ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> Since myself and others in here that have tried to help have not been able to find out what features are working and what aren't on the f(x)tec Pro X I reached out to the company and they did respond but basically ignored my actual question. They just replied saying UT is a beta OS on their phone, which didn't help me much since I alre00:12
ubptgbotady knew that. So once again, does anyone in here happen to know whats working and whats not on that model? I don't want to place my order until I know.00:12

ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> @Fuseteam [you know what? i'm going to go on a limp and say that the status of the prox is …], you're probably right but I was hoping since the phone designers ported UT themselves for the X with hardware they purchased that assumably had firmware included that they had a better chance of getting every main feature working. Especially02:53
ubptgbotsince they decided to have it as an OS option when ordered.  … Odd they won't say though. If everything works you would think they would want people to see that, and if something doesn't work you would think they would want to avoid the angry consumer that bought it not knowing much about Linux on a smartphone.02:53

ubptgbot<JyotiGomes> Hello!  Are you planning to have Firefox on UT?16:27
ubptgbot<alan_griffiths> @JyotiGomes [Hello!  Are you planning to have Firefox on UT?], That's surely a question for Mozilla16:33
ubptgbot<JyotiGomes> I asked that because Firefox on UT would certainly solve the problem of accessing Google's content16:35
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> im not sure it would really16:36
ubptgbot<Danfro> Not using Google would solve this too. 😉16:36
ubptgbot<Danfro> Someone would need to create a firefox for phones with Ubuntu Touch. Nothing done in an evening.16:37
ubptgbot<Danfro> Mozilla would be the right people to make a Firefox.16:37
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @JyotiGomes [I asked that because Firefox on UT would certainly solve the problem of accessin …], uh the browser isn't the issue perse, its more how google services are accessed outside the browser16:37
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> but as alan says its up to mozilla to support ut16:38
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> theres been a lot of work amongst Pinephoners to make the regular desktop firefox 'work' on phones, but it's not a different build its just the same browser squished down with various tweaks and fixes, but its not Qt based so I don't think it'd run on UT without Libertine or similar would it?16:38
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> either way... even if you did make it work... that doesn't mean that google stuff will suddenly work on UT, because as Tobiyo said its a case of not being able to use google accounts in the actual UT accounts settings, not necessarily in the browser, which presumably would be down to google to fix16:40
ubptgbot<JyotiGomes> I tried to install Firefox by Libertine, but it won't open 😊16:40
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @PiecerEdd [theres been a lot of work amongst Pinephoners to make the regular desktop firefo …], it would, it just needs to ship with the correct dependencies16:40
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @PiecerEdd [theres been a lot of work amongst Pinephoners to make the regular desktop firefo …], [Edit] it would, it just needs to ship with the correct dependencies in the click16:40
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> but gtk probably no longer has a mir backend so that may wait on wayland support16:41
ubptgbot<dohbee> @PiecerEdd [theres been a lot of work amongst Pinephoners to make the regular desktop firefo …], latest firefox does wayland so it should work mostly ok16:45
ubptgbot<alan_griffiths> To get a Wayland-capable Firefox you'll need a 20.04 base.16:46
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> cool16:46
ubptgbot<dohbee> @JyotiGomes [I asked that because Firefox on UT would certainly solve the problem of accessin …], it won't16:47
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> would be interesting either way to have Firefox on UT (with all the kind of tweaks pinephoner's are using to make it touchy), just not sure it'd fix the "google problem" 😆16:47
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> probably won't solve the google problem yeah16:48
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> but that's all post 20.04 music xD16:49
ubptgbot<alan_griffiths> Only Google can fix the "google problem", but there's no reason for them to do it in the foreseeable future.16:49
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> ^^16:57
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> they are even pulling their API from chromium16:58
ubptgbot<dohbee> that has nothing to do with the oauth signin issue though16:59
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> I thought there was a fix for that oauth signin issue? Or was that only for a specific application (dekko maybe?)17:00
ubptgbot<dohbee> yeah, there isn't a real fix for the online accounts login problem17:01
ubptgbot<rogieroudshoorn> i'd say a proper caldav / carddav solution would fix the online accounts problem. it moves the focus from google to the open alternatives17:02
ubptgbot<rogieroudshoorn> but that's me ;)17:02
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> i mean caldav just works17:04
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> carddav i guess needs that but it'll still need the user to migrate from google to open alternatives first17:05

ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> @drym4rch0n [<reply to media>], thats interesting though... didn't their previous device advertise sailfish OS support as well? does that mean that's dropped on the newer one?17:29
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @drym4rch0n [No, but i will], i think the volte issue is the same issue all current ut devices are dealing with, so its likely the same issue with calls (assuming you're in america)17:29
ubptgbot<mateosalta> @drym4rch0n [<reply to media>], ah, it is good they are planing to work on volte17:30
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @PiecerEdd [thats interesting though... didn't their previous device advertise sailfish OS s …], considering sailfish uses ofono, it probably has the same issue with volte17:30
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> oh i didnt mean regarding that issue specifically17:31
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> just like, generally, 'surprised they're not supporting sailfish this time round' 😆17:31
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> i mean they probably are but don't consider it "product-ready" just like ubuntu touch17:32
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> though I imagine if UT is ported then someone will end up porting Sailfish too17:32

ubptgbot<TotalSonic> @JyotiGomes [Hello!  Are you planning to have Firefox on UT?], You can use desktop Firefox 84 via a Libertine container - at least it works with some of my UT devices - although it seems to crash on arm64 devices currently.17:35
ubptgbot<LGeek> @TotalSonic [You can use desktop Firefox 84 via a Libertine container - at least it works wit …], it runs on my OnePlus One, but it is very slow17:39
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @PiecerEdd [its just that they said lineage/android are the only ones but that doesnt mean o …], something like that yeah haha17:41
ubptgbot<Fuseteam> @LGeek [it runs on my OnePlus One, but it is very slow], no hardware accel is the reason iirc17:41
ubptgbot<TotalSonic> @LGeek [it runs on my OnePlus One, but it is very slow], Yup - Libertine does not have any hardware acceleration. On my Meizu Pro 5 on a WiFi connection it runs well enough to be actually usable but Morph is way smoother. On my Volla it crashes immediately.17:42
ubptgbot<LGeek> For my needs Morph is enough, but i like to have alternatives just in case. I'm looking for a Linux Phone to buy, but i need at least 64GB of storage, do you recommend the Volla phone?17:46
ubptgbot<TotalSonic> The one thing I can say that Firefox offers better than Morph is on being anti-tracking - Morph fails on this test from EFF.org,/where as Firefox and Fennec do relatively well, https://coveryourtracks.EFF.org17:46
ubptgbot<dohbee> might want to fix that link :P17:51

ubptgbot<TotalSonic> @LGeek [For my needs Morph is enough, but i like to have alternatives just in case. I'm …], The Volla phone is excellent with UT, but you need to make sure that it will work for phone calls and mobile data with your carrier because it is limited to frequency  bands that are Euro-centric. Right now in USA I can make phone calls with T-m17:58
ubptgbotobile but only get 2g on mobile data, where as on AT&T I  get 4g/LTE, but no phone calls. I flashed the de-Googled Android "Volla OS" as it is likely to work for both calls and data on AT&T,  but I definitely prefer UT by far.17:58

ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> so mine has Android, rooted Android, UBPorts and Debian on the boot selector22:21
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> I guess I could replace the rooted Android with sailfish but there's a problem with that boot option that cuts WiFi off so eh, its a bit useless for anything you actually want to play with22:22
ubptgbot<X YZ> @drym4rch0n [What is this cosmo that can quad boot? ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> @X YZ [Today the first non-dev/beta user (@Schmuel) dual-booted his Vollaphone into UT …], Very cool22:26

ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> @PiecerEdd [maybe ive been shilling it more in the overflow channel, dunno], It looks like a laptop and a flip phone did the hibbity bibbity and that popped out 9 months later. Interesting device.22:28

ubptgbot<Schmuel> @X YZ [Today the first non-dev/beta user (@Schmuel) dual-booted his Vollaphone into UT …], yeah it works well so far! I am very grateful for the work that nift4 and luka have put in to get this up and running!22:29

ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> @PiecerEdd [yepp thats it hehe], When it says Debian Linux OS is it referring to mobian or standard Debian?22:31
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> nahhh its debian debian22:32
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> has a KDE desktop22:32
ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> @PiecerEdd [nahhh its debian debian], Oh wow22:32
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> which admittedly is bloody awful with a touchscreen22:32
ubptgbot<drym4rch0n> Lol22:32
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> and bluetooth doesn't work on the debian boot so there's no mouse 😆 (though the outer display thingy acts as a trackpad in debian, which is handy but not brilliant)22:33
ubptgbot<PiecerEdd> from what ive heard the bluetooth is being worked on by people much smarter than me so hopefully I'll be able to have a normal mouse at some point22:34
ubptgbot<golliath51> @dohbee [you must have UT recovery to get OTA], I ask to @Heng ye if it's possible. Thanks22:52
