines. [07:44] one of which had 16GB of ram [07:45] or I think two, but one was a laptop. so it happens on laptops and desktops. [07:45] I'm suspecting it triggers some kind of "go to sleep into SWAP" for many GUI/applications and takes stupdily slow to get back to normal [07:47] And just laggy all throuhgout after that, not usable [07:47] anyway later [07:51] Is plasma 5.20 available on kubuntu ? [07:56] @Utkarsh, Only on 21.04 development release [08:23] sAnTa cLaUs is COMing to ToWn [08:31] hi everybody! How do you disable the automatic update checker which comes with discover? [09:36] hi, is there a gui for APC Smart-UPS to control the UPS? [10:01] leskh was added by: leskh [11:07] hi, what are results if I wouldn't keep updated OS? [11:23] Generally more and more known software vulnerabilities. Plus the longer you postpone updating, the more difficult it will be when you eventually do update. [11:29] thanks === kgolding_ is now known as kgolding [12:57] Hey my kde application are crashing [12:58] When I try to reboot I could able to see the log in screen [12:58] I thought I installed something wrong [12:59] But no on second re-installation after sudo apt update && apt upgrade, im start getting error and could able to work on it it [13:02] Hi folks [15:17] hi! I cannot find a GUI to modify advanced settinsg for users .... do we have one for Kubuntu, similare to Ubuntu> [15:17] ? [15:24] system settings in the menu/app launcher? [15:25] BluesKaj: it does not have advanced settings .... [15:26] not called advanced , but there are some sections with advanced tabs, like window behaiour etc [15:27] BluesKaj: :) .... I really meant for user management, like user creation and modification. group creation and modification, etc. etc. [15:29] give uis an example of what you are trying to do [15:50] BluesKaj: I have a user, and would like to modify the shell of that use, or the user ID. [15:53] !adduser [15:53] To add new users to your Ubuntu system, follow the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AddUsersHowto - For administrative privileges, users need to be made members of the group "sudo" - See !sudo [15:53] BluesKaj: (actually, I use command line, but the person for whom I am configuring the machine needs to use a GUI). [15:53] BluesKaj: yes, but that is not a GUI [15:54] it is a GUI if added to the user group [15:54] BluesKaj: my questions was "I cannot find a GUI to modify advanced settings for users, do we have one for Kubuntu, similar to Ubuntu?" [15:55] BluesKaj: there must be an issue with the current installation then .... [15:55] !sudo [15:55] sudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !pkexec (for older releases: !gksu and !kdesudo). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo [15:55] BluesKaj: because the user cannot see the advanced settings for users and groups [15:56] BluesKaj: I do not understand the sudo point .... [15:59] eeos, suggest you explain your issue in #kde chat [16:00] BluesKaj: OK .... === msalvatore_ is now known as msalvatore [16:01] I'm a single user with no experience about multiple users on the same OS [16:02] BluesKaj: thaks, I have asked in kde! [16:03] I see that [16:11] o I see there are complaints and bugs filed about this issue BluesKaj! [16:11] Dominik was added by: Dominik [16:33] fantastic, you simply install gnome-system-tools, and the user can manage the users / groups that way. === msalvatore_ is now known as msalvatore [18:11] im on version 18.10 of kubuntu, how do i update to a more recent version [18:16] hmm [18:16] guess i installed the wrong version of kubuntu [18:16] didnt realise it would just be totally abandoned like this [18:19] didnt realise "unsupported after 9 months" meant "you wont be able to install anything or upgrade after this period of time" [21:59] Tolga Erok was added by: Tolga Erok
