nikolamI were copying few larger files (biggest is 2 and something GB, all dozen much smaller) to FAT32-formatted USB flash drive, with copy-paste in Thunar08:16
nikolamBut it like transferred 2.3 GB out of 3.5GB of one file (correction biggest one is around that) and it freezes progress bar, doing nothing to continue..08:17
nikolamAnd it holds like that for 13 minutes or something08:17
nikolamNow when I write this, it has more progress and then freezes again08:17
nikolamDoes that means maybe that Kingston USB flash is lying about transfer speed and have some cache on Flash, it needs to flush and there are waits08:18
nikolamOr/and reporting speed of Thunar is somehow broken08:18
nikolamAnyway, I get large time period, when it seems nothing is going on , progress is frozen and I , surely, go crazy, not knowing when and how copying is going to finish..08:19
nikolamSo  in case of copying to USB flash, progess is useless08:20
nikolamOr copy process doesnt make sure data is really copied to flash and just flushes it to USB to handle or something, or can not make sure to know what is going on.08:21
nikolamI bet there are no such waits on MS windows (except they use that "safe removal" thing before removing USB flash08:21
nikolamAt least some info could be available to user to know what is going on with USB to flash copying operation... and not just freezing with "high speed" transfer info08:22
nikolamAnd now it finished copying all files and closed transfer window08:23
nikolamBut didn't have any report during the process, once it freezed copying that one large file08:23
nikolamUmount is fast, so it surely wait to finish before closing transfer window, but it seems thast displaying of the transfer in Thunar is for large improvement08:24
nikolamgot to go now08:27
scrubI have a question regarding Xubuntu. When will we able to watch video's on Vudu.com via web browser?10:21
diogenes_how is that a Xubuntu question?10:27
scrubI'm using Xubuntu so I figured I'd come here to ask the question?10:28
diogenes_this it a question for the website owner.10:29
scrubThere's no work-around?10:30
guivercscrub, it's likely related to browser string and the web site you're going to (refusing to work when string isn't on a set list of approved strings).. maybe an extension that changes your browser ID string, but that's guess (as only vudu.com will know what they require)10:42
scrubAh. Gotcha10:42
scrubThank you!10:42

Anonamyhi, I recently upgraded Xubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04 and then to 20.04,20:18
AnonamyWhere can I find the settings file for xfce4 desktop ?20:18
Anonamyfor some reason the settings editor doesn't work on the desktop settings (I can't change the wallpapers folder its stuck at (none))20:19
gnrpAnonamy: Not sure, but check out .config/xfce420:21
gnrpdepending on which desktop settings you want to change, e.g., xfce4-panel.xml20:22
gnrpsorry, I mean ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml20:22
gnrpAnonamy: If you are unsure and don't want to invest too much time, it might be worth just moving away the settings and starting with a fresh profile20:22
Anonamygnrp, yes I am doing that I renamed the ~/.config/xfce4 folder to xfce4.bak, just have to reset the conputer now20:23
Anonamyor can I reload XFCE without resetting ?20:23
gnrpAnonamy: Just log out and in again20:24

dabblerdudeI've been having a recurring issue on Xubuntu 20.04 LTS where my desktop freezes up, but I can move my mouse cursor around and can access a TTY.22:16
geniiYou may want to issue the  top command in the terminal you can access to see what's eating up the resources22:18
genii( and use q to exit it)22:18
dabblerdude@qenii So I should go into a TTY and use the top command?22:21
geniidabblerdude: Doing so would inform you of what applications or process are using the most system resources and bogging the machine down to a crawl22:25
geniiAt that point, depending on what the application is, you could choose to kill it, or restart it, or study the problem further22:26
dabblerdudegenii: Thank you for your help. The next time my system freezes up, I will try out that top command.22:30
geniiGlad to assist22:31
