[02:00] Hello room have I come to the right place to ask a Noob Ubuntu question that's probably gonna sound dumb? === __zxq9__ is now known as _zxq9_ [09:51] hi [09:54] hi [10:12] (Photo, 445x67) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/B0MNXXzw/file_41361.jpg [10:12] sigh [10:13] (Video, 2s)https://irc-attachments.kde.org/y4jrrqH5/file_41362.mp4 [10:13] Sad facts of an IRC bridge.. [10:14] yes, people come and exit within seconds. === Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life === lex is now known as Guest91579 [12:56] Howdy folks [13:18] fine ✌️ === dilfridge is now known as undercaffeinated [13:46] Pixel was added by: Pixel === undercaffeinated is now known as dilfridge [14:50] hi [14:50] Hello fellow Kubunters, … since yesterday my Plasma desktop become glitching. Booting is OK, login screen is OK, but after login I get this: [14:53] ... ah sorry it seems I'm restricted from posting the media files as a new user, this make resolving my problem little bit trickier [14:55] @Pixel, weird. I have the permission to send media btw. [14:55] @Pixel, however you can send Imgur link. [15:07] yea it video actually, so I used Dropbox. So the problem is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hv9vliholfhii5r/kubuntu_problem.mp4?dl=0 [15:07] My configuration: Intel Core i7-4770S, Nvidia RTX2060 (nvidia driver 460.32.03) … OS: Linux 5.8.0-41-generic X86_64 (Kubuntu 20.10) [15:08] What I tried: Booting from live CD to rule out HW problem (working OK), creating new user to rule out Plasma config problem (did not help) … I suspect yesterday update as nothing else was changed. This was installed: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zczch58fst65jx9/20210203_143317.jpg?dl=0 [15:09] Thank you for any help :) [16:03] Pixel, are you able to use System settings to change Rendering backend? [16:03] Update: after purging nvidia-driver-460 Plasma works again, after putting drivers back its broken again. Same for nvidia-driver-450. Unfortunately I need proprietary drivers for OptiX. I still dont understand how the drivers could stop working over the night :( [16:06] @DarinMiller, Yes I can boot with Nouveau drivers, then I will be able to access the System settings [16:07] I have a nearly identical setup (460.32.03 and kubuntu 20.10) except a GTX-1080 and have no issues after the update. [16:07] Try setting the toggling the rendering backend to/from xrender and opengl. [16:11] System Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Composting -> Rendering Backend [16:12] @DarinMiller, Thanks for suggestion, switched from OpenGL 2.0 -> XRender, now Im putting back propr. nvidia drivers [16:21] @DarinMiller, It working now, many thanks to you :) [16:23] Total shot in the dark and a band-aid for what appears to be a bad NVidia driver. but glad it worked. You want to try to file a bug, but I have no clue as to the actual problem. Last time I tried to file an NVidia bug, I gave up as I could only find "developer only" options. [16:24] ...I also had to disable compositor on the startup to avoid some weird ghosting under Application laucher (when its animated), but thats no big deal [16:25] @DarinMiller, I would need to find the way to reproduce it on other machines I guess, but I can try [16:30] both NVidia machines I own (1080 and 960M) are running the latest NVidia drivers and Opengl render with no issues. It would be interesting to know if anyone else with 20 series NVidia cards experience the same issue. [16:31] However, I just found this thread and it appears xrender fixes issues for many NVidia owners: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22318322/what-is-the-difference-between-opengl-and-xrender-in-kde-desktop-effects [17:31] HAL2001 was added by: HAL2001 [18:07] @DarinMiller, I can test the RTX2060 with clear Kubuntu instalation on 3 different machines to see how it deals with OpenGL rendering backend and the compositor - if that would be somehow useful :) [18:24] and FOSDEM Online 2021 is a wrap === christian_ is now known as Ishayu === maxim__ is now known as Guest7521 === saige is now known as saigel === Kubunite84 is now known as InZaneGamer84 [19:58] so installed kodi via 'sudo apt-get install kodi' [19:59] started having problems with the application. went to #kodi and was told that "you're using Ubuntu but Kodi from the default repos, which is a flawed edition - add the PPA and install the real thing" [19:59] he then said "because debian is upstream they just pull it in and don't know or care unfortunately" [19:59] either way, this is disturbing [20:04] do you actually use Kubuntu? [20:05] Maik, of course! I'm on it right now [20:05] 20.04 KDE Plasma [20:05] Maik, He said Ubuntu because that's what the crash log reported. some tools report Ubuntu and not Kubuntu [22:07] Including lsb_release: https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2021/02/03/%23kubuntu-devel.html#t02:01
