RikMillssanta_: looks ok now10:00
cvtsi2sdHello, is there anyone who knows how the 56-kubuntu-noto.conf fontconfig settings file got into kubuntu-settings-desktop in first place? IOW, what problem it was meant to solve?10:01
cvtsi2sdBecause it's causing considerable damage, especially on Firefox10:02
cvtsi2sdsee https://askubuntu.com/q/1289600/208527, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1645681, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1481545, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-settings/+bug/1872800, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-settings/+bug/187249210:03

ubottuMozilla bug 1481545 in Layout: Text and Fonts "Poor kerning of fully hinted fonts on Linux (affects Roboto -> Gmail)" [S2,Reopened]10:03
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1872800 in kubuntu-settings (Ubuntu) "Problem with default monospace font" [Undecided,Confirmed]10:03
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1872492 in kubuntu-settings (Ubuntu) "Setting in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/56-kubuntu-noto.conf causes Arimo font to be rendered weirdly in Firefox" [Undecided,Confirmed]10:03
cvtsi2sdI'm trying to draw attention to the issue, as unfortunately it's the classic problem where it's difficult to find/correlate information, because it isn't immediately obvious that "font rendering glitches in Firefox", "all-around uglyness on many fonts in UI" and "kubuntu-settings-desktop being installed" are immediately related10:05

RikMillsNew spin of 20.04.2 :/10:22
cvtsi2sdhmm, from https://git.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-packagers/kubuntu-packaging/+git/kubuntu-settings/commit/desktop/etc/fonts/conf.avail/56-kubuntu-noto.conf?h=kubuntu_hirsute_archive&id=9ca4c58573bebf3d43634732bf56d06ed1737e48 it looks like RikMills is the man I'm looking for12:07
RikMillssadly no time to look. there are urgent release things at the moment12:16
cvtsi2sdgiven this breaks fonts for the last three releases IMO the prudent thing would be to just stop shipping the file immediately, and then maybe do a more thorough analysis; it's not like the rest of Ubuntu doesn't have fonts working without that file...12:17

mparilloDarin: I paid attention to the restart time on the Encrypted Install, and I guess it was only a few seconds.12:32

BluesKajHowdy folks13:01
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Testing the new spin now.  Live Boot and Entire disk  had no issues. And the long delay to remove media was gone (only 7 second wait).  Testing Manual Part.  next....15:24
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> I just encountered an installer "feature" that I have never noticed before:  The installer defaults to a guided resize  and auto selects a suggested hard drive.  Changing to use entire disk also changes the suggested hard drive.  I was not aware of this "feature" and though I initially verified the correct drive was  selected, I failed to re-verify after selecting the install to full drive. Thus,  I stomped on my Neon16:18
IrcsomeBotTesting/21.04/20.04 drive :(.  ... just a word of warning for others testing on real HW.16:18
