KonI was just catching up on Qt's roadmap and it hit me that LTS 22.04 will in all likelihood still be using Qt 5.15.2, which puts the distro team in the unfortunate position of having 5 years of security backports within the 3 year mainstream support cycle01:12
KonIn an ideal scenario. I'm not sure that's even close to feasible01:13

viewer|32Hello, I have an Epson V550 scanner, while I've managed to make it work on my Xubuntu system, I have a problem many others have which is that I am only able to scan in document mode. However I want to scan 35mm negatives as I do film photography. I believe KDE offers a robust scanning tool if I'm correct?14:04
viewer|32Thanks in advance.14:04
NewHunter2575Hi, since you're doing photography, can you recommend an alternative app to Lightroom as well?14:05
NewHunter2575I want to import some photos from my Sony A7ii14:05
viewer|32Hi, I personally really like GIMP, especially with the GMIC plugin. Darktable is something I've just barely started playing with but it looks very promising so far!14:06
NewHunter2575ah ha, thanks for your suggestion, I'll install and try out those apps14:10

Dualitywith wifi19:30
Dualityand iwlwifi19:31
Dualityi installed kubuntu onto my laptop through a usb in the live environment wifi works and dmesg shows iwlwifi working19:31
Dualitybut on the install on my laptop there is no wifi interface and dmesg doesn't mention iwlwifi at all19:31
Dualitytried to install linux-firmware to no avail19:32
Dualityand backport-iwlwifi-dkms19:32
Dualityneither worked19:32
Dualityso i am scratching my head :)19:32
Dualityany help would be really apreciated19:32
diogenes_Duality, dualboot with win?19:33
Dualityno19:33
Dualityused to be but not anymore19:33
diogenes_is secure boot enabled?19:33
Dualitynot sure but previously i had a different distro installed and wifi worked19:33
diogenes_Duality, run: sudo rfkill list19:34
diogenes_what you get there?19:35
Dualitywireless lan: softblocked: no hardblocked no19:36
Dualityi am currently in the usb environment only way to get network19:36
Dualityfor me right now19:37
diogenes_oh so you're on live session19:37
Dualityyes19:38
Dualityin the installed version it showed nothing19:38
diogenes_try to use tethering19:38
Dualityprobably because the firmwares weren't being loaded19:38
diogenes_!tethering19:39
Dualityi tried but kubuntu doesn't recognize my device19:39
Duality(i know what tethering is :)19:39

Dualityand i am back19:42
Dualityrfkill shows nothing19:43
diogenes_lspci -nnk | grep Net -A3 | nc termbin.com 999919:44

Dualitycool trick19:44
Dualityhttps://termbin.com/ky7319:45
Dualitygotta remember that one :)19:45
Dualityit is iwlwifi compatible or else it would work in the live environment :)?19:46
diogenes_i'd advice you a cold reboot, completely shutdown and unplug ac19:48
Dualitywill do19:52
Dualitycold boot had no effect20:02
Dualityeven removed the battery for a while20:02
Dualityand held down the power button20:02
Dualityi think there is something wrong with the kernel module because if i go into the live environment and grep for iwlwifi in dmesg it's there and has loaded firmware20:03
Dualitybut on my install there is no mention of iwlwifi in dmesg20:03
diogenes_ok let's see this: dmesg | grep -i firmware | nc termbin.com 999920:03
Dualityhttps://termbin.com/hgmv20:04
Dualityi also looked at dkms status it says something about backport iwlwifi and has warnings20:05
diogenes_Duality, did you install the system allowing it to update during the installation?20:06
Dualityyes20:06
Dualityhttps://termbin.com/kx4z dkms status output20:06

diogenes_so the thing is20:08
diogenes_the live iso comes with 5.4 after applying updates it changed the kernel to 5.8 which is kinda buggy.20:10
Duality5.8 is buggy?20:10
diogenes_reboot and in grub menu hit advanced and pick 5.420:10
Dualityalright will do :)20:12
DualityI have wifi!20:18
Dualityit's tricky to get in the grub menu though becuase i have a 4K screen and that makes it really slow20:18
Dualityit makes grub slow that is20:18
Dualitybut what do i do now20:19
Dualitybecause if i reboot it'll just go back to that other version and boot without wifi20:19
diogenes_there are many ways to get it automatically boot 5.4.20:19
diogenes_install grub-customizer20:20
Dualitywhat happens if i update in the future? and the kernel gets updated?20:20
diogenes_it will change to the updated kernel.20:22
Dualitythank you so much for your help20:23
DualityI learned a lot too from it20:23
diogenes_you're welcome20:24
Dualityyour amazing :)20:24
diogenes_thanks but i'm average :)20:24
CelestriaHi there. I just switched to kubuntu and for some reason my sound is not working. install is still fresh. In pavucontrol I can see a digital output port being selected and I see the silence bar moving. What I think is that it is outputting to my headphonejack instead of to my speakers. But I cannot choose another port.20:38
diogenes_Celestria, run in terminal: uname -r20:40
diogenes_what you get?20:40
Celestria5.8.0-36-generic20:40
CelestriaIts the 20.10 Image. downloaded today.20:40
diogenes_reboot and on grub menu pick advanced and pick 5.4 and see if you get the sound working.20:41
diogenes_oh wait20:41
diogenes_ls /boot20:42
diogenes_is there 5.4?20:42
CelestriaNo. only the 5.8.0.25/3620:42
CelestriaI came from ubuntu 20.04. there the sound worked20:43
CelestriaWithout any changes from my side.20:43
diogenes_i've heard many complains about 5.8 and right  berofe you there was another guy that had wifi isdues with 5.8.20:44
diogenes_so try to install 5.420:44
CelestriaMove back to kubuntu 20.04?20:45
diogenes_issues*20:45

CelestriaOk Rebooting.21:00
viewer|44Hello, I have a question regarding installing Kubuntu and Nvidia drivers? I booted up the live USB and launched into Kubuntu for the first time to check if it works, and so far I see a graphical glitch on it (20.04 LTS). I plugged in a secondary monitor to my laptop, and it works well with the live Kubuntu USB, but whenever something moves, there21:04
viewer|44is a massive and visible diagonal tear in the middle of the screen whenever an animation happens. It is most noticeable when watching a video. This only happens on the secondary monitor, which is uses the hybrid Nvidia gpu versus the laptop screen which uses integrated graphics. Does this only affect the live usb and will it go away when I install21:04
viewer|44the disto on my machine?21:04
Celestriaseems the kernel I tried to install is not properly signed. I have secure boot enabled :(21:07
diogenes_disable secure boot, it serves for nothing.21:08
CelestriaI have another OS installed which I kinda need21:08
diogenes_but now i gtg so good luck.21:09
Celestriaok. thanks21:09
