tarzeaui'm here to suggest to add some more software to ubuntu studio13:58
OvenWerkstarzeau: do you have package names and rational for them as well?15:27
OvenWerksOh and licencing for each package too.15:28
tarzeauOvenWerks: i'm packaging them in debian. package names would be:16:37
tarzeaucheesecutter, grafx2, pt2-clone, shotcut, hdrmerge, photoflow, mm3d16:38
tarzeauwhat would rational be? reason to include? licensing is in the usual place debian/copyright of each package16:39
tarzeauyou might want to add lazpaint, klystrack, hivelytracker, bambootracker, tutka too. what about fonts?16:40
tarzeaufor dtp it's always great to have some, being active in the fonts team, i could suggest some of my favourites16:40
tarzeauqwinff could be handy as well, not sure16:41
OvenWerkstarzeau: packaging in debian generally means we can do that. We get a lot of people asking us to add closed source but free stuff etc.17:18
OvenWerksin the end we need to wait for Eickmeyer to be back.17:21
Eickmeyer[m]tarzeau: What I want to see is the rationale for why we should include each one, especially if there's already something that handles its task. If it duplicates something an already included package does in any way, we can't include it. Our .iso is already the largest of any Ubuntu flavor, and we don't want to increase it if we don't have to.17:22
OvenWerksEickmeyer[m]: hdrmerge may be unique in scope17:25
Eickmeyer[m]OvenWerks: I disagree. Digikam handles the functionality quite well, iirc.17:25
OvenWerksthat shows how much photo-anything I do...17:26
OvenWerksdo we have anything like qwinff?17:36
* OvenWerks normally uses a script17:37
OvenWerksEickmeyer[m]:  ^^17:37
tarzeaui also use a script, it's useful for people that are not familiar with the command line17:44
tarzeauwhat about fonts? and how much do people use/miss libreoffice if it was left away?17:45
tarzeauit's great for small business letters, other than that i prefer inkscape/scribus for dtp work17:45
Eickmeyer[m]tarzeau: Removing libreoffice is off the table. One of Ubuntu Studio's primary purposes is as an all-in-one desktop publishing tool. Libreoffice is also there for presentation (impress) and other work since Ubuntu Studio is meant to be a desktop operating system as well.22:16
Eickmeyer[m]As far as qwinff, looks useful. I'll add it.22:27
Eickmeyer[m]Also very lightweight.22:28
Eickmeyer[m]tarzeau, OvenWerks : I am adding a strong caution with that one though.  While it does appear to be actively developed, last version was released over 5 years ago. Current version in the archives is a git snapshot. It makes me nervous that the dev hasn't made a release in that long.22:31
studiobot<teward001> #BitrotIsAConcern22:57
studiobot<teward001> ;P22:57
Eickmeyer[m]@teward001 Yes, Bitrot is a concern, but there appears to be no bitrot here since it's actively developed with commits as recent as this month. My concern is that there's no release, that everything is running off of git snapshots.23:00
Eickmeyer[m]tarzeau: lazpaint intriques me. What can this do that inkscape and/or krita cannot?23:09
studiobot<teward001> Eickmeyer: which means that actual *release* Bitrot is a concern23:32
studiobot<teward001> surviving strictly on git snapshots is Bad ;)23:32
Eickmeyer[m]@teward001 I agree 100%, which is why I'm adding it with an asterisk. It's already in the archive, so very little to do on our part.23:33
studiobot<teward001> *adds you to the list with an asterisk pointing to a footnote saying "May be unstable, if instability shows up, pour copious amounts of salt on it."*   :P23:33
Eickmeyer[m]Oh, I'm unstable! Ask anyone. HAHA23:34
studiobot<teward001> :P23:36
studiobot<teward001> sorry to derail, i'm just having some small fun ;)23:37
studiobot<Eickmeyer> No worries. I'm just trying to relax before my blood pressure does bad things.23:40
studiobot<teward001> 👍23:47
studiobot<teward001> me being friendly chaotic probably helps23:47
studiobot<teward001> :P23:47
