InZane84Hello Kubunites! I just installed Kubuntu 20.04 and the installer crashed at the very end as it was downloading updates...I have booted into the new installation and want to determine if my system is in an inconsistent state because of the installer crash. How do I determine this or is there nothing to be worried about? Are their logs that the22:26
InZane84installer writes to?22:26
InZane84there's no /var/log/installer/ ?22:29
InZane84I need help determining if my newly installed system is in an inconsistent state after an installer crash....22:32
InZane84I've booted into it...22:32
InZane84I think it had something to do with "Install 3rd party software..." being checked because I have a Nvidia GTX 960 and would like the proprietary driver package from nvidia. Their control panel is better than the Windows one and displays more metrics....22:36
InZane84is this channel dead or what22:36
DragnslcrYou can either try fetching updates using Discover and see if it gives you any errors, or open a terminal and run "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt upgrade"22:53
InZane84Dragnslcr where are the installer logs kept?22:55
DragnslcrI'm not sure offhand, and I don't have a recent installation to check22:57
DragnslcrIf there's anything saved to the target disk, it might be in /var/log22:58
InZane84there's no such path22:58
InZane84i mean there is but what does the installer write to?22:58
DragnslcrIn general, or specifically a log file?22:59
InZane84specifically. which file does the installer write to or does it even do such23:00
InZane84i'm upgrading and it resumed from where it left off after the installer crashed. i guess i'm good23:01
InZane84i just would like more information on what happened23:01
geniiTry /var/log/apt/history.log23:02
InZane84that lists a multitude of package names but no clear info23:03
InZane84I'm probably good. I believe the base installation finished and it crashed trying to download 3rd party software....23:04
InZane84it had done the grub install and everything...23:05
geniiThere's also /var/log/dpkg.log23:05
InZane84 that lists lines of text such as "status unpacked libmaxminddb0:amd64 1.4.2-0ubuntu1.20.04.1"23:06
InZane84i'm doing an upgrade right now so maybe that file is getting written to now.....?23:07
InZane84upgrade is completing. going to reboot23:11
