[00:43] yeah, don't do it [00:43] it's a mess [13:04] Eickmeyer: you've made a terrible mistake assuming I read the release notes. :-D [14:14] Hi everyone. I'm checking an OS with preempt_RT. From some articles I found Ubuntu Studio. Now I'm trying to understand if it's compatible with NVIDIA drivers since I'm using CUDA 11 application. I tried to recompile the RT patched kernel on myself, but the NVIDIA installer halts when it finds the RT kernel installed. [14:14] Could somebody confirm/deny that Ubuntu Studio works with NVIDIA drivers? Tnks [14:15] indeed it does! [14:16] that's what I'm currently typing from [14:16] Oh cool! Could you share your uname -a and nvidia-smi? [14:17] https://gist.github.com/bhechinger/7a3d2480159e37db57d36ba812150f7d [14:18] Tnks wonko:D  I'm curious how they added it if NVIDIA formally does not support it [14:21] RT and lowlatency are different [14:21] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/RealTimeKernel [14:26] Tnks yes, I'm trying to understand the differences [14:40] lowlatency is realtime with a grard. [14:41] guard [14:41] The kernel gives everything a tiny bit of time every once in a while so the machine can't lock up. [14:42] low latency uses only the the settings in the main kernel and does not patch kernel code [14:42] this is why the nvidia blob will still run with it. [14:43] most of the rt code has been moved into the main kernel by now, so the rt patch has gotten pretty small. It shouldn't be needed. [15:34] Tnks OvenWerks [18:23] is there a way to make geonkick available to Carla? [20:22] It isn't? [20:23] It runs as its own jack application, correct? [20:25] No issues here... [20:25] * Eickmeyer[m] uploaded an image: image.png (128KiB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/LUVkDObPrYjKdaWxVcQQQLvm/image.png > [20:58] so you start it from the cli? it's notnlised in carla or the app menu [20:59] * so you start it from the cli? it's not listed in carla or the app menu [20:59] Nope, I started it from the application menu. [21:00] hmm.. maybe i actually didn't look there. 😅 [21:42] stared myself blind i suppose [21:46] my place being renovated i've had to pack down my studio gear (except the soundcard). Decided I'll do some music with only software. [21:46] humbling experience so far. but very fun! [21:49] i haven't really found any subtractive synthesizer i click with yet. any recommendations?
